    Helmet love.

Yes, I actually found a helmet that I love.

Been looking for some time for something that would not cook my head in the summer, would not slide around, where the straps don't rub my ears raw, with no pressure-points, and extended frontal, side and rear coverage. Something that will do double duty commuting.

It's the Specialized Vise. I had been using my road helmet off road, a L.A.S. Istrion, but I am happier off road on the Vise. Just comparing it to the more minimalist L.A.S., it is to me, a better choice off-road. The helmet is 'beefier', thicker, and the front sits lower on the forehead, with more coverage down the sides behind the ears, and lower in back. It really makes me look like a mushroom, but my head is really deep inside this bowl of a helmet- much more so than the L.A.S. But it is still well ventilated, with huge vents that really do a good job; I've ridden in 95f high humidity and my head did not cook. I'm really happy with it. No, I won't win beauty contests with it, and a gram counting racer type would turn up their nose, but I'm not wearing it for looks.

Normally, I hate helmets. I would rather buy a cool new jersey or some good steaks. Helmets just have to work. But it's a pleasure when it works well.

Why would someone want to put their head in a Vise?

I guess they thought it means the helmet fits well but it just sounds like a skull crusher.

My favorite helmet so far is the Specialized Propero. Great fit, feels light, great ventilation. And it's Snell-certified, so I feel a little safer. My husband has been admiring it so much that I think he's going to get one soon, too.

LOL, that has even more interesting connotations!

I'll have to check out the Vice/Vise---in the market for a new helmet.

I had a spiffy helmet that whistled when the wind blew through it. That was the worst!
