Subject to Pentagon approval, we have a Ride 2 Recovery event tentatively slated to occur at NSWC Crane - a naval facility in INDIANA on May 22.
Proceeds benefit injured veterans.
I'm on the leadership committee and I assure you that this event is being planned with military precision!
What will make this different? It's located on the remote facility meaning that there is virtually NO TRAFFIC and WELL PAVED ROADS!
This will be a first year event, so it will likely not be too crowded. It will be full of heavily wooded and beautiful routes of 15, 31, 50, and 65 miles. Lots of hills.
Check google maps for a satellite view of Crane (it's north of Loogootee Indiana...you can't miss it). It's 32 miles southwest of Bloomington - location of Breaking Away, Mellencamp's Small Town, and host to the Hilly Hundred.
Best lodging is available in Washington, Bedford, and Bloomington.
I welcome guests at my condo in Bloomington, but since Silver and I are divorcing, I'd prefer to host more than one guest to avoid any improper appearances.

Mr. S.
Sounds like a great ride. Thanks for the head's up. I'll be sure to tell Brian about it. It would provide a great opportunity for you to meet him.

Hmmmm, it is certainly interesting... That is a big weekend for me, but if I can make it (and I am ready for the hills by then) then I will come!
It's amazing what a difference the 45 miles between you and me makes on hill preparedness!

LOL, especially since I just learned how to ride a bike for the first time in my lifeRight now I am focusing on learning how to shift where hills are concerned - but I have to find some first
Actually Boone County (NW side of Indy) has some nice hills, and there is a rather large one in the park I practice in.
I couldn't find information on that website regarding the May 22 date - I am assuming that they will have something up there soon...
catrin:
Come ride with me and I'll take you here:

Trust me: you don't have hills in Boone County. Get indysteel and we can meet in Martinsville...and we'll take you on a hilly fun ride that will include a brief ride along the stretch Hwy 37 filmed in Breaking Away!
And for the record, when I did RaIN two years ago, it accounted for 5% of my lifetime miles that day! You'll be surprised what you can do!
Also, I understand the Ride2Recovery info should be posted this week.

When I get my Long Haul Trucker in the next couple of weeks and have time to get comfy shifting it (bar end shifters) I would love to meet you and IndySteel around Martinsville some Saturday. I was just down there so I have an idea what kind of hills they have. Boone County can be my hill "nursery" as we certainly do NOT have any in Speedway
Ummm, just not the Boltinghouse Hill![]()
