Red face I think I overtrained

Yesterday I had to throw in the towel.

We hopped on our road bikes to do a nice, long ride and I had to cut it short. All I could do was 12 miles or so and my legs were really fatigued. Prior to this I've been on the mtb doing fun trails and riding on nearby streets. I thought since I wasn't riding hard and fast that I wouldn't have this problem but lately I noticed I was having to go to a lower gear more and more.

I have a deep fatigue in my legs now, I get pooped just walking, my sleep pattern has changed, and I'm moody. I didn't think I would overtrain doing the kind of rides I was doing but I guess I did. Now I'll have to be off the bike for awhile.

I agree Sundial. It sounds like over training. When I get like this my coach makes me take a "black curtain" break. The phrase is taken from a friend of his that trains for RAAM and literally puts black curtains over his windows once a week and tries to sleep about 20 hours in a 24 hour period. What I do is I take the days he's assigned (usually 3 days off when I'm in the state you are in) and during the time I would normally be training, I try to sleep. That means sleeping at least 2 extra hours a day, sometimes 6!! No telephone, no TV, just lying in be and hopefully sleeping.

Even if you don't go to the extreme. You definitely need a break.

Wahine, now I have an excuse to lie in bed. Can I take my laptop with me?

NO. You're supposed to sleep silly. But then again if it means that you rest more than if you didn't take it to bed with you.... I guess it would be OK.

NO! This just means you're lazy and weak! Now get out there and ride till you drop!

Really, spend some quality snug time with your pooches.
