After the thrill of riding on new pavement over the worst half mile of my commute for the past 8 years came the surprise of a flat. Followed by the bigger surprise of my pump failing. As I was inflating the tire I felt something bind in the barrel of the pump, and then let go suddenly. All of the air I had put into the new tube immediately leaked out. I was rather put out to say the least, since the pump is practically new; I got it in January. I think I've used it 4 times (I have a floor pump at home). While I was waiting for my boss to come pick me up, I started trying to take the pump apart. I knew that I had seen replacement parts for various pumps and figured I might as well find what I needed to order. So if you should find yourself in a similar situation: 1) Unfold the foot peg . 2) Using a 4mm hex wrench, remove the metal disc in the plastic base that is exposed when the foot peg is unfolded. 3) Unscrew the black plastic base from the metal barrel. 4) Depress the plunger fully, exposing the "foot" of the plunger. In the Mini Morph, that is a white plastic block with grooves to hold a O-ring. IF YOU ARE VERY LUCKY, THE O-RING MAY HAVE JUST ROLLED OUT OF THE PROPER GROOVE & YOU CAN REPLACE IT. If you are not lucky and it is torn you might try improvising one out of the conveniently holey inner tube you have, or from the rubber bands that always seem to be in my bag from packing spare inner tubes. Reverse procedure to reassemble. If you are lucky, the pump will work again. In my case well enough for me to call boss and tell him he didn't have to come get me, I would be there in 20 minutes.

I had always thought of pumps as being the more reliable inflater, but this morning taught me again that reliability is only relative.

Good lesson. And my old Silca Trak Pump floor pump, which I thought would last a lifetime, isn't so good after 25 years. Now I need to oil the pump gasket for almost every use.

wow, you can order REPLACEMENT PARTS for your road morph? That's the first time i've ever heard of one failing, sorry to hear that.

I love mine too! It's the best purchase I've never had to use yet!

(Fortunately, flats have been very close to home, so I've repaired 'em there, and used the floor pump. But I'm ready, should I need it!
