I am a big proponent of Surly bikes! I will say that after riding 26 inch wheels, 700c seems harsh and unforgiving. And if you're smaller, the bike looks like it fits better and isn't a franken-bike....
I've converted my 1983 Fuji Espree to a single speed. It wasn't cheap, even if you do work yourself. http://i1086.photobucket.com/albums/j453/whiplash-girlchild/Snapbucket/928B8590-orig.jpg
First...
North Face softshell jacket Men's Cut as it's longer and covers more, in my opinion. Chrome Stock Cobra underneath. Balaclava. Good gloves. I have a pair of thick Craft brand gloves that are amazing....
Beautiful find!
LHT's are amazing. As much as I hate to admit it, those grumbly guys at Surly make functional, lovely bicycles. Fenders. Lights. Panniers. Helmet. Brooks B17 special (in my...
Do you start from the top down to avoid an unsightly gap near shift cable? Or go bottom - to the top, and notch the tape to allow the shift cable space and avoid bunching?
Most have said top -...
It's important to note that the Cross-Check's run weird on sizing. Go a size down from the normal size. If you usually ride 48, don't get the 46 it WILL be too big. (Had this happen to a male friend...
"Fatigue is a stochastic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stochastic) process, often showing considerable scatter even in controlled environments.
The greater the applied stress, the shorter the life....
Frame fatigue is supposed to take years. I'm not a metallurgist, so it's just something I've heard about in bike shops and read about online. New bikes probably wouldn't feel stretchy, and in the...
Doesn't titanium fatigue (ie. stretch and become spongy on a microscopic level - affecting power and pedal stroke to energy convergence) like aluminum over time? Steel always seems like a better...
Bwahaha! Surly states on their blog that they're thinking of pouring molten lead into their frames because so many people say they're "heavy". LOL.
I have an LHT. I love it. It's not that heavy....
*beginning of rant*
I don't quite believe there isn't a demand for smaller bikes.
My LBS doesn't stock them either and I've been their patron for over 10 years. Believe me I see tons of small...
You should post an actual photo of the bike being sold, (stock photo, etc.) in the thread. That would probably help. I know if you click on your profile you can view some, but people are lazy....
Built from spare parts? Very nice bike you have there! Great job.
Also, to the other 520 riders I just swapped my rear cassette out on the 520. Anyone else had this done??? I felt like the "steps"...
In my experience,
Brooks B17 specials seem to be made from more supple leather. I have a "Standard" and a couple of "Specials". The specials are noticably "more" comfortable straight out of the...
I am one of the rare people who own both a Trek 520 and a Surly LHT. The 520 is more nimble and the tubing is definitely smaller diameter equaling lighter weight.
The LHT is stouter tubed but...
Wool Socks - Wigwams are good and thick. I've worn them in 20 degree temps and my feet never get cold. Yeah, they're not stylish - but they work. And I can ride my bike longer each year. :D
I wear...
I've lost over 80 lbs. cycling. Ride as often as you can. That's my only advice. Have fun with it. Eat healthy. And have a blast!
The Kona and Cervelo Jerseys fit Large in Men's or Women's? I'm interested if they fit like men's large and what payment method do you prefer? I really need to get a paypal. 9: ) <----cycling cap...
You totally can. Map your route to go around the "biggest hills". Topography maps available on Google maps and such.
You get more torque to the rear wheel on a Single Speed / Fixed. It will make...
Rebecca,
I love your Surly Pacer! So beautiful! Congratulations on all counts!!! :D

Once you build up your core, drop bars shouldn't be a problem. You don't spend most of your time in the drops anyway. :)
Surly is a great company that makes great bikes. Versatile, comfortable,...
Thx for the compliment.
Also, if you get puncture-resistant tires, I finally did after a shred and puncture - 45 mins away from home - don't get Specialized puncture resist tires. They roll slower...
Why do you need a track bike? Source a vintage Fuji frame, there are tons out there and turn it into a fixed-gear. Unless you're doing some very specific riding, I don't know that you'd need one.

Update: After trying yet again on both the front and back (6 tubes total)...my bike shop determined that the tires (lined with kevlar) had too wide a bead and were too thick for that specific rim. ...
