Nope his chain rings really are 50-48-28. It's really difficult for him to make that jump to the smallest chainring when he has run out of low gears on the 48t ring.
I'm going to talk to him...
Thank you all. The encouragement and knowing others have been through this are nice to know. I'm hoping to push through and just have faith that the enjoyment will return. The dreary spring...
I haven't stopped by here for a while. Last summer was full of cycling. I started the spring in the best shape of my life thanks to a rigorous schedule of spin classes over the 2015 winter I was...
I'm try to help out an aging cyclist with upgrades to help with knee issues. One difficulty is with climbing the gearing on the Fuji touring series IV isn't low enough. I thought that switching out...
I went shopping with her the other day at LBS and found a 2014 Jamis Ventura Sport in a 44. She didn't buy it then but was supposed to go back and test ride it. I'll let you know if she did or if...
I'm trying to get a few people started on touring and they often ask how many miles should they be able to do before they start off on a tour. I had read somewhere that if a person could ride 40...
This is the toughest part of the year riding outdoors as much as possible, trying to hit the 3,000 mile mark before the end of the year. Yet hitting spin classes when the temperature are too low,...

Getting back to this project after getting my spring maintenance for my LHT finished. I'll keep in mind buying a new fork but I really hoped to find a used fork since the frame and fork need to be...
I'm wondering how much riding you do to get in shape for a tour. The last few summers I've just done my usual 3 days a week 30-40 miles sneaking in a 50 or 60 mile ride once a week when I get closer...
I've actually never had trouble with dogs yet. I'm from Ohio so I don't think the wind or humidity are that different from what I'm used to dealing with and I've been doing some extra climbing to...
I've only been a member for a few years but I too love this organization.
Thank you Aromig, I'll check it out.

Would these be week long rides or longer? Or maybe I should ask the number of miles each would ride need?
More of the same. I did my own research when the doctor told me I was headed toward becoming diabetic. I spoke to several diabetics about their diets. I used my fitness pal for calorie counting...
I'm working on rebuilding an old KHS Montana/descent into a touring/gravel grinder bike. I have almost everything I need to build it up except this model came with a rigid fork that someone...
I've always wanted to try filming some of my travels. I really enjoy some of the video's on YouTube and Vimeo about peoples biking adventures. I'm not really sure how to get started. I played with...
I'm looking mid to late May or early June.
I've been doing a short, week long tour each summer for the last three summers. Across Ohio twice, 2012 and again in 2013 then rode the C&O and GAP in 2014. This summer I'm thinking of crossing...
Oh my I completely forgot to post my journal! My attention was turned to meeting my mileage goal for the year before we started getting freezing temperatures and our early Ohio snow falls. FYI I...
With the new school year starting and fall right around the corner I'm getting ready for a winter of planning for next summer's bike tour and bike overnights.
This summer I rode the C&O and GAP...
I started this thread last year and didn't ride very far into fall. I think my last out door ride was on thanksgiving. I did a 12 mile family ride. This year we've already had some really cold...
