Plastic thingy for toilet dealy: the miracle of zip ties! You can buy a mondo bag of assorted sizes for pretty cheap. They come in handy for lots of things, and they don't rust or dissolve in water.
Yellow pannier dude: I agree with Trek. Not gay.

Went to the residents' party, got to say nice things about them with a microphone in my hand, enjoyed the shocked looks on colleagues' faces when they saw how nicely I "clean up", and went for ice cream with another midwife and her husband when we realized there was no dessert at this buffet! Shocking. The food was great, though.
Pannier guy is cute, but the "no helmet" is a repulsive force. Maybe next time I see him, I'll say, "What's with the no helmet, dude? A head like that should be protected!" ;)
Meeting sober guy tomorrow. Photo guy emailed me that he's going to call and ask me out. He has yet to do so. I know, if I ended up actually dating two guys at once it would be pretty funny. In my spare time. Love coming here to talk about it though!

Lise, í hope you don't mind me asking this...You mentioned you've been sober for 15yrs (:D ) but why would you be considered recovering??? I have many questions but am not sure what you mind us asking you....

Ready for a ride today!!
Last night: before Memorial Day, I saw suspiscious bird activity in BF's truck. You know, those little square holes on each corner of a pickup truck bed? Well, there were the beginnings of a bird nest. I watched for a while, but didn't see anything else. We took the truck out of town for a few days to go to Wickham Park. he's been driving it, but minimally, since he can drive his squad for almost everything.
So last night, I'm going out to look under a big pot by the shed, for crickets for Fagalo, and I peek my eye into the hole. It is dark. It smells birdy. I don't see anything, and when I pull away to let a little more light in,m whoosh, a wren flies out. Nice. There are three eggs in there. Probably going to hatch soon, if they were laid the end of May/beginning of June...I don't know what to do. I asked on my pigeon rescue list, because a lot of the people on there are "real" all-bird rehabbers. I'm hoping there's a way to gradually relocate into a bird house then up into the tree...Should have kept a better eye on it, and provided real housing.
I have two pigeons, Dillbird, about 12, and Milly, who will be three in July.
One cornsnake, Maisey. Cornsnakes are non-venomous, and are the most commonly kept snake. To keep venomous snakes in Florida, you have to have a license, which requires 1000 hours of handling, and a property inspection among other things. Maisey lives in a 20 long tank, which is beautifully decorated with hollow logs and hollow stones and vines and a water crock. She likes to come out and visit, and watch TV, or go out in the yard, where she leisurely crawls about, or climbs trees. She never attempts to escape or resists being picked up again. She has never hissed or opened her mouth or coiled up to defend herself. She eats two thawed frozen mice every Sunday.
One glass lizard, which is a lizard with no arms or legs, named Baby Russell, or Russell Junior. We used to have Big Russell, but he died, presumeably of old age. He lives in a 10 gallon tank, underground, and we rarely see him. He eats crickets. His crickets eat orange cubes. Sometimes I dig him up if I haven't seen him for several months. Every time I think about releasing him, I see some dead on the road, and he comes out and is very active a few times, so then I decide to keep him. He really isn't handleable- too fragile and panicky.
One eastern box turtle, Fagalo, who lives in a pen outside, with shelters and a pool and a giant pile of grass/hay/Spanish moss called Fagalo's Mountain. He sleeps inside it when it's hot, and climbs on top to observe. He eats slugs, nightcrawlers, crickets, grasshoppers, but no fruits or vegetables. I caught him trying to run across a highway at mile 90 of my first Century, and threw my bike down and screamed we had to stop, and ran out in traffic to stop cars from hitting him. Then I put him in my Camelback and finished the ride.
Two Desert Tortoises, which were released from a vet med research project, and were to be euthanized if homes couldn't be found. I have a permit. They are endangered, and may only be obtained by adopting or from captive hatchlings, but may not be sold. Buttercup and KoKo. Three year olds. They are in a 40 long, but go out to graze every day and are only fed natural grasses and plants. They will be moving outside when I build a large protected pen and burrows.
One gopher tortoise, aobut four years old, living freely in a burrow twenty feet from our back steps. Cracker Chicken. Very wild- not at all pet-like. He appreciates the blackberries and purple flowers that mysteriously appear outside his burrow.
So all low-maintenance pets, except Dill. Sometimes I wonder if BF thinks we have too many animals. But a few days ago I got this e-mail.
"I would have never equipped the home with so many pets.
Every morning I realize that I'm glad you did!

It sure is. And you are sweet for telling us about them. You have a descriptive gift. I feel like I'm walking around the place, looking at them. How did you build the underground space for Russell Jr.? How did you learn about building the habitats for all of the creatures?Quote:

I've been wanting to ask you more about your recovery, too Lise. Thanks for sharing with us. So........... when's the first date??? I say make some sort of comment to pannier guy about the helmet. I agree, though - no helmet, no date.
I hope you all have great rides today! Mr. Fish is at a woodturning meeting all day today, so no riding for me. I think another day will be helpful anyway. My headaches are pretty much gone now. It still feels like there's one lurking, but it's so far in the background that I only feel it every so often. Tomorrow morning - I ride (unless it's raining). It'll be my first ride since the crash and my first ride clipless... This ought to be an adventure! But today - yardwork (if it's not raining), clean, and play with the kids.
Nanci...I too like the descriptions of your animals...I am sitting here wondering if maisey has ever slithered into your shower or some other wierd place...
From what i can tell you would be an owner any anmial would appreciate. Have you ever owned a dog or a cat??? They seem too normal.....

On the news tonight they said the temp last night was the coldest on record in perth...hahahaahhahahha...-.07c...
What's not so great is this time last year we had tons of rain..this year it's been really dry...poor farmers....

CC - I've lived here for 5 years and the coldest temp was 19F (-7C) (probably for about 2 minutes) ;). Our typical winter temps at night are around 32-35F (~0-2C). We had a bunch of frosts and a few freezes this year. Still didn't knock back the mosquitos. We even see them flying around in January and February.
In contrast - our summer highs are 35-40C. The highest I've seen was just over 40C. With the high humidity - that's pretty darned hot!
Right now it's around 30C, but feels like 35C. We're having one of those high humidity days where walk outside and just pour sweat. Riding on days like this is not fun. Lots of hydration needed.

Well..in terms of heat...i've only really had 1 1/2 of a summer here in Perth..It's freakin hot man...max 45c....This summer the max for our region was 38c...no fun biking in...
Up in the northern part of the state it would be around 45c... that's not inland either...:eek:
On the news the temp today for broome was 31c-remember it's winter...
The day after i arrived in perth it went up to 42c...I'd just come from nz where it was 15c...

CC - Wow that's hot! You'd have to ride in the middle of the night in order to not keel over! It's about lunchtime here - 11:40am. The humidity is dropping a bit and the wind has kicked up, making it much nicer out. We're supposed to get rain today, but on the radar it looks like it keeps drying up right before it hits us. We need rain, too. The farmers here use long PVC tubing for irrigation - less evaporation. They've been using them A LOT lately.

I got the black and blue one. I was a little worried- black may have been hot, but the fabric was really wicking and cooling- I never felt sweaty. I enjoyed not having a T-back. I liked being able to move the straps around so I wouldn't get a line. No back pocket, but I never use that anyway. Comfortable bra. A _little_ cleavage, but not like you could see all the way down.
So, before I loved these shorts, I hated three knickers, and kept a fourth pair just because I was tired. Hated six different shorts models, from three manufacturers. Mostly what I didn't like was chamois-related, but the Canari Gels had a cool chamois- the rest of the styling sucked.
Maybe when I am ambitious, I will take a picture of all chamois in my collection together- perfect Sugoi, perfect Trashy Cat, bunchy LG, and quilty Primal.
Cool Nanci! I'm glad you finally found some shorts! I love the tank. I'm surprised you didn't get hot in black. Your heat is at least as bad as what we have here and I can't imagine wearing black. Good wicking goes a long way. Now all I need is to squeeze some money out and I can try some new shorts. I guess is I love my saddle in the lousy shorts, just imagine how happy I'll be with good ones!
