Bike instead of BART

So I'm watching the news and looking out my window for the plume of white smoke from the BART administration building that says a tentative contract has been found.

Meanwhile if they do not reach a contract I forsee gridlock in the Bay Area :( I'm considering my options for a 20+ mile ride to and from work. :confused: anyone else?

About once a week I ride the 2 miles from home to BART then take the train in. I've never done the whole dang route (not that I couldn't),

I'm a union member myself but cheese and rice what a way to get me back in shape :confused:

Thom is going to end up taking his motorcycle all the way into the city if there is a strike. I'm not thrilled about that. The traffic on the Bay Bridge always seems a bit hairy to me.

Maybe they'll let him work from home a bit more. :D

Veronica- I too hope that Thom won't have to commute to SF on the motorcycle. The Bay Bridge can be pretty scary in commute hour traffic.

Let's hope the BART folks on both sides come to an agreement soon.

I have a route from Casa Trek420 to Oakland... does require a sprint through East Oakland gang territory (up International) but that early in the morning it'd probably be trouble free.

Going home might be interesting though :eek:

Thanks Nancy. Right now he rides the motorcycle to Walnut Creek or Pleasant Hill. I can't remember which and takes BART from there. It's nice because I know exactly how long his commute should take and when to start dinner. Unlike with a car... commute time is so unpredictable. He takes the car on days where the predicted temperature is over 100. It's just no fun to be on the bike when it's that hot.

Yeah, that's pretty direct and flat. I could easily get to International and straight through to Downtown Oaktown. Pack the sword in the backpack ;)

Or .... industrial area of Hayweird to the Regional Shoreline Park, take the trail to San Leandro Marina :D and from there ... I dunno what to do from there. :confused:

Sit on the wharf and call in sick? Oh, it's so pretty, I just did this nice ride :p

Or take the high road! Castro Valley up and over Redwood .... :eek: If I managed to do that by the time I got to work just prop me up at my desk and feed me.

And repeat on the way home? :eek:

If our dogs got along I'd ask to park on your couch :rolleyes:

I have lots of vacation time left, I'd hate to use it up for this.

As of 11:15am, Friday, July 31, BART management and unions have reached tentative agreement on labor contracts. A strike is no longer anticipated. BART continues operating regular train service. For more information, go to bart.gov.

Now if I can just get even a tentative contract :rolleyes:

Well, now the BART contract goes to the members for a vote today. If it's a no vote ..... we may have to dust off our route maps to work.

The good news is where I work we gots ourselves a tentative contract. :)

And it's a "no" vote. Here we go again :confused: I'm a proud union member but there's gotta be a better way for them to negotiate. :rolleyes:

Just heard on the news that a tentative contract has been reached. Yeahhhhh!! This is a relief for oh so many reasons including the estimated commute being a half hour to an hour longer for me.
