Sebaceous Cyst- Looks like I got one

So, all this riding in hot weather for hours sort of "paid off" and favored me with a nice sebaceous cyst right on my inner thigh in next to you know that area....I read online that they don't have to be treated by doctore unless they are painful. Well, mine was especially first two days. Days when I am off the bike it's fine and I almost don't feel it unless I press on it. Days when I am on the bike it puffs up and hurts a little more. I have century coming up on aug 27th and I am def. not going to remove it before that, but after if it's not gone by itself I am GOING!!!
I know some of you had same thing, please share your experience!!!

They can get quite large. They don't necessarily have to be "gotten rid of" but generally have to be drained. It might be that if you went to the doc before it got too bad, you could get on some antibiotics and take care of it before it gets worse!

I am definately going to check it out soon, untill then i will do my best to keep it from getting worse. This is such a bummer, and it's in most uncomfortable place for riding

fresh... had one in the SAME place... identical to what you're going thru. Don't ride and it's flat and almost seems to disappear... ride and it puffs up like an acorn and HURTS! :mad: Mine was "chronically infected" which is what is happening when it puffs up due to riding... my doc said they will not go away on their own... sent me to a surgeon (and I got lucky cause he and his staff ALL ride!!!) who said, yep, gotta take it out...

My stitches come out tomorrow. Pretty minor procedure... local anesthetic to numb it... cut it out, sew it up and you're on your way. You'll be off the bike for about 2 weeks...

mine had gotten to the point that it ruptured on every ride and hurt like the ****ens. Draining it did not remove the cyst itself... so the minute you ride again, it gets infected again. I am SO glad it's gone and look forward to riding without pain again... next week! :D Hope this info helps and I sympathize...

:( :( :( Thank you for sympathy, I do really need it since I just recovered from a really bad ingrown hair and chafing. I guess I am making an appoitment pretty soon, it's so unfortunate that it's right before my first century. I am not sure if it will rapture on it's own because I don't see any channel for it to drain by itself. I read online the same thing you said, that draining them will not help unless doctore removes the cell wall that contains the fluid. Two weeks of the bike? Geez I don't even bike that much to afford to miss so much! Ohh well what else can we do right? So do you have scar from it?

You can try heat packing it and see if the warm, moist heat will cause it to open and drain.

I have a line of raised tissue from what I can feel... when I bend in half to try to look, it doesn't look like anything really... hard to tell when I'm danged near upside down tho:D

I was sure mine was an infected hair initially, so I kept letting it go... for about 7 months. Yep, since right around the new year. :rolleyes: That may be why mine finally started rupturing.

I saw one "specialist" who said there is nothing they can do for me, and to stop riding my bike. Fat chance... called my regular doc (who referred me) and she said that was a load of cr@p and gave me a different referral. That's how I ended up with a doc and nurses who have ridden several centuries! :D He looked at it, assured me it's fairly common and no big deal and the next week it was gone, baby gone! :D I may try a short ride tomorrow... stitches came out yesterday and it's only mildly tender now... its only been 8 days, so not too bad! :) Good luck with it...

Too funny! I'm visualizing you standing with your head between your legs. Have you considered using a hand mirror to examine yourself?

I had a bad saddle sore last winter. Don't know if it was just a "boil" or what, but it took months to go away. Moist heat helped a lot---Everytime after I showered, I'd put a steaming hot wash cloth on it. Hot as you can stand. Then, dry it off, put hydrogen peroxide and then, neosporin on it. It finally went away.

How about, if you really can't stay off the bike, but put some moleskin around it, like you do a blister on the foot, and cushion it a little bit? Anyone ever tried that? I know it's in a sensitive place with lots of bending, but it might work with a little ingenuity.

Thankfully I have not had one, so I cannot offer any help other than to say I am thinking good thoughts and hoping some of the remedies the other woman have listed will help alleivate the pain so you ride well until you are able to see a doctor.

Thank you lots! Will try to put hot wash cloth today. Went for a ride today and was actually able to adjust on the saddle so that I am not sitting directly on the cyst. But once it has some pressure it;s a big OUCH i must tell you :(

You probably want to get it checked to make sure it isn't a bartholins cyst. Those can be a little trickier to get rid of.

My gynocologist gave me some bactroban 2% ointment to apply to my golf ball sized lump in my region..worked like a charm...in 4-5 days it was gone and riding was pleasant again..

Shelly, is that OTC cream or you can only get it by prescription?

velogirl? A hand mirror??? Now that just makes entirely too much sense. :p I swear I almost fell over first time I tried to look... never thought of just using a mirror. :rolleyes: :D
