unbelievably, last night we heard some noises out back and today I discovered his beautiful Davidson custom bike was stolen from our garage. Seattle folks, Portland folks, this is a bike with a whole lot of chrome, a Sella An atomica saddle, and so so much more..
We are heartsick over this one.

Oh Mimi, that is unfathomable. I hope Katrina is returned to you and Donald soon. There will be a lot of people keeping their eyes peeled, scouring Craigslist and all, of that I am sure.
Mimi, I hope you don't mind but this is from FB, another photo of the bike. We're riding tonight after work and this weekend. We will keep our eye peeled.
Hope you find it! It is very distinctive - it will be hard for someone to get rid of without someone else recognizing it!

Wow; that just totally sucks. I'm terribly sorry. I sure hope someone is able to spot and recover it. Shame on the person who stole it.

yes, we filed a police report AND homeowners insurance... and called 3 bike shops, the two nearby, and the place that made the bike...
and I just sent a letter to the two closest local blogs to see if one of them will put up pictures of the bike for me.

But if the person is not familiar with bikes they could at least try to bring it in and they should know to watch for it. If we go by Counterbalance tomorrow I'll ask them to watch out.Quote:

This is terrible Mimi. Have you posted in Craigslist? I see that type of announcement (stolen bike) on occasion.
It's a good idea to post that to Craigs but when my bike was stolen (much less valuable than Don's) I thought "if I post an alert the thief will avoid Craigs and sell elsewhere; Flea market, Pawn Shop ... I'll never get the chance to spot the ad."Quote:

What low behaviour. Hopefully they will be picked up as soon as they try selling it. If you can post any blog links that do cover the story, I will happily link to them from my facebook/blog - I have a few fb friends in Seattle who I'm sure would keep an eye open.

They have zero sympathy or tolerance for bike thieves. :mad: The wrench I spoke to said he did not think it will turn up at their shop because these scumbags know to avoid the higher end shops. Bike Works and
Recycled Cycles (both locations).
If I remember correctly from when I was searching for my own stolen bike, you can do a sitewide search of Craigslist, instead of searching individual cities, by typing "site:Craigslist.org/bik Davidson" into your search engine.
I did it just now and it seemed to turn up results from all over. No Katrina, however.
I'm hoping she finds her way home somehow, and soon.
I think we need to be searching for more than Davidson.
Chrome Road Bike, Black Commuter bike, etc.
I just did a boatload of searches of all the Washington State Craigslist sites.

I can't imagine that it would be a problem. Whether to post a stolen bike alert to Craigs is a close call, and their decision. Otherwise, I think asking folks to keep an eye out should be OK.Quote:
