How do you keep sweat out of your eyes?

My head loves to sweat. Like a dog that cools itself by panting, my head cools itself by sending cascading waterfalls of sweat from the top of my head. :rolleyes:

I bought a Sweat Gutr and it didn't keep it out of my eyes. It just dripped underneath the darn thing, around it, and over the top. ;)

I wore a modern day sweat band (not the 70's jogging kind) and that didn't really help either.

HELP! I thought about a skull cap like this one here at TE:

but don't want to waste more money if it doesn't really work.

Does anyone have any ideas/tips/things that work for you?

Maybe I should try rubbing antiperspirant on my forehead. :eek: LOL

I have the same problem... I use the Halo brand sweat band, specifically the one that ties. It has a yellow rubber strip on the interior side that keeps the sweat from my eyes. I like the tie version because I have control over how tight I like it be against my forehead...for comfort reasons and optimizing the function. Here's a pic. I found my at REI, about $12 or so.

Try skull caps from Crown Wear. They are actually hat liners. They are made in Phoenix, extremely light, and come in sizes that actually fit small women's heads. Not very much money, either.

Someone on another thread mentioned applying lip balm over their eyes to keep sweat out of them. I was going to try this last weekend but forgot...maybe next ride...

I"ve done the lip balm thing and it definitely helps. Especially when coupled with a band. I picked up some Bondi Bands at the last race expo I was at. I LOVE THEM. You can use the coupon code ONE for but 3 get one free or FIVE for five headbands for $25.

Skull caps, FTW! Ever since I cut my hair short, sweat just gushes off of my nearly-bare head and onto my face. It's pretty gross... A wicking skull cap under my helmet really does make a difference.

Now, if only I could figure out how to wear a head band at the gym and not look like Rambo :o

thanks for all the info. I will definitely try the lip balm tomorrow on my ride to see if that helps, and will see if I can find a halo headband or a wicking skull cap in town. I'm going on a week-long bike tour on Saturday so need something in a pinch. I like the bondi bands and the skull caps from crown wear and will look into those when I return.

I'm doing a cross-state tour of my own state (Oklahoma). It's a supported tour, although I haven't decided if I'm going self-contained or letting the truck haul all my gear...
We travel south to north (presumably letting the southerly winds push us, although of the last 3 years, there have been plenty of days with headwinds).

I sweat like crazy in my head and face. These work the best of any sweatband I've tried. Much better than a scull cap too.

I think I must clamp my helmet on so tight (even more so since my crash) that it acts as a sweat band. I sweat like a pig lol. It only runs in my eyes when I slow down and stop. Then the sunblock runs in my contacts. Omg ouch. Idk... just keep riding... and faster (so sweat rolls back). Good Luck w your search!

I use a bandana.Fold it into a triangle, then fold the long side over two or three times to give it bulk and add more fabric to absorb the sweat. my Bandana act as a poor man's skull cap.

The downside with my bandana is that I need to go one size larger on my helmet.

My problem is most headbands give me headaches. I can't take much compression on my skull. :p The thing is so light that when I bought it, I didn't know if it was going to do any good, but it sure does. It isn't an issue for me on the bike, between the helmet, evaporation, and the wind pushing sweat back towards my ears - but it sure is running, and that headband is great.

I have the same issue with headbands causing headaches and falling off. But the Bondi Bands are light and they stay on. These have been really great.

It took a while to come up with something that works for me. I tried the chapstick trick, but it was a no-go.

Depending on the weather, I use a headsweats type of cap. If it's really hot I use a coolmax classic. That way I can soak it in cold water before I leave (and on my ride). Otherwise I use their topless band which soaks up the sweat as it's running down my forehead.

Oh duh, I just looked at it again and it definitely is a Bondi Band. The printing is so faint I missed it before. Highly recommended.

I have a Sweat-Gutr and one of the Halo hadbands, but cannot for the life of me figure out where I put them at the end of last summer. What's been working the past couple of weeks has been a regular cycling cap, reversed "gangsta-style" and pulled tight, with the helmet over that...

I am surprised that no one mentioned Buffs yet http://www.buffwear.com/pages/house-of-buff.php. I bought a couple, cut them in half, and use as a headband when it's warmer and a head covering when cooler. Fits very nicely under the helmet, keeps my medium length hair in check, makes me look ok when I take off my helmet, keeps sunblock out of my eyes (because I wear the Buff pulled to just over my eyebrows and don't need sunscreen on the forehead), and ... keeps sweat out of my eyes. :)

You know what? I just got back from two bike shops, and neither of them had the halo band or a coolmax skull cap. I took my buff, cut off about 4 inches and will try that on my ride. Why didn't I think of that before?
