Any interest in getting together for a holiday lunch some weekend between now and the end of the year?
Date and location tbd...suggestions welcome.
We're going to be in DC the 18th - 22nd, taking a red eye out on my birthday.
Veronica
MDHillSlug and I are running in a race on the 18th.
Maybe the 19th??
Would be nice to meet you , Veronica.
Yeah, I saw you guys were running a race in another thread. Dorky me tried to figure out if I could do the race too, but then realized it was day we're arriving. :o
Veronica
I'd love to get together for lunch and meet Veronica, as well. I should be good any time after Thanksgiving, will be staying in the area for the holidays.
We'll be carless, so someplace easy to metro to and not too hard to find please.
We're staying in Georgetown and Thom's been talking about not even using the metro, but walking everywhere instead. When we leave DC we're heading to Maine to visit family and there are so many things that I love to eat that you can only get back east. And of course they are so bad for you. :D
Veronica
I haven't figured out what I'm doing that far in advance, but will come if I can. if a Sunday morning, china garden in Rosslyn does a good dim sum, of course - DB's a vegan, so I'm not sure how that works out!
What kind of back east food are you interested in Veronica?
There is a citybikes program, so you & your husband might be able to use that to get around a bit - Georgetown doesn't have a metro station, so you'd be doing a lot of walking anyways.
December 19 may be possible!
Here's a suggestion for a place to eat: Two Amys Neopolitan Pizzeria. They have fantastic pizza. Closest Metro Station is Tenleytown-AU. It is an approximately 15 minute walk from the station to Macomb St. NW.

Don't know how this fits into the vegan diet, though.
I'm interested and the weekends don't look too full until Christmas. Would be nice to meet Veronica. :)
Tempted.... I have to be here the 1st 2 w/e of Dec, and will be in DC for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. Do I really want to go there 2 w/e in a row? Hmmm.
I will probably bring my bike for Thanksgiving. Anyone want to do ride on Fri or Sat after TG in DC area? Away from the shoppers?
Martha
I'd love to join you all but I can't do pizza. Have a great time!!
That's right, Two Amys Pizzeria was just a suggestion. I'm open to any type of food just as long as it'll bring in the most TE'rs for a get together.
Instead of a meal, why not just get together for coffee/tea or something like that?
I thought 2 Amys was a pretty good choice. Pizza has general appeal - you can go all veggie or all meat, or some combination. They have salads on the menu as well. Plus they are in my guide book. I figure if out the bizillion places to eat in DC, they made it into my guide book, they must be doing something right.
Veronica
A meal vs. coffee, gives us more time to linger, to meet new folks and get re-acquainted with the TE-DC "regulars," and not feel too rushed out. It is always nice to be able to put faces and names to the screen names and avatars (I, for instance, bear no resemblance to a dragonfly!).
Did a search on Georgetown area restaurants and results are here.
Veronica - check them out...see what appeals to you and what's convenient to you. We can get a head count and then a reservation....
Oh, 2 Amy's is great! I do recall that it is a bit loud, though. There is a lounge across the street--Zebra Lounge, I believe. That might be quieter. Disclaimer: I haven't been in that area for a few years, so I'm just assuming that the Zebra is still open.
The problem with Georgetown is that there are no Metro stations.
But you all know this already. Enjoy your get-together!
Actually, I got the area wrong. We're staying at the River's Inn which is Foggy Bottom I guess.
On that list - Georgetown Cupcake! :D That just jumped right out at me. I just came from a trainer session. I'm trying to lose a few more pounds of body fat and I've really cleaned up my diet the last few weeks. But I've got a wicked sweet tooth...
Veronica
You can walk there from the Foggy Bottom or Rosslyn metros. The River Inn is about a block from where I lived when I first moved to DC, and I used to walk to my job in Georgetown (near Wisconsin and K) in about 15 minutes.
Veronica, for the best advice on restaurants in DC, check out Tom Sietsema's reviews and live chats on washingtonpost.com. He does like Two Amy's. He just came out with his latest annual dining guide.
I totally look like my avatar. I probably won't wear the bike helmet and tri outfit to lunch though.
Veronica
Sometimes I look like my avatar. Other times, I'm going downhill.
Don't try to plan anything around me -- I'm still working on figuring out what foods make me itch and what foods make my tummy hurt, so after you pick something I'll check the menu to see if I can work something out.
Oh! Oh! I'd like to join you, too! I enjoyed last year's lunch a lot; it was nice to meet folks and yak and listen and eat.
You'll be in line all day if you go there. IMO, Baked N Wired (on Thomas Jefferson, also in Georgetown) has much better cupcakes (and other baked goods), great coffee, and much shorter lines! These are not vegan, though. You'd need to go to Sticky Fingers in Columbia Heights/U St. for that.
I saw the other day that a Sprinkles is also moving in in Georgetown. DC is having cupcake overload!
I'm not sure what my weekends are like, but if you're gonna be hanging out in FB or Gtown, I'm sure my bike and I will be around--will try to stop by!
FYI, we always have a herd of people and bikes taking over Dean & Deluca on the weekends in Georgetown. But the coffee isn't so great, IMO. Only vegan things I can think of there might be their veggie sushi.
I'm just seeing this thread now--I don't know how I missed it before!
I'd love to join you all too (and I'm thinking we should do a mini get-together at the race on the 18th. How many of us are doing that?), although I need to talk to my family and figure out our December weekend plans. Right now, though, the 19th is free as far as I know. And I'm fine with any kind of food, coffee, or cupcake.
And I look a lot like my avatar, only with frizzy hair. And my bike isn't yellow. And I'm quite a bit older. OK, I don't really look anything like my avatar.
Sarah
Okay, time for some real planning. I count 15 people who have expressed interest. Even for a group half that size, we would need to make a reservation somewhere.
So, for lunch on Sunday, December 19, who is in?
Location will be someplace in DC.
Count me in for lunch on Sunday, December 19th. Location to be determined.
Put me down for 2 people.
