a Bike Friday or Dahon.

a Bike Friday or Dahon.
between 3 different brands of touring bike: Marinoni Turisimo, Soma Saga or Surly LHT
My next bike is going to be a 2006 Giant Anthem -- she gets to come home when I'm finished paying for her. Then I'm supposed to be done with getting bikes... (*whistles while ignoring the 3 mixtes in various states of disassembly around the house...* Anything I pick up for less than $100 doesn't count, right?) I'd love to get a Bike Friday as well, though. But I might end up putting couplers in one of my bikes instead.
A purple Luna Eclipse :D:D:D
Hi Zen, I've got both, actually two BFs (a New World Tourist and a Pocket Rocket) and a Jetstream Dahon. The Dahon has the quickest and most compact fold but I wouldn't ride it more than 15 miles (that's my model, though). Dahon has higher end bikes that are very nice, however. The Bike Fridays are custom built (should you opt for that) and can mirror your road bike in reach and height, etc. Whenever I fold my BFs the chain comes off, so I need to always carry a rag with me. You can get a chain stay added to the bike to keep it on during the fold, though. Mt. Airy Bikes has a great selection. Got my BF NWT from Bikes at Vienna.
A midweight tourer - more as a grocery getter, but would like the option for an occasional short solo tour. Haven't really done any serious shopping for one yet, but would like to find a handbuilt frame that fits without shelling out for full custom. From what I've seen of complete bikes, I'll have to build one up just to get drop bars and brifters.
An inexpensive cruiser with an internal hub and basket for quick trips to the store, etc. I can't bring myself to lock up my nice commuter outside, and stripping all of the lights, panniers, etc. when I do leave it somewhere gets tedious.
OR
A singlespeed/fixed gear for quick trips to the store. I have a frame that I could build up....I just need to devote some time to it.
A custom touring bike, lugged steel with exquisitely painted lugs, a Brooks saddle and bars that are in just the right place.
Karen
I've been thinking the same thing...a nice sturdy bike for errands and commuting and have been lurking around garage sales to see if I could snag someone's old steel frame beat up 10spd to make over.
But in an ideal world (one without the spectre of bike theft, etc...) and if money were no object my next bike would be one of these
I'd name it "Murph" :)
Surly Long Haul Trucker
But one day when I have to replace my Look 595...the brands that interest me are Look, Time, Merckx, Pinarello. BMC, Ridley, and Wilier are nice too though. Maybe not on the same level...but I sorta like Kestrel too.
So...I guess I really don't know! lol
Yeah, if money were no object, including paying a boy to wash and wax it once a week. Lugs on the stem = cute and only a couple extra minutes with the toothbrush. Logos stamped inside the fork: "hmmm, let's see how much more difficult we can make it to clean an area that's already an enormous PITA to clean."
Either a touring bike with drop bars and brifters (I don't like change) or a Bike Friday that has the above. I don't care about lugs, color, decals,, etc. etc. I just want a bike that will fit me and I am comfortable doing short tours on.
I imagine that I will be getting a new road bike in 3-4 years. A bit more relaxed geometry. It doesn't have to be custom. In fact, it will probably cost less than the bike I have now.
And the wind whispers "Jamis Aurora, Jamis Aurora"
Red.
A unicycle! Had one as a kid, I think I'd like to try one again.
Aurora Elite is on the list for sure. But there are enough parts I'm pretty sure I'd need to swap out for fit reasons - and I really don't want to go any wider than 700x28 - that I just don't know.
It's long term anyway and a lot closer to fantasy than shopping. ;) If I happened across a shop that had a 47 cm or 50 cm Aurora in stock I'd definitely take a test spin - but that's no place near me.
Since I am selling my LHT which is my trusted commuter and general 'around towner', I am looking at this: http://www.feltbicycles.com/USA/2010.../CURBSIDE.aspx until I can save up for a Luna :D Note: I live in a flat town and wouldn't ride it as a fixie, but as a single speed...
Zen, I thought that whisper was for me!
It just so happens that the shop that sells Jamis' (where I bought my Coda) is the only one that I have ever liked and felt positive about.
On the other hand, Seven is headquartered right near here...
7, will you send me a cutting from your money tree? I have been trying to find one of those for years... of course, if it isn't bearing fruit yet... :D
Something red or with red on it. I like red. :)
A sparkly red custom built mixte with stainless steel lugs, set up for touring and commuting. Two sets of handlebars (drop with brifters and albatross with bar end shifters) with quick disconnects for the cables. S&S couplers. Sweet wheels.
Fast.
Lighter, more aggressive & dressed in Sram (probably). :)
...a long time coming.
I need to pay for a new heat pump and lots of home improvements first.
I have a taste of a princess but a budget of a pauper. meh :(
I've always dreamed of a Colnago with Record.
for now I'm satisfied with my K2 Mod6. It does the job...
Bikes I long for... Colnago (did I say that already?), Litespeed Ultimate or Saber (neither in production any more), Ridley Excalibur was it??? Orbea, BH (also from Spain), Merlin, Look, and just to be decadent maybe a Prince... Also interested in Griffen Kompressor Triton (anyone here ride Griffen??)
K2 Mod6 frame <$500.00 can't beat that. though my groupo cost a lot more and so did the wheels...
far as a type of bike.
MTB-- I don't trust myself with it so nada.
Beach cruiser-- I'm like... like, so not with it...
single speed-- not a poser trying to look like a hip fixie rider on a freewheel
fixie-- I don't care to go round and round on a oval track on a wooden surface. my dogs can do that.
Fred bike-- I'm a bit of a slave to bike fashion. a bit of bike snob if you will.
recumbant-- I like to see far ahead. Vantage point is just too close to ground. Besides, I'm already height challenged and short. Don't need to make it worse. If there were cool looking periscope glasses... oh never mind.
unicycle-- too uncordinated.
I like a road bike. a one trick pony.
A bike Friday (I already have the specs. for custom-made. I visited the factory when on vacation) or Brompton.
I can't imagine a beach cruiser...sounds too hard of a ride where we live.

This one.
If only it fit.
in my fantasies:
A top end Specialized Tarmac
A Blue Triad
do I have to choose only one?
My next BIKES are as follows (in no particular order):
Trek Belleville (the new steel mixte)
Trek District
Surly LHT
I'm actually pretty happy with my 2 road frames - I would definitely like to bling 'em out with dura ace or sram red componetry and get them some fancy fancy wheels...
I'm also pretty happy with my mountain bike, I'd like to get it a new fork...
My commuter bike's pretty good, I'd like it to have a slacker seat tube angle - so I should maybe see if I can get it a larger setback on the seatpost maybe.
But were I to replace the surly/commuter bike - something with a 73 degree seat angle would be good - rawlands sogn, a rivendell, or something like that... probably something I wouldn't want to chain up & commute on. Something that could double as a touring bike.
I can see the advantages of a bike friday or a brompton - but don't actually need one at this point.
I'd like either a Cervelo R3 or RS....can't decide which one would be best for me.....
