A little silver lining to my day. :p

Yipppee!
I have always thought...how come there are those women w/ round, squarish bodies but very toned legs. And knowing (not judging--because it is people I know or know about) but knowing these women dont' run or bike or exercise. They just genetically have these nice legs. And I have the tree trunks from hell!
But maybe these big ole thighs will pay in the long run!:D
Yes, RESULT, it is good to have Thunder Thighs! Yippee!
Clock
That's me, unfortunately! My thighs seem absolutely huge to me right now--after all the running and swimming and biking I've been doing they really bulked up. I just measured them. 21.5 inches. And in spite of all the exercise I still have about ten extra pounds of flab around my stomach. I'm doomed.

Judging from our past TE threads (with photos) about "Thunder thighs", I'd venture to guess that 90% of the women here on TE who claim they have 'thunder thighs' really just have normal thighs.
Why do we allow media/advertising pictures of emaciated fashion models to taint our perception of what normal is?
;) A favorite.
I *wish* I had bigger thighs and less around the middle. I'm one of those unfortunate apple shapes... no matter how much I exercise, my arms and legs get smaller and my gut stays the same...:mad:
I see it from a different viewpoint. In my opinion, the 'fact' at work here is not so much that our thighs are abnormally huge, but that most clothing manufacturers seem to cater more to young slender women in their late teens and their 20's with slender (or no) hips, and slender thighs. They buy clothes more frequently than any other age group.
Truly not much out there for women with muscular thighs, calves, OR wide hips, unless you go to a specialized source, often sport-oriented. When I try on off-the-rack clothes that fit my thighs or hips, often the item is just too large overall and has a gigantic waist. I have settled for wearing stretch leggings/capris/tights with and without skirts.
Which is devastating when you are a young, slender girl with a low body fat - but for which all pants make you feel FAT because you are not shaped like 'normal'.
I don't think age has anything to do with it. In fact, as I get older, I find that my shape is changing towards 'normal' as I put on more weight in my middle to even it all out! :p
When I image-google "thunder thighs', there seems to be a huge range of what people think of as thunder thighs. They include grossly obese, just chubby, lean but muscular sporty, non-muscular 'normal', normal thighs with some cellulite showing, and even a bunch that I would label as downright slender. The interesting pattern seems to be that the thinner ones are labeling themselves as thunder thighs, whereas the heavier ones are being labeled as thunder thighs by others.
Sheesh.
Honestly, this girl did more for my self-esteem as a teenager than any compliments ever could have....

If it's any help to anyone, I've found that Lucky brand jeans tend to fit me well, and I've got muscular thighs (and butt) that are "out of proportion" () to my waist.
I'm a big fan of Lucky Brand too! Not only do they fit my thighs, the waist is high enough that I don't give everyone behind me a sideways smile when I sit. (But not so high that I look like Ed Grimley)
Yes! Best news I've heard lately.
If you're not lucky with the Lucky's, try men's jeans. I have given up completely on women's jeans because I have to go up a size to fit my thighs and then I end up with a gappy waist and droopy drawers butt. But men's jeans seem to be bigger in the thighs and for some reason, they fit my butt too. My current favorites are men's Gap loose fit.
I like my thighs.
That is all.
I want to get that "hanging quads" look. *raar*

-- gnat! (and I'll give up the designer jeans to get 'em!)
Read this in Dr. Mirken's e-zine. LOVE IT! I am one of those who have had big (aka STRONG :p) thighs no matter what my weight. I've always seen women with NO BUTT.... I figured that some is genetic, and some is that they've never used that butt for anything athletic. Even when I was little I found stronger legs and butts more appealing. Good thing since I grew up to have them!
I second the Lucky Jeans -- found easily at Costco & comfy! Also, I went to Nordstrom and tried on about 30 different pair (you all know those days!) -- they had a several that fit my thighs decently, but many were quite expensive. I settled on one pair that fit excellently, and were on sale for $90. Sounded like way too much for jeans, but considering that I do not have any others that are "nicer" jeans, I will use them a lot, so will be worth it in the long run.
GNAT: BTW: EXCELLENT PHOTO!
They have Lucky Jeans at Costco?!? I, too, find that these jeans have a great fit for my thunder thighs. :)
I'll have to tell DH the news regarding thinner thighs. He's already worried about our little girl inheriting mommy's thunder thighs (granted, she's only 12 wks so she's SUPPOSED to have that fat!).
And yet, when Tonya Harding did her little piece of vicious stupidity, all anyone could talk about was the size of her thighs. Not her thug-ness or her association with thugs, not the shocking extreme of unsportswomanship, just the size of her thighs. As though she must have been evil, with thighs like those.
Good point about not criticizing in front of her. I never even thought about that.
Unfortunately, I know my thighs are NOT beautiful at this point (but nothing getting back on the bike won't fix! As soon as I figure out how to squeeze that back into my life.) :) As a whole, I am confident enough about myself to feel beautiful...but I'm not really in shape at this point in my life. I've probably gained about 30lbs in the 3 yrs since I've met my husband.
I think he has an obsession with body image because his mother (and father) has lots of health problems related to weight issues. He equates being overweight with not caring about yourself.
At this point, his comments about our daughter are mostly in jest (I think). As a first time dad, a lot is new to him. It doesn't help that his best friend's baby (who was born 4 weeks before ours) is like 15th percentile in weight, so our baby at 50th percentile (which I keep reminding him of) seems huge in comparison.
