Emeryville to Richmond on Sunday

Well, after being rained out Thursday night, we're going to try the "first-annual-TE-low-impact-EZ-flat-ride-to-eat-ride" again on Sunday.

So far it's trek420 and me. Anyone else want to come?

We're planning to meet at 9:45 am Sunday at the Chevy's overflow parking lot in Emeryville and ride to Richmond Marina and back (~25 flat, probably windy miles) along the SF Bay Trail.

I'd be happy to host a little lunch-type thingy afterwards to provide for the "...-to-eat" portion of the event. I live in Oakland near the 24/13 interchange - showers available if needed!

There is a little map below of where the parking is, and here's a description:

Take the Powell St exit off 80 and head towards Chevy's via the frontage road. Carry on past Chevy's and straight through a round-about, then turn right into a parking lot across from an office building. The lot is generally pretty empty on weekend so we should be pretty easy to spot.

Fingers crossed that this crazy June rain will have passed on by!

Does the Bay Trail go out to Pt Richmond or Pinole -- somewhere to make it about a 40 mile ride?

I think it does go out there somehow, but I'm not sure where to go from the Richmond marina... I turn around at the Lucretia Edwards park, just past the Salute restaurant and bar, where the sidewalk literally ends and head back.

I'll check the bay trail site and see if there is any info...

The Bay trail website has a good detailed map - are you familar with that area?

Am I right that 40 miles would be longer than your usual ride? We could do the 25 with an option to go further, or do the 25 and meet back up at the end or, split off to two groups at that point or...either's fine with me and I'm sure 25 flat miles'd be fine.

Trek - you're right - my max distance to date is 38 miles. I usually ride between 25 and 30 along that route, and I get the extra miles beyond 25 by doubling back and repeating sections I am particularly fond of. When I do 20-25, I try to focus on keeping a good average speed, my heart rate up, etc.

I really do want to get into 40+ distances, preferably flat, and hopefully not by having to repeat 20-25 mile rides (that was my initial posting here the other day).

Sunday is all about exercise, fun, and meeting some new people for me, but I don't want to limit any one else's exercise or fun. I'm sure we can be very flexible, depending on who comes, how far we all want to ride, and so on. Optional extrensions, add-ons, etc. sound fine -- my only worry (because I am very insecure - totally chicken, actually - about hills) is that heading off my little beaten track might get me into some hills before I feel ready for them. But I gotta do it one day, and maybe Sunday's the day! And maybe there are no hills between Richmond and Pinole... everything past the end of my current route is terra incognita to me.

Anyone else know that area?

no worries, on one hand 40 miles is just 2 off your PB on the other hand an old hiking adage is "slowest person leads", no one gets left behind.

I ride for fun, to see a new part of the Bay Trail. Any time on a bike and with cyclists is fine by me.

Here's another (updated?) map of the area. I'm not familiar with the area, and I don't understand what the "incomplete" trails might be -- are they rideable or dead ends?

but we found each other and rode together, perfect weather, delightful company, got to try that little roadside open air cafe I've seen from the road many times, great views, we had a good ride.

No pics! Live sightings only! Although a video of the "new gal" tipping over onto the sidewalk from a standstill would have provided plenty of laughs for all! When, oh when, will I learn to only clip in while moving?

New Gal's tipover was really quite poised, I'd give her a 9.

It was a very select group :rolleyes:, just Trek, New-Gal and me, with no event photography. We had perfect weather and great bay views -- it's a scenic course and good for a fun/recovery type of ride.

New-Gal may be ready for Diablo soon, though. She powers up those hills (well, bumps really) purty darn quick.

French judge gave her a 8.2, Russian judge gave a 10, Norwegian judge gave 9 for creativity.

She showed all the required skills, we throw out the high and low scores. Even without the triple jump she's in the lead right now but wait folks for the short program.

Magpie has told me that she wants to meet Waldo which may call for a Diablo ride. Not sure how early she's willing to get up as maybe, just maybe, summer temps may be upon us.

You learn so much on this forum - style points, I never knew - I was just falling down any old way! Mabe it's time to work some variety into my spills - perhaps I have been relying too heavily on my falls to the left, but I guess I do tend to lean in that direction :D

I don't know about the Mt. Diablo thing you guys have going - it sounds HOT! I think I'll keep working on my Old Tunnel Rd loop here in the Oakland-Berkeley fog belt (starting tomorrow am) and try to get up it with fewer stops each time - maybe when I can do it without stopping I'll be ready for Mt Diablo (will it be winter by then?)

I'm busy this Sunday, next is July 4th holiday (Happy 4th to all). Stuck hereabouts because of cat-sitting for a friend. I'd be open to riding a hill or sumthin' then, anyone?

I'd LOVE to do a ride on the 4th! I'd be more than happy to try to host another reservoirs loop... but not too much hillage there. Mainly rollers. We could easily do 40 - 50 miles, though. (I'll have to work hard in the next few weeks to work up to that!!) Or I still have never done the Woodside loop. That would be fun!
