It's a typical pattern. Once it gets really cold, activity seems to pick up...particularly in non-cycling.
I'm just extremely busy. This is a 7 day work week for me. We have a very large Fall sale at our shop for ski/snowboard season kickoff.
I also have been doing a local elementary school bike safety program all week. Another co-worker and myself have been discussing bicycle/helmet safety for about 425 elementary students. Monday/Tuesday was an in class session with today being a bike rodeo. Luckily for me, tomorrow's bike rodeo is postponed to next Wednesday due to the strong threat of thunderstorms.
I don't really get to sleep in, but I don't have to be at work until 2pm. I get to chill in the am!! Yea I am looking forward to that!
Yes, and it's not full-on "Wool Weenie" season yet, which takes on an entertaining life of it's own! but here in coastal California, we really don't have an off season for riding unless it rains hard or there is a bad fire. Today was sunny ,dry and 83 degrees:D. I still love to check in at TE every night. Tokie
I am addicted to TE!! I have met so many nice people on here! I haven’t been posting much lately because I was just in an art show - getting stuff ready for that, and I have an art/talent show coming up in which I will be showing some of my work as well as playing my guitar - so practice music, paint, mat pics, etc. in addition to my full time night job. And I still sqeeze in a 20+ mile ride on my bike every other day. So I have been very busy! And I am still trying to read back through the older posts on TE and learning as much as I can about cycling. I remember living in colder climates and in the winter I would hike as much as I could - anything to be outside in the fresh air - even if it is colder. And I always have my trusty old “dreadmill” for rainy/cold days that I do not wish to get the bike outside.
I'm desperately trying to squeeze in as much as I can of my favourite outdoor activities before the weather turns nasty, and trying to spend less time doing non-essential stuff, like TE - and work ;)
I guess it's up to the southern hemisphere contingent to create more posts..;)
On the motorcycle forums we call it "PMS" - parked motorcycle syndrome. Post traffic goes up and people's dispositions get crankier.
We need a less sexist and more apropos acronym here!
I can talk to you about Texas all winter. Today we are freezing after a cold front, low hovering around 50 and the high will be a blustery 72! :p Would you like me to come whine about the low of 35-40 and high of 55 in the true winter? ;)
There is no off season in Texas, I just have been doing non-cycling pursuits.
Mr Silver, i'd be happy to tell you about our lovely yet odd weather here in Western Australia.
Oh, can I also mention I take my doggie to a really cool beach :p year round. When it's cool outside, she still wants me to venture into the water with her  It's not that cold..really..
I'm so happy I get to enjoy summer this year. Last year..:( ahgghghg
I have no heat, and so my fingers are often too cold to type! The heating guy is coming tomorrow to install the new heat pump. Whoopee!
Due to the recent decline in "posts" I felt the need to post!
My reason for lack of posting is....well less stuff that I read I feel I can reply to or add to ...thus the lack of posting makes me post less.
The other reason...I seem to "view" TE at work. AND I am TRYING hard NOT to get on TE at work and to really get my work done. I actually do a great job multitasking...but my boss and workplace would probably frown on this!
Weather her in FL is awesome. One of the best times of the year. I have "spring fever" and WISH I was not working and could be outside being active. And I will be....this weekend.:D
My first thought after reading BleekerStGirls post (about food and emotional stuff) was snowshoeing...But I see Grog beat me to it. I txt'd my biking partner this morning that I wished it would hurry up and snow so I could snowshoe just once...i'm starting to have some withdrawal from that...sorry this is sort of a thread hijack...:) It was too chilly to bike today...even though the sun is out, its 50 but breezy. I would go out if it wasn't for that darned breeze...
Jiffer,
There's actually a very simple explanation for the decline in posts:
I have been posting more often, and I'm a known thread killer. Sorry 'bout that. ;)
- Melissa
I want to try this snowshoeing or cross country skiing stuff one day. Don't think it will happen unless I decide to take a winter vacation. :p It looks kind of interesting though. I will just be watching leaves die but not in a glorious way and waiting for toobing weather to come back in April. ;)
Tell me about it- I have staked out some beautiful rolling fields and trails for snowshoeing this winter- but last winter we only had one deep snowfall! The rest were too wimpy for shoeing. I have to prove to my husband that it was worth it buying us snowshoes! :(
Pffffttt!!!!! It was 40 and sunny and quite WINDY today... and I had the most WONDERFUL brisk 10 mile ride this morning! golden and red leaves flying through the air.... :p 'Too chilly' is more like 20F, not 50! All you need is a bowl of hot oatmeal and some proper clothes, girl! ;)Quote:

Alternatively, we could have lively discussions about riding in our trainers.... ;) :D
Oh my gosh surely we aren't out of questions! I am mountain biking all weekend, I am sure I can come up with something. I will think of something stupid and bike related soon.
BTW- the health issues area is booming. Maybe we are all banged up or ill? That is kind of sad.
It hasn't gotten cold enough yet for everyone to start complaining. We are just in a lull waiting to whine. :p:p
I really like snowshoeing, but I have to drive somewhere to do it. I can ride my bike from my house, although the county road commission is "fixing" roads before the onslaught of winter. They've ruined almost all the roads we like to ride on.
Oh yeah, I have had a pretty nasty cold, but I've found that all the cold medicine I've been taking has had a performance enhancing effect. I'm an animal!:D
'SNORT!! You didn't do a very good job here! :p
I haven't been posting, or riding, much. Given the state of the economy I should be grateful, and I suppose I am, but I am CRAZY BUSY right now. It is insane. New mediation cases coming in (yay!) and I just got roped into a landslide case with a January 5 trial date. I'm essentially self employed: What I earn is based on how much I work. This will be a good year. (Hope to dig myself out of the hole of the last few years... )
50 degree high, wind and rain the last two days. Been to the gym to start lifting weights again. Tried the new trainer and it SUCKS (still waiting for the spinervals dvd to arrive). Spinning doesn't start for another 3 weeks. Ski season hasn't started yet. Virtual biking is all I've got for now! Where are all the people who live where's it's warm?!
Well, I haven't posted much so that's why. ;)
Hey BleekerStGirl, I do have the proper clothes, believe me...I could supply a biking family I have so much clothing! (and I do ride in the winter providing the roads are ice free!) I sorta used that as an excuse. I hemmed all day about riding..and regretted it by 5pm. I did however get the last of the flower beds tended to, and all the planting containers taken care of, and got the last of all the outside stuff done before winter. SO all wasn't lost by not riding, but I used that breeze-ok wind-as an excuse. It made me ease my guilt of not being out on the bike, feeling the breeze in my face...;)
I make a lot of bizarre typos....fallout from brain surgery.
I couldn't type a coherent sentence for about a year after surgery. The thoughts were there but what came out was very strange.
For example, if I wanted to type, "The bird landed on the fence," what would come out of my fingers would be, "The baby laughed on the fryer." The brain cells were a little mixed up and tried to compensate for my very fast touch typing by throwing out anything close.
Funny thing is that the left brain stuff came out just fine on paper. "I could accurately do work at the lab and write, "One clear plastic bag containing a white powder substance that tested positive for Cocaine."
Every once in a while now a very strange word will creep into my typing and I often don't catch it on re-reading. But I'm healthy, happy, cancer-free (it was a benign tumor), and so I can settle for odd words now and then. It adds a little splice.....er...splatter....er spice.
The boyfriend chose our latest dog. He chose a German Shorthaired Pointer. GSPs wreck the house when they get bored. And I started a session of guitar lessons again. Between dog exercising and practice, there goes my computer time.
Well gardening is just as valid as biking in my book- it definitely counts!
I took a beautiful cool biking day off recently to clean up my tomato patch for winter. :p Cleaning up gardens is way easier in the dry fall than in the wet spring with the ground half frozen.
Hi Gang - I have not posted much at all (even through the summer) because I was, 1. having a really tough time emotionally; 2. alone and a newlywed and 3. extremely busy with work. The easiest thing to do was to check the boards and log in only if I felt the desire to post. Otherwise, I kinda kept to myself.
Life is better now (though I hope it will be much better in the next few weeks) and I may surface more often in the coming weeks. We'll see....
My lack of posting has nothing to do with the change in the weather; instead, it has everything to do with the chaos in my life. Believe me, this group of women is the most wonderful in the world. I have met two of my closest friends right here on TE. I will keep checking and will post as often as possible.
My best to everyone and please - keep posting! I love reading what you have to say and every now and then I will comment.
OOOOXXXX -jane
BF and I are going to keep cycling! Yay for So Cal weather. But maybe we'll even buy a trainer. We'll see.
I haven't been posting because I started work and moved to a new place. Been very busy and i'm often too tired at the end of the day to post.
I enjoy scanning the latest posts, but a move, new job and broken toe has almost put my riding to a halt. With the colder weather upon us I'll mostly be exercising indoors if my foot ever gets better.
I love reading the tour and ride accounts during the winter so keep them coming you gals in the warm climates.
I could whine about the @!!* insane training I've been doing....:D
