RR...we swam in poo...
Or the primordial swamp, I am not sure. But is was icky!!!!!!!!
This was my second road triathlon, it was another sprint. I had a great day, despite the poo swim. The "lake" was so small, it was really a pond. Every exposed inch of skin came out covered in a layer of black ooze that hardened to a crust after the bike. Thanksfully they had a shower for us after. People that swam without a wetsuit ruined their trisuits. It was gross.
The stats:
1/4 mile swim in 6:17
15 mile bike 45 mins ( 20 mph avg)
3.1 mile run 28 mins
Overall 1: 22
1st in age group, 15th woman overall
I am most excited about the bike, I felt like so many people were passing me. I was thrilled to see that I was riding that fast. It was flat, so that helped tons.
My run felt slow, but it was really hot and people were walking, so even though I felt slow, I am still pleased I got it done.
My girlfriend brought her three daughters to watch the race so I had a support group. It was nice.
Off for a recovery mt bike ride today if such a thing exists.

Great job R&R! But... YUK!
-
eww
Icky RnrG..! Good job and congrats on the good results!
Your ickly water reminds me of swimming in the Swan River here in Perth...ewwww
-
ewwww...
that's why you swam so fast, I bet. The fear of the swamp monster obviously held over to the bike... wow!
Did you manage cleaning off your wetsuit? Hope the gunk doesn't stick.
-
Good job!
You've had a tetnus shot within the last 9 years, i hope. ;)
-
Thanks guys......
I did get the "ick" off the wetsuit, and I had a tetnus in 2005 when I was attacked by a cat while running. No, I am not kidding........
-
Great job!!!
I'm pretty impressed by that swim time, awesome!! :D
And I'm also curious what the crud was in that swamp/lake. Sounds iffy.
-
Good Work!!
I've swam in "lakes" like that. I think you deserve bonus points for swimming so fast in what was obviously a very dense form of liquid which would make it even harder to swim.
-
*meeeep*
apparently the viscosity of the liquid does not matter:

Goo, poo, it is all the same..............ick...........
-
Ick! :(
At least you smoked it on the bike! Nice job out there!!! :D
-
I was thinking about your description of the pond on my swim today. So glad I was not swimming in goo. :D
Those are some awesome times. Are you planning on a permanent defection to roadie tris? :D

Curious where this was... did an open water swim in Jersey and came out looking like I was several shades darker. Yuck. Glad it didn't affect your race!
-
V,
I am currently enjoying my race schedule. I am racing for a sponsored mt bike team and doing the road tri's between mt bike races. In fact I had different long term plans for next summer, but I am having so much fun with this schedule, I might just do it again next year.
I think I might an olympic distance race to the schedule for next year. I already know I can do this distance. I did it off road at xterra nationals, but I would like to see how fast I can do an olympic which would require some training.
The nice thing is, that all of these sprint races are close to home. Within an hour. I am so sick of driving 300 miles each way to race.
So a partial defection to the world of roadies.....If you all will have me:)

With times like that we'd be PROUD to have ya! Course you'll kick our butts, but we'd still take ya! That looks like a great job. Way to go. Despite the slime, primordial goo. UGh. That is disgusting.
I rowed a crew race in a "lake" like that once... it was a waterfowl protection site outside of Vancouver, BC (Burnaby?). And all the goo had to have been goose and duck poop. The docks were covered with it and the water brown/green. The open four dumped their boat somehow -- ohh... what a nightmare. No showers, either! They all got to sit alone, together, on the way home.
-
Great job, RNR! Speedy, indeed. :D That goo, OMG  - I have a new appreciation for our local lakes!
-
Awesome job out there!! I can't imagine swimming through that junk. I might not have gotten in
-
That swim sounds disgusting. Are you sure you didn't crawl across the top of it? Yuck. Those are some excellent times. I'm glad I'm not in your age group. ;)
-
Yuck!! I hope nobody gets sick... Reminds me of a couple of summer swim meets in icky ponds, including one where I was swimming backstroke and sharing the lane with a turtle! However, your swim sounds far worse than those meets were.
