*sings* Fat Girl in Little Shorts!

Well half of my bike clothes got here today, the half with my helmet anyway. Not sure where the other one is, hope it gets here tomorrow or I own one jersey, one pair of shorts and some socks.

I was super excited, but a bit concerned holding up those itty bitty shorts. Now I'm sure the rest of you would have used your break to go in the bathroom and try everything on, right? My coworkers think I'm weird, whatever.

Much to my delight, it fits. A little more snugly than before, but we're working on that. I geared up at home and did a little "turn in circles, bring knees toward chest, poke fingers in the air" dance around the living room singing "fat girl in little shorts." The roommates were amused.

So I rode the mighty steel turd down to the grocery store to buy my bus pass (how Boulder of me). Unfortunately I was offered company and in the interest of being polite accepted. I really wanted, "us time" with the steel turd, but oh well.

It went okay, I still shift like a drunk with those down tubes. Brakes work though, suppose that's good. I realized I cannot function without being clipped into my pedals. Seriously, how do you get the damn pedal up to push off on your chocolate foot without them?

She is dreamy smooth steel goodness though. Oh! And I met an ally at of all places Performance who supports the rebuild!!! The stem must go, in a hurry. It's a quill I think? The kind that actually seems to fit over the steerer tube? Yeah and it's uphill and I feel like, I need to be lower. That stem belongs on a townie.

Oh, and I had my first Lexus driving beyotch today. I got in the left turn lane, like a good girl, checked, signaled, moved. Stayed to the right of the turn lane so I could get right back in the bike lane and here is Lexus Lady to my right with her left turn signal blinking. Surely, she just left it on. I look back at her she flails her arms and makes a sour face. There is no double left, but her Lexus SUV apparently entitles her. Fortunately she waited until we got through the intersection, but I could not believe she made a freegin illegal turn and even thought about putting two cyclists at risk because she failed to get into the lane she needed. Ahhh, tis only the beginning.

I have a lugged quill stem on my road bike. It's very pretty.

You get the pedal up balancing on one foot and pushing the pedal up with the other.

To get your non-clipless pedal in the up position while standing at a stop, just put your toe under the pedal and pull it up (rotating the crank backwards of course)

Okay for the record I know how to get my pedal up, it's just so stinking hard when you've rocked clipless pedals long enough.

Anyway, we went grocery getting tonight and I still love my beasty. Sure my outfit is usually worth more and yeah I probably don't need lycra to run to the grocery store, but I love the ritual. My shoes are nowhere to be found so I miss the clicky clicky around the store but oh well.

I got home just in time too because it's dumping rain, again. Oh well. I brought the beasty inside and told her "You're a tiger, baby, raaaaar!" but she just sat there while I took pics. No comments on seat post location it's freegin stuck there right now and I physically abuse my ta-tas in the drops.

But there is something very charming about something that looks non-descript or ugly but still works well. Everything is a bonus! Our car is like that. So blah I walk past it in the parking lot, but it works, and works and works.

Oh well, I'm sitting here looking at the Krylon website and they make tractor paint! Yeah! You see where this is going. John Deere Green *is* classic, but I'm more of a New Holland Blue or International Harvester Red kind of girl.

OK, so she hasn't seen much TLC in a long, long time, clearly, but LOOK at those sweet, curvy lugs. I don't know much about the history of the brand (except for its slide into discount store ignominy) or this particular model, but a look at the frame suggests that this bike is worthy of your love and attention. That's no tractor there, it a graceful dolphin you've got. I wouldn't touch a thing- it's gorgeous. :) :) :)
I would just give it a tuneup and maybe new cables and brake pads to be safer.

My friend's BF found the same bike on the side of the road, in bright hot pink! It's not been as lovingly cared for as your sweet ride, though. He was talking about fixing it up, but alas, it's rusting away in the shed, not touched for the past year. He should have left it for someone cool to find.

Okay, okay, okay buuuuut. Here's the thing. It's neglected steel. In Colorado where it snows and they put evil stuff on the snow that eats steel. So if I get it all apart to paint it I can tidy up any developing rust, shoot it full of frame saver even though it's an after thought, and make her pretty again. I think I can find a color scheme true to her late 80s early 90s roots. I'd like to do something two tone and really highlight her lugs.

I highly a doubt a DIY paint job will look that amazing, but I think it will be fun, and parts are way more important than spending $150 plus for paint.

I just thought the tractor colors would be fun since as it stands right now I'm a country girl lost in the city. I have a friend who works at a sign shop and I could get vinyl lettering to make it a New Holland, or International Harvester, etc. I just figure at her advanced age that she's still plugging along like many old tractors I know.

You mean a tractor like this? (that's my boy, hugging his John Deere after it pulled him 50 miles.)

ZOMG! Yes! The only problem is those are also OR Ducks colors and I'm a Beaver Believer and could get disowned from my "chosen family" for that! I did find pink bar tape locally so she may end up black with pink lugs. Sexy, sexy. Still on a post meeting mister Gary Fisher high, don't mind me.
