I just wanted to let you know that my children are convinced that your avatar is an actual picture of you. :D:D
I have done my best to convince them otherwise, but, what more can I do??

You kids are right
You should see me carrying the accordion on the package rack :D
Having met our dear Zen I will vouch for her! ;)
Is that (the accordion) one of the many things you learned from Elvis? ;)
Where in the world did you find that picture? That's someones mother or grandmother. I smell schnitzel.
Hagbel, no doubt about it :p
hmmmm..... my grandmother's sister was called Hazel... and they both played accordians.....
cue "twilight zone" music
:p:cool::rolleyes:
My g'mothers were Nellie and Mildred, but neither played the accordion. So sad.
My grandma was Mabel Eloise. Both of which she hated. No accordions, but she was a regular knitting machine. A lot more hair than Zen appears to have - lot of curly, thick, extremely wild & unruly hair. Everybody called her Buffy, which, apparently, was short for buffalo, due to the hair.
Wow - I miss her!
No Gertrude's out there? :D
I think Ettamea, Opal, or Genola could be possibilities.
On my mother's side - Edna. And she was angry that I wasn't named after her.
Both my Granny and my mother were named Mildred.
No wonder my mom went by her middle name.
My grandmothers' names: Rita Bertha and Zelma Ethel
WONDERFUL women whose names I did not pass on to my daughters.
These are all names from a certain era.
I wonder what they'll be saying about Britney , Chloe, Sienna and the like 75 years from now?
My paternal grandmother was Agneta.
My sister who just turned 22 today is named Agnes. She's learned to love it. . I think. ;)
my grandmothers were thelma and iola. my mom had an aunt ophie and thats what i think of when i see zen's avatar. no squeeze box that i know of . . . i cant see my little sunday school kindy-gardners - brooklyn, madison, jordan, morgan, sidney, chloe, alexia et al - as grammas!!
The funny thing is, we're laughing at the names of people two or three generations older or younger than we are. We're not thinking about how our/our friends' great-grandchildren are going to be laughing at names like Marie, Laura, Susan or Wendy  No, we have classic names that are perpetually in fashion and no one will ever find them laughable. ;)
+1 Oak.
My southern grandmother's name was Dora Ethel. My Irish grandma's was Helen Iona. My mom's is Helen Betty.
Helen IS a classic name, though.
Mine is Karen Ann. I always wanted to be called Ann, and spell with the E at the end. :-/
Karen
I had a great g'ma named Birdie. Never seen that anywhere else.
To the best of my knowledge, she did not play the accordian.
Was that her given name, or a nickname?
Most of my older relatives have nicknames that are used everyday...
I had an Aunt Dodo. Her name was Josephine, but a cousin tried to say "JoJo", but it came out "DoDo" and it stuck.
Same thing with an Aunt DeeDee. Her name was Angela, "Angie" became "DeeDee".
Then...my dad had cousins Foots and Scars (he was Oscanio - Italian version of Oscar, I think.) No idea where Foots came from!.
My grandma's name was Ester. She said if anyone in our family was named after her she would come back to haunt them! that is how much she did not like her name. So when my sister was born after she passed away my mom wanted to give her my grandma's name but instead they stuck an E. in there. So her name is Camerin Leslie E. Bayless. She has not said anything about hauntings so maybe grandma approved?
Birdie was her real name.
My middle name is Anne and when I asked my mother why, assuming it was after her mother who was named Anna but called Annie, she told me it was from Anne of Green Gables, her favorite book as a child. In that book, the character refers to herself as "Anne, Ann with an E". So my friends often called me that, saying my middle name was Anne, Ann with an E. Long middle name.
My mother was named Edna. God rest her soul it was gladly a name that died with her in my family. :) I joke that when I go to heaven and meet her mother my first comment will be - what were you thinking? (Mum's sister was named Muriel, that just adds to my intrigue). My grandmothers were Annie and Bridget, both very fine names I would have been happy to carry on. Just not Edna. ;)
Has anyone SEEN the actual ole' lady who plays accordian in RL??
(I for one LOVE reading your little ditty's! Just like a one liner comedian!!) :D
My grandmothers were Peg and Martha. Not quite your Ednas and Mildreds, but oldies nonetheless. Oddly, after we grandkids were born, Martha wanted us to call her Bambi, and we did.
Btw, Zen, I love your avatar. To me it means you - you add a lot of personality to TE :).
My grandma is Pansy Lorreen. My mother Pansy Jean. My great-grandmother Pansy Ellen. Oddly my great-grandma hated her name and went by Ellen. It was one thing she could remember in the late stages of Alzheimers, she would curse anyone in the home calling her Pansy.
The doctor that delivered me also delivered my mother and asked if I would be Pansy the fourth. My mother so eloquently replied "Hell no." :p
I also have aunts Buela and Bernis (Aunt Bun).
Zen's avatar makes me laugh, she doesn't look like a Pansy though.
Grace and Nellie here for g'ma's
(& I got Grace as my middle name, which was horrible thru school...but now that Grace is having a come back ....I like it!) :)
Wow...more proof that my S/O is younger than I am....his Gma's name is JANET!!!!
IMDeanna- My father's mother's name is Joan Janet. She always has gone by Janet. She is 76, my mom's mother is 90. Hard to believe my grandmas are a complete generation apart but my parents are only 2 years apart in age.
Pansy Lorreen.
That's a very southern-sounding name.
I like it!
My grandmothers -
Berniece
LaRae
Rosie
Christine
and on hubby's side
Vera
Alma
Janet
I suppose it could be worse:
My Paternal grandmother was stuck with Pina Letitca . She liked it so much, her tombstone reads "Lucille D. L.":)
My Maternal Grandmother got off easier in the name with Aileen
K... so I chimed in near the start of this with my grandmother's sister, Hazel, both of whom played accordians...
Well my beloved Nana's name was Grace. My third name is Grace, and my daughter's third name is Grace. I'm sorry you didn't like it, Deanna, but Grace was almost my most favourite of my three "first" names.
She is very southern/southwestern. Born in Arizona, proud graduate of Llano (TX) high school, second in a class of 8! She and my Pawpaw lived in a tent when they first got married. Still does the NY Times Crossword in pen without mistakes.
Feisty old lady, I hope to be just like her. She will whack my cousins (grown) with her wooden cane if they are being disrespectful. Doesn't hurt them, just teaches the boys to be nicer. :D
I had a step-great-grandmother named Grace. In retrospect I really didn't like her very much though.
