Anybody else who will never..........

Is there anybody else on the site who will never change their bike, probably not.

I love my bike and do not want another one, it's probably 10 years old and it belonged to my son's girlfriend who never used it.

My son lent it to me, as I wanted to see if I could ride a bike...........8 years on and 8000 miles later, still riding. I know most of you guys ride far more than that but for me it's amazing.

Anyway, my BF has just replaced practically everything, new wheels, upgraded to a 9 speed cassette, new mechs front and rear, new pod levers, bottom bracket all Shimano Deore LX.

I rode it today properly for the first time............wow, sh*t of a shovel, fantastic, I am so pleased with the result and of course, I still have my beloved ORANGE Clockwork bike.

some years ago, I felt a strong attachment to my Trek bike but my husband insisted i needed a better bike and got me a new one. Since I still felt it was a very important bike, I mailed it 3000 miles away to my cousin, who wanted to ride and whose husband didn't think she needed a better bike than the wrong-sized man's bike that she had tried riding.

I think it's wonderful that your bike has been renewed and that you love it. That's what's important!

Great bike! I'm definitely beginning to feel the same way about my current bike, now that I've got it all "customized."

The one bike I wish I still had was the first bike I ever bought for myself with my own money -- and the bike that started my love of cycling -- a Nishiki Sport. I got it when I went off to college back in '83. Slapped on a rear rack, rode the hell out of it, had my most spectacular crash on it, and always came back for more. I ended up selling it several years later to finance a new bike purchase, but I find that I really miss that old bike.

I got a Trek in about 1980 and I think fondly of it often.

Oh man. I wish I had my old Peugeot UO-8 back, too, for most of the same reasons. I got it in '73 when I was in high school.

Not my most spectacular crash, but the one with the most persistent injury (badly sprained shoulder). It was stolen though :mad::( (the bike not the shoulder. Someone can have my shoulder I think)

That's awesome that you still love your bike!

I think I'm there, too. I finally found a road bike that I love and I don't see myself ever parting with it. Someday I may repaint it, or replace parts as necessary - but I just love this bike and I'd never get rid of it. In fact, I'm actually afraid to drive with it on the back of my car (hitch rack). I'm afraid someone will hit it and it's totally not replaceable. I'd be devastated! :eek:

There's no reason to change if there's no reason to change

It makes me think of makbike who just recently got rid of her reliable bike with downtube shifters. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Great bike, Clock! reminds me of my old hardtail that I sold for a paltry sum when I decided I only wanted a road bike.

As for ever replacing my bike - I doubt it - I love every pedal stroke on it and can't imagine ever replacing it.....besides, it's almost worth more than my car!:eek:

Right now I am at a point where I don't see myself getting a better bike for the riding I'm doing on it. If I were to get another bike it would be something completely different like a folding bike or something like that. My Sutra will always have a special place in my heart even as she eventually passes on as the first bike that really fit me and made me the stronger rider I am today. She's all the bike that I need. ;) Isn't that a song?

We never get rid of our old bikes.....so now we have 13! All are ridden for various reasons, the oldest from the 80's, the majority from the early to mid nineties. There are yet others we'd eventually like to have to fill in some gaps, a bmx, a full suspension for me, a cyclocross for the hubby....
We need a longer garage!

I got rid of my first real bike, Fiona. She was a lovely steel Fuji but I replaced her and didn't want the clutter plus the extra cash meant more goodies for my new bike. I wish I had kept her, she would have made a better commuter than the one I ended up buying last week. And she was a cute little bike.

So no, I won't make that mistake with my current Cannondale. I love my bike, I may upgrade (Custom Lynskey how I want you) but I will keep the Cannondale unless the carbon frame gets weak.

I also have my 1989 Bridgestone MB5 MTB and my 1976 Raleigh Grand Prix 10 speed. My bikes know, once I have selected them, it is a lifelong commitment. :D

If you've found a bike that you love, and that loves you, no reason you should ever get another. (OTOH, never say "never." ;) )

I'd still be riding my old Terry Symmetry, I think, if she hadn't gone to the bottom of the bay in Hurricane Ivan several years ago. *sniff*

I know several people who had that bike when they started mountain biking years ago, one of which still has it and had it resprayed to touch it up and rides it now. Apart from the one guy who still has his all the others still get all misty eyed when they talk about their Clockworks, including my OH. He has acquired a retro Orange Prestige complete with canti brakes and ancient Judy elastomer forks but he still misses the Clockwork, not least because it was actually stolen out of his garage :mad: Hang onto it, its a piece of UK MTB history.

Did you know Orange released a limited number of new Clockwork Orange frames last year ?

Ahhh I really enjoyed this ! Like most of you, I have most of the bikes that I have ever bought. However, I had a custom titanium frame made for me in 1994(road) and although I have newer and lighter bikes, I still ride my favorite most of the time. I have put a new wheel set on her a couple of times(she is about to get another new set here shortly)and a couple of new groups... but she is still my favorite. I have several people that I ride with tease me about riding my "old" bike rather than one of the newer Cannondales...and although the Cannondales are great bikes, my "Ti" bike is still my favorite.:D

I have owned forgettable and replaceable bikes, but my very first real store-bought Proper Bike with Big-girl Gears is my dearly beloved dark red Trek 6000, now going on ten years old, and I could never get rid of her. Lovingly described here: http://forums.teamestrogen.com/showt...628#post317628. She was stolen once, and I was really and truly shaken up. I scoured the neighbourhood with "wanted" posters and finally managed to get her back :p

I have 2 other "better" bikes, but nothing compares to my sweet old Trek with the perfect fit :) I've switched out every component, some several times, and will be riding her til the frame breaks.

Yes, I have seen the one you mentioned, I believe they only made 200.

As my OH says, my bike has a certain amount of kudos about it. Dunno about that, I just love me bike! :D

I might one day put Hulk out to pasture but I will never get rid of her. She could retire to being something visitors ride, or a spare when my future bike is in the shop. She's not really anything special, but she is my first real bike and I've fixed her up bit by bit until I have replaced every component but the frame.

That said, I do feel I need to upgrade. I'd like disc brakes, which she can't have, and a WSD frame.
