Check out the pics in the thread that jobob linked to. Notice that instead of one thick top tube they all have two thin tubes that go to either side of the seatpost. I think that was done to add strength since the sloping top tube of the old ladies bikes caused the frame to be weaker.
(hidden nuance: 'mixte' isn't as denigrating as ... "old ladies bike" :D :D)
Don't men ride mixtes as well?
Anybody wanna buy one?
Oh, you mean old-school women's bike.
That outta clear things up. Maybe.
I'm sorry. I was just trying to explain. I didn't mean to cause any offence.
Mixtes make nice single speed or fixed gear conversions. As a guy, I would even ride one as a fixed gear for putzing around town.
Yeah, my husband rode my latest single speed mixte conversion to work yesterday. I don't see anything particularly girly about this bike:

I think it's only in the US, "Home of Male Sexual Insecurity" (tm), that mixtes are considered girly.
That is one beautiful bike!!
I was pokin' fun at the male insecurity... not even the "old ladies" part ;) Some of my best friends ride mixtes :p
I am but I haven't been trying very hard.
Really, I am.
This one.
http://forums.teamestrogen.com/showthread.php?t=19697 I paid $150 but that included shipping.
If you want, DB and 7 can have a look at it for you when they come up to ride on the 5th.
It's gorgeous. How tall are you? How well did it fit you?
I'm 5'2" or 3" with a 29" inseam, it fits like a glove.
I'm 5' 5.5". Would it be too small for me?
Probably so :(
What do I know, though? I'll make 7 and DB look at it just to make sure.
