this came up on another forum and I admitted I have named my bike... Raoul... because he's sexy and stiff and always gives me the ride of my life... :eek: :D Yep, he's my man... never lets me down like the others... ;)

I used to call my mtb Fleabane b/c it was the exact color of the flower. It's since been re-powdercoated and hasn't gotten a new moniker yet. My road bike is nameless. My fixed gear/scorcher is "Scorchette", which I also use as an internet handle.
My 1st mtn bike was a trek 4500 and I named it Menstral cycle cause it was a pain in the butt, the next was a take off of that -my 2002 stumpjuper fs I called Minstrel Of the Dawn, cause is bright yellow and reminds me of that old Gorden Lightfoot song, and my current bike is Love Child cause my hubby loves me so much that he got it for me- and it's wonderful. It's a HPL Alchemy. :D

My pride and joy is a 1992 Giant Sedona that I call Sid. It is about the most natural nickname for my bikes yet, and it fits her personality. Competitive but no lightwieght, capable of anything and getting me home from it.
The road bike is a 1986 Trek 400 that I call Allison. Road bikes always have a feminine side in my view, so it had to be a more girly name ;)
The X-mart Next mountain bike that I play with as a beater I call Wally. Origin as well as personality.
2001 Giant XTC is still nameless. It has such a neutral handling personality it seems masculine, but I am still stumped for a name. :confused:
4900 Mtn bike is named Iris - it's a purplely blue color. Trek 2200 road bike is named Equisan - Ojibwa for 'little girl'; everytime hubby would take it off the bike rack it said it was so light and small that it looked like a big little girl's bike. My 5200 is named Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz - I know that on that bike I can fly over the rainbow. I have a new 7500 FX and have only had it out twice - she hasn't told me her name yet but will let y'all know when she does.

My Trek Navigator 200 is named "Baby" coz every time I take her into my LBS for service I tell them to "Take Real Good Care of my Baby"! (which they do)

well, I haven't officially named any of my bikes. it's worth a thought, though. I do often refer to my Santa Cruz Juliana (full XTR and carbon fibre goodies) as a Porsche. Totally proven design, handles like a dream, almost affordable of the exotics. ahhhhhhhhhhhhh, she's so sweet....is the ice gone yet??
as I grind up my next climb searching for something to keep my mind from the pain in my lungs and legs....I'll ponder the names that could fit the steed below me....this sounds like fun!!

My one and only is Bikey, the best bike in the deep blue sea (thanks to SpongeBob and my kids)!
Since I had my eye on her, I always thought about how brilliant the colors were that it seemed like sunshine, it also reminds me of the Sugar maple, strong and its beautiful colors in my favorite season of Autumn.
Maple syrup is also sweet and delightful. Sunkissed Sugar Maple, Maple for short.
My new Mtn bike is a Fisher Tassahara. She is black up front and red in the back. I call her Ruby red dress. She is still at my LBS....waiting for warmer than 30 degrees to motivate me!

Of course! I name all my modes of transportation.
Buster is my old mountain bike.
Wolfgang is my 10 day old Specialized Allez Sport, Red.
My hubby and I have started calling it the Frankenbike due to all of the stuff I keep adding to it. He says its also ugly now with everything, but I just like to be prepared. :P Recently we weighed it and I've added around 10 extra pounds of gear according to the scale. :eek: But I've got a _very_ loud refillable air horn, an HID light, bike pump, seat bag with tools, etc. etc. :D I think the scale is lying anyway. :p
He just laughs at me for carrying all that stuff. At least there isn't a kitchen sink on it. :rolleyes: At least not yet. :cool:

My new bike is named Seabiscuit - because he started at the bottom and was known for carrying really heavy jockeys!
Here's me 'n Flicka at the Cinderella last Saturday....it was our first outing together as friends... ;) ;)
I named her Flicka because of how long I've been wanting a carbon. The boy in the book had wanted a horse of his own for a long time too. And, Flicka was black with a white star on her forehead....the bike's black with white detailing. Plus, I love love love horses, and the bike's my "steed", so it had to be a horse name. Black Beauty sounded a little bit corny (plus, Black Beauty was a male horse in the story). :D

I just got a 2005 Lemond Zurich. It's soooooooo pretty. Took it for its virgin ride today, and wow what a great bike. I'm trying to figure out a name for it. It's a great medium blue steel/carbon combo.
Any suggestions?

I did not buy the red and black GF Tassahara as I had planned. I decided I like the Marlin just as well, for less money and a cooler paint job. Now I have a BRIGHT green MTN bike with no name yet.......
Nuthatch - totally great weather. I ditched work to go for a ride :) I live in DuPage Co. too. I went out past Elgin today to ride the farm roads. So nice. I'm doing 2 rides this weekend. I can handle the 70's :D
I think I'm leaning toward a male name. Though after reading the "eating" post with all the cookie references, maybe Cookie Monster is in order. :D

My ride partner and I are starting to train for the MS 150 in June - we're going to try to get at least 40 miles in today. She's new to riding clipless, new to riding her road bike and very skittish about being on actual highways, so we've compromised with the paved path up at Busse Woods. I hope we don't mow down too many pedestrians! I'm trying to work her up to actually riding on the road... :D

For a steed so faithful and so majestic as your Cannondale, I'd skip the "naming after" to avoid giving her "performance anxiety". Instead I'd name her for a fine breed of famous whites.
Name her Lipizzaner... you can use "Zany" as an affectionate call name.
