It's getting close to when Danskin might fling open the registration doors and the mad rush begins.

I have a friend who did it last year so she gets pre-notification. I'll sift through my e-mail when I get home tonight.
I want to register too! There's an all-female one in Federal Way (June) that I want to do...and the Subaru in Sept. Must start open water swimming when it's warm enough too. I can't wait :D
Got it! LOVE the cell phone e-mail thing.
"We anticipate Online Registration being available for the Races in 2008 on or about Feb 7, 2008. (Date is tentative, please check back periodically.)
All past participants with an e-mail address in our database will be notified prior to Registration opening.
Race is August 17."
So if anyone knows before I do, could you let me know? I missed out by a matter of hours last year.
I got in last year, but wasn't able to train because of switching jobs and a few other life events. So I didn't race.
Wonder if they'll email me?
I also want to do the one in June (is it the Five Mile Lake? I can't remember) and the Subaru.
Edit: Teigyr, is this the one you're looking at in June in Federal Way? http://www.buduracing.com/events_detail.php?e=229
Yes, Five Mile Lake. It's June 28 and I believe we can register now. I haven't...but I should. The Subaru, last I looked, didn't have a date yet but I think it's around 9/13 or 14. At least I hope so...I signed up for a 10K on the 7th. The 10K is Iron Girl at Greenlake, it might be fun! You should think about it.
The Danskin Registration page is up now, but it seems you can't register for races yet. Timberline isn't registering thru their website yet, either.
But it's getting closer...

Teigyr - I'll register for Five Mile Lake tri if you do.
Knot, ok :D Five Mile Lake looks like fun.
I've been scoping out the Danskin site. Unfortunately, I'm working quirky hours this week, am doing a few all-nighters down to Calif. I guess the good part is that I'll be home during the day. Am thinking that if it goes up, maybe I should have someone call or msg me? I'll be sleeping part of the day but I can wake up enough to register. I WANT to do this tri!!!
Oh, I heard the Lake Sammamish tri is fun too. It's put on by the same people who do Five Mile Lake. Am thinking of doing it but it's the week after Danskin. Decisions decisions :D
Ok, I signed up for Five Mile Lake! 400m swim. Let's do it!
I haven't signed up for Five Mile Lake yet, but I will. I liiiiiike the idea of only 400m swim!
Danskin isn't up yet, but I will text your cell phone as soon as I see it come up. Their website has the link to Timberline now, so it's coming soon!
Then there's the Subaru.
I'm thinking if I do 3 sprint tris this year, that will make me content.
(until NEXT year!)
Subaru is wonderful. I can't do it this year because I already signed up for the Iron Girl 10K on the same day. Subaru hadn't announced the date yet and the Iron Girl looked like sooo much fun (at Green Lake and looks like a great atmosphere!) so I registered. If you do Subaru, the bike course is great! The run course isn't that bad and the swim, well, I believe it's 700m. It wasn't too bad.
I think I come back in to WA at around 7am on thursday. I'll probably check Danskin before I head home, if I can. If not, I'll check it first thing when I get home :D I will leave my phone ON and beside the bed. Thank you!!!!
I'll be in San Francisco for most of next week, but I will be checking the Danskin website.
It's in two days, right? They're saying the 7th only I don't trust them. Last year it opened a day early and I missed it. So I THINK it's this week. I am poised with CC in hand.
When do you suppose it's ok to start swimming outside? My wetsuit is sleeveless so I'd rather it not be too cold.
I don't trust 'em, either. I'm ready to LEAP into action with my CC and my USAT cards.
May was when I started swimming in Lake Washington in my sleeveless wetsuit. Late May, maybe. We could swim together and screech about the cold in harmony!:D
I just had a talk with one of my bosses today about maybe doing Danskin...
Do it! Do it! Do it!
Train with us!!! It's such a fun race!
www.danskin.com/seattlemain.html
I've never done Danskin but I've heard great things about it.
Yes, do it!!! We could have the TE contingent representing :D It would be great to have people to train with, also.
Be sure to watch the registration because it sells out FAST, like in a day. The registration button is operational now...they are updating it quickly. It'll be tomorrow or the day after.
And I could host a pre-danskin training weekend here in the Gorge and you'd all be obligated to come.:D:D
Wheeeeeee! :D
woohoo :D:D:D
Now I'm just impatiently staring at the Danskin site saying "open open open..."
I need to lose 20 lbs before I can fit in my wetsuit again.
I need to lose a gazillion pounds and I need a wetsuit. I know I can do the bike part and the swim part (I heard you need to throw the occasional elbow, which as a native NYer I can do when required). And I expect I'll walk the run part. I am getting excited about this.
My best friend did it without a wetsuit in 2006. Wetsuits aren't required. I can't swim, so I needed one just to keep afloat.
Can't say as I had to fling elbows, or had elbows flung at me. I know I can't swim well, so I stayed back and just putt-putted. I had a grand time, which I did NOT expect from the swim! On the bike, no elbows required.
I walked the run part in 2006, and cheered for everyone. Absolute blast! This year I'd like to run/walk. (I'll still cheer, that was such fun!)
Also, on the bike part there were folks watching from their front yards. We cheered THEM for allowing the race to go thru their neighborhood!
I just love the spirit of a women-only race!
Edit: BTW, sleeveless wetsuits can be rented from Northwest Outdoor Center for pretty cheap. www.nwoc.com
I am feeling totally and insanely stoked about this.
You should be feeling stoked. And if everyone agrees and we do a training weekend, we'll go over setting up your transitions and practice them. We'll do a group swim and work on sighting. These are areas where a little practice and knowledge goes a long way to making your race go smoothly and decreasing the Tri jitters so you can just have fun.:D:D
Wahine, YOU are a doll. What fun that weekend would be!
The PNW politeness suits me very well, but I can still call on NY if absolutely required. The elbow comment came from someone I talked to yesterday who'd been through open water swim training and said they were told by the trainer that there are sometimes people who will just swim right over you, literally, and if that happens, use an elbow or two to get them off you. So, only in self-defense, is what I meant...
polite-as-can-be-here-too, so I thought it was a joking reference and never, ever thought you meant it literally...even in self defense...sheesh!
MM...tweaking away here and in jeopardy of getting an errant elbow on Saturday ;)
I've been known to revert back to my SoCal ways** when I'm down there. I also have no problem with elbows or whatever though I've noticed in the women's tri's, there is much politeness. I think the Danskin swim wave is larger than the Subaru or Kirkland ones (the basis of my experience) but I bet it won't be that bad.
One of my swim instructors said she was in a womens 50-55 wave (or something like that) and they were put with the Clydesdales! She said they truly had no finesse and she was quite battered when she left the water
**meaning that a turn signal doesn't mean you're turning, it means the other cars need to hurry up so they can block you from entering their lane
Ooh, it's like Chicken McNugget in a tank of Pirahnas.
At lunchtime, Danskin still wasn't open for any race registrations.
I just checked, and now there is a notice up that Danskin Orlando CLOSED at 9pm. http://www.timberlinetiming.com/inde...1&showBanner=1
So, does this mean that Orlando opened, filled up, and closed in the space of 8 hours?
Hoooo, boy.
I know, I saw that too, and it made me NERVOUS. Arggh.
There are plenty of sprint tris around. If you don't get into Danskin we'll find one for ya. Luna has a women's only in Portland. Very low key.
Thanks, Wahine! I like Portland, too. That would be fun.
And there's the Five Mile Lake women's tri in Federal Way on June 28. (Teigyr already signed up for it, I intend to also)
And the Subaru women's tri in Kirkland in September.
I think I'll do the Lake Sammamish tri also. It's a week after Danskin, that is the only downfall. I heard good things about it and the running/cycling parts look very pleasant and easy. Re the Five Mile Lake one, the swim is 400m! It really gets no better for challenged swimmers such as myself.
Danskin though....now it's personal. Silly thing was supposed to open today? I worked an all-nighter last night and just got home. I work another one tonight. I must sleep at some point but dare I sleep thinking that registration might start? Orlando filled up so quickly. I'm stubborn and I don't want it to defeat me.
Luna looks good too. I saw that in some publication or another and thought it would be fun.
Oooh, If I don't get in the Danskin, I wanna do the Lake Sammamish, if it's women only.
Luna, I assume, is women only. When and where is it?
Do you have a link? (cuz I'm too damm lazy to go look for it, y'know!)
Is this it?
http://www.racecenter.com/allwomens/
Lake Sammamish is not women only but I heard good things about it:
http://www.buduracing.com/pdf/2008%2...i%20082308.pdf
The mixed gender one I was in wasn't brutal but it wasn't as polite as the women only one. My chain was actually knocked off my bike when I came back into transition from the swim  Support was good though and besides the killer hills on the bike course (this was the Kirkland tri), I couldn't complain.
A friend of mine did Danskin last year and she promises to msg me the minute she hears that registration is open or if she hears about when it'll open. The Danskin site says anyone with an e-mail address on file will be notified (I submitted my e-mail address) but I figure I'll cover all bases.
Yup that's the link for the Luna that I was talking about. I haven't done that tri but I've done Blue Lake which I think is on the same course. Very nice venue and flat.
6:50am on Friday the 8th... Registration not open yet.
I do see you can register EITHER as age group, or as mixed group. What is everyone going to do for this choice?
I am going to register for age group unless peer pressure convinces me of otherwise. I'm not going to place (win or show) and it really doesn't matter. Are you going to do it? I'd far rather be in a wave with friends than strangers though be forewarned, my bike tends to be very lonely when I come out from the swim portion :D
