Jeez. Now I know why they tell you not to exercise too close to bedtime. I just did my very first Spinervals ever and feel like I could fly to the moon.
If I post again at 2 am you'll know why.
That was very cool!

Which one did you do?
oh that's funny!!
sleep well. :D
hahaha. sleep well eventually!
Uh, I believe they call this one "Spinervals for the Lame and Halt", aka Spinervals 1.0, the fitness series. You guys had me so scared of Coach Troy that I got the absolute easiest one they had just to make sure I didn't start with one that would be awful. So...I'll be working my way up. Sure hope there's a brisk trade in secondhand Spinervals out there. They ain't cheap. But it sure was fun.
Humph. Glad I'm keeping you guys entertained with my future insomnia. It's good to be of use.:p
Hee hee. You're gonna be up alllllllll night.
I'd have a PJ party with you but I'm heading to bed.
Attachment 5189 thbpppthh :D:D:D
At least you'll have someone @ the other end of the globe who can talk to you when you're up @ some blech time!
:D
Salsa - let me know when you are ready to part with 1.0 and I will take it off your hands - I need SOMETHING to get me motivated other than my iPod.
So.... Salsa... what time you get to sleep then?
Yes, inquiring minds want to know...
Well, undramatically enough, I probably fell asleep around 12:30, which isn't all THAT much later than normal. But before I did, I not only posted here, but I emailed my spouse (working in Florida this week) AND my former principal who's a big cyclist, and babbled away about Spinervals. It was very funny. Those endorphins sure make you euphoric and nutso. My spouse thought it was real cool. My former principal said, "What are Spinervals?"
I still think it's really cool.
Salsabike - I felt the same way after I did my first Spinervals. I got the Time Saver one and the Autumn country ride one for X-mas. When I saw the easiest rating on them was 7.5 I thought I'd die. But I've been able to do 50 min. 8.something and felt really really really good afterwards. I did give Troy the finger, though, after a tough "climb."
I even came downstairs after the first to show my family how sweaty it made me (I think it was Christmas afternoon). I don't think they appreciated my excitement because my Dad said "Ew, you look like you just got out of the shower":D
Enjoy!
Go ahead. Make the leap. Get the Uphill Grind. You don't need to use the same gears that ETC tells you to use. You don't need to be able to do every climb at first. Like Veronica, I like this workout; my pea brain needs entertainment to duke out the pain. So don't worry about working your way up one 'spensive DVD at a time per the difficulty rating. Look for ones that have the duration you like (many are the 45-55 min range and there is a leap to much longer sessions) and then adjust your gears or resistance or whether you stand until you gain more fitness. The structured intervals at any effort are better than too easy.
The Team Clydesdale tape makes an excellent recovery tape or more mellow alternative to the Uphill Grind. Just remember that you can adjust your effort level to any workout. Pick ones that keep your brain happy.
Uphill Grind is an oldie but goodie. First of all, it's excellent hill training. But best of all, it's relatively SHORT in duration. I love combining it with Hillacious or even one of the leg strength-building workouts.
Pricey but worth it (especially now )
Last year I got this multi pack - http://www.spinervals.com/index.php?...roducts_id=199
You'll always have something different.
I have 3 different spinervals and my favorite one is the uphill grind. It seems to go faster then No Slackers Allowed and Suffer-O-Rama. This has been my first season with Coach Troy and so far so good.
I'm about to attempt "Mental Toughness." I borrowed it & was just queing it up on the VCR when I noticed that it's a 9.5 difficultly level ()
I'll be back in 90 minutes to let you all know how it goes...
Ok, I'm convinced that "Mental Toughness" is not killing the next person I see in little khaki shorts and a polo shirt :D
LOL. :D:p:p:p That's pretty funny.
Oh lordy, now we're talkin'.

Five hours of fun.
- jobob who has yet to make it all the way through the 2 hour Aero Base Builder V
My undercarriage would be numb after the first 100 minutes
I wonder if it includes rest stops. :p
hmmm ... for the full century ride effect, one could set up a "rest stop" table with mini pb&j sandwiches and banana halves & circus animal cookies & watered-down gatorade. And make your bathroom really scuzzy and forget to leave out the tp. :D
I did that one IN ITS ENTIRETY one time last year. It's actually not that bad if you put on some good tunes of your own.
Jo, there are several rest stops---3 minutes each but you can lengthen them.
If the weather doesn't let up and give me safe pavement, I might have to gut that out again to prepare for the Wild Goose Chase.
So my first observation is...maybe I should try Aero Base V on a day when I haven't just finished the Spinervals 1.0 DVD.
I have a question for the Aero Base V users---I will NOT be dong this whole 2 hours, not for a long time. I'll start with doing three or four sections at once. Does it matter how I chop it up--which sections I do? I did look at them all so I have some idea of what they involve. Would any three or four sections do? Thanks.
are there any workout cd's that have Classical music on them?
Mimi- Here you go! I saw this DVD in the Collage Video catalog. Just type in "classical" as the keyword in the search They are a great place to order exercise DVDs, etc from.

I could be wrong, but I don't think it matters. Just make sure to warm up beforehand & cool down afterwards.
The most I've done so far is the first five workouts which took about 1 hr 30 minutes. In general I only manage to get in the first three workouts which take about 1 hr 15 minutes or so. But as far as I can tell, it's all good.
I was actually planning to try to do the whole thing today, half in the morning and half in the evening, but I woke up achey and headachey and have felt that way all day. I think I might be coming down with the creeping crud - just in time for the long-awaited 3 day Presidents Day/Tour of California weekend. lovely.
I agree with Jo. I don't think there's any real science to it. Do what works.
Thanks, y'awl. Yoost checkin'. Jobob, sorry you feel crappy--maybe it will do its worst before the weekend, a perverted sort of hope, I grant. MP, hope the job thing's coming along nicely, as my Grandma Minnie used to say (as in "How's Auntie Fran, Grandma?" "She's coming along nicely").
At the bike shop's inside ride, they switched to the "power" series (http://www.saris.com/p-343-power-training-dvd.aspx ) that's done with the guy riding *with* us (bike mounted cameras & mic) and breathing hard and everything. Same endorphins :) I at least get to ride home to cool down afterwards... I like a gentler touch than Coach Troy - you guys are nuts! In a good way, but nuts!!! :D :D
