I've made it to Level 50 a couple of times. That degree in Classics is finally paying off... in grains of rice!

wow, Veronica, I"m on a roll!!!
(thanks, i think! )
dang you.......:D
//up to 38 so far.....
OK gals, it's time to play beat the college dropout!
All that reading is finally paying off in .... 1300 + grains of rice!
yeah, this is addictively fun - I'm in!
I need to expand my vocab!
I'm stopping at 1000 and level 40, but passing this on to my cousins in college. Their vocab skills could use some work:rolleyes:
Best I could do was 47
Really enjoyed this and did well - despite a few guesses
(Did you know dhole is a wild dog?)
Gonna pass this on to a few tautological friends at work so they can add to their vast yet repetitive vocabs...
I lost it at level 43 with "ecchymosis"
:p
I'm going for quantity not quality. I've been as high as level 50 but mostly hover around 39-42. I was at 1850 grains of rice. Went to another screen and .... back to zero.
I stopped at a little more than 1000, it was tiring. :D
I just got home from a trip, and this is what you give me? :D I've got work to do!!!
AARGH!
Must stop....
Man, that is addictive! I hope it's for real. But even if it isn't, no harm done I guess. I'm hovering around 47-48, 1000 grains so far.
Thom told me about it yesterday. I keep one browser window open to it and play off and on all day. When I get to 5,000 grains I close the window. :p

Anyone else find it ironic that the free ad at the bottom is for Googles "10 fat burning rules - loose 9 lbs in 10 days with these 10 easy rules of diet and fat loss." but I guess the people getting the rice are glad this is here.
That was not only fun, but I feel a little smarter (and maybe I'm doing a little good, too). But, why do I feel like I'm taking the SAT again- that or doing the NY Times crossword puzzle???
Whew. 1000 grains. highest level 42. Not quite as smart as I thought I was. They sure use some arcane words, don't they? ;)
I wonder if I'll remember any of the good ones to use in scrabble. heh
Hugs and butterflies,
~T~
Just think, there are probably 500 12-year-olds studying those words right now for the Spelling Bee and can whip all our hineys!
Karen
You know... I have been thinking about this... and playing again :p and coming back here with comments on the words got me thinking deep (well- its deep for a Sunday morning!)
We have really dumbed our everyday use, and reading/literature use of a very rich language right down.
Probably many of you have seen the beautifully filmed and acted movie "The Last of the Mohicans"
How many of you have read the book. I lay down another challenge even though it donates no rice. Find the book and finish the first chapter (or even a page)... and then remember that only last century (the first quarter) young boys were reading this... pre-teens and teens... and look at how simplistic that age's literature has become now...
Very addictive, plus I was surprised at all the words I knew. Thanks a bunch for this site. I shall pass it along to others.
Most of those spelling bee kids COULD use those words in conversation, I'd hazard a guess. They're usually the cream of the middle school brain trust.

... almost as addicting as free rice, good cause as well

Oh My... That is also very addicting. I'll forward these to everyone on my email lists. I'm a vet and have LOTS of people who could kill time all night long at work (I work at ER) when it isn't busy! We will feed them all before weeks' end!
Thanks for pointing these both out. NOT that I needed another way to kill time on the internet, but at least this doesn't cost me like the shopping!

Did you know that Free Rice has new subjects? Geography, languages, math, art, just to name a few.
Enjoy!
Wow. The art one is addictive. I got up to level 6. Oh wait - level 7!!
What? Dang I am just doing the plain one...4360 grains and my brain is on fire. :D
The grammar aficionados amongst us should enjoy the English Grammar option. :D
(whoops, got another one wrong, rats!)
I'm absolutely hopeless at the art thing. Oh maybe not totally hopeless: I'm pretty good at recognizing Franz Marc's style...
Wow - I seem to have retained some German after not taking classes for thirty*mumble* years.
