I'm at the Hampton Inn in New Albany, Indiana waiting for Silver...it's dark, but she's within a mile of completing the New Harmonie/New Albany ride. Unfortunately, I just talked to her and in the last mile, :rolleyes: :rolleyes: they TOOK A WRONG TURN!:rolleyes: :rolleyes:
This is 140 miles across Indiana from the Wabash River to the Ohio River.

Ouch on the wrong turn! Did that about 2 miles from the end on my first century. I was nearly in tears.

I got lost and added 10 miles to a century on a weekend that I planned on back-to-back centuries. I almost cried. Luckily, I was able to cut out a 10 mile loop later in the ride, and completed both centuries. Yippee for me!

Yeah..great job Silver.....but I'm almost kinda MORE impressed by the fact that she married a Mr Silver who is not only waiting for her, but took the time to write and tell US about her accomplishment...

I will be the first to admit I haven't found the moxie to commit to anything over a century. Heck, I cried when my first century didn't end when my odometer hit 100.
OK!! just a start...I don't know where to begin....
total miles for the day 139 miles 17 mph average!
We took a wrong turn on the last 2 miles and it got dark. Thank goodness I had some lights!
It was a perfect day for a ride. Mostly wind at our backs, Fall leaves, lightly trafficked roads. some flats, some rolling hills, some "real" hills and some lovely downhills! cows, horses, vistas and farmlands. mr. waiting for me at the end!
It was lovely. I didn't have as much push after 100 miles but could have gone on farther if we'd had more daylight. We'd like to make this an annual or semi annual event and we learned a lot to improve it next time.
I'm looking forward to doing more long distances. I really love it!!!!
PS: I passed 6,000 for the year on the ride!:D

Congrats Silver on both the ride and the 6,000 miles! I just read about RAINStorm last week and it sounds like a winner.
Beautiful pictures silver! It looks like the weather in Indiana is still wonderful! What a fantastic day and ride you and your friends had. I especially loved the pictures of the three of you standing along the Ohio River with the sun going down. I'm also jealous that you got 6,000 miles logged in this year and you finished a 139 mile ride! I'm going to use you as my inspiration for next year! Time for me to get my @&& in gear and start riding a lot more again! Congratuations again . . . you rock!

Congrats, Silver! Looks like you picked the perfect day to have that amazing adventure. Thanks for the report and for the slide show- just loved seeing all those pics!
The ride was planned for Saturday the 10th. But as the week went on we saw that Friday was going to be much better for weather. We were bold at saying could everyone switch days. C had to ask off work. D and I had to rearrange our schedules and get our junk done early. I was moving the in-laws and worked late each evening to make sure that they would be OK on Friday. But it's not too often that the perfect day presents itself and one can take the opportunity to use it.
Everthing just fell into place at the last minute and we were able to take advantage of the opportunity. If we had let the logistics stop us we would never had done it, but we continued to plan even when it seemed complicated and in the end it worked out. We did have the help of 3 supportive SO's and we couldn't have done it without them.
D wore a garmin and sent the info this morning. we had 9500 feet of climbing. No wonder I was feeling out of Oomph at the end. I never felt like I was blowing up, but just nothing extra in the last 40. When it got darker and we made the wrong turn I probably would have fallen apart but didn't want to do that in front of a guy. Had to keep a game face on! But we had a sidewalk and light's at that time so did feel safe. Yes, we rode on the sidewalk for a mile. It was safest for us under the circumstances.
No, Coast to Coast doesn't appeal to me. It's a race and just seems stressful. I like the idea of riding the state lengthwise but I don't even ride on the roads that they use in this area, as they are not really bike friendly.
RAINstorm appeals to me, but doesn't seem logistically good for me with my family obligations. We can fairly easily get away for a night or two but the thought of leaving the family to their own resources for a week seems a bit much. I know that Mr. wants to do RAIN and I do too, that will be good for this upcoming year. hopefully Mr. will be interested in this New Harmony to New Albany ride next year. I'd like to make it a semi-annual event. It's such a great route. We learned a lot to make it better next time.

I wish I was a better picture taker. The pictures just do not show how beautiful the day was. I wish I could learn to take pics on the bike.
Mr. SR500, you sound similar to us in trying to weigh cycling with Family. Sounds like a good year you have planned.
I couldn't do the cycling that I do without the support of Mr. Thank you Mr. for supporting me. He really didn't want me to do this ride and I pushed ahead.
