I must not click that link. I must not click that link. I must not click that link. I must not click that link.......
I recently emptied my garage of my 7 bikes on ebay :o , and with the proceeds purchsed my lovely Trek 07 pilot 2.1 :D
I buy bikes like most women buy shoes :(
I must not click that link. I must not click that link. I must not click that link. I must not click that link.......
Okay..., I gave in, I clicked the link
A very pretty bike....
But then I got a little sad. I clicked on the 'change country' link (at the bottom of the page) and there it is; A dull lifeless website for the UK :(
Just check out the difference, and note that the UK site doesn't have women specific equipment  The US site is exciting and inspirational, UK is flat and dull. Which is why I ususally buy my cycle wear stuff from the US, I don't want to always wear Black, Blue Red or Grey :p

Silver, DON"T LOOK!
I have to block this website
I'm thinking this would be a great commuter. Never mind that I already have a mixte I fixed up to ride to work. After all, it's 1.5 miles. I need a spare, right?
Trek 7.3fx WSD
That's right. You need a back-up bike. ;)
Am I missing something, or have they cut out the starter ranger Pilots and such? And are there fewer WSD choices, or am I confused?
I'm just glad that the Pearl Pink paint is still available! My baby is being PAINTED by Trek right after the Tour of the Ozarks! I was worried that it couldn't be done as they would drop the color with the new model year. She MUST match my pink Speedplays (and I want people to know that I'm a GIRL as I buzz by ;) )

Hmmm, a Madone that isn't OCLV?
That Madone 4.5 looks like the same material (the TCT carbon) and componentry (105/Ultegra) as the 5000 I bought this year...which I got for considerably less. Hmmm.
Methinks thou shalt hunt for a 5000, Sara. Though (whispered) I like the looks of this one better than mine.
I'm swooning. She's so beautiful.
DH said I could get a Madone on one condition . . . he gets one too. If I could only find that $10,000 I left laying around. Think I'll go check the couch cushions!
I noticed the same thing...there are not as many models or choices this year. And a lot fewer WSD choices. Maybe Trek decided to cut out models that weren't selling as well? I was disappointed with all the "missing" bike models. But I'm still drooling...
Limewave, I can't find my extra $10K either. It must be around here somewhere.
No more Trek 1000. :(
Now I wish mine had been a 2007 instead of 2006.

Not lusting after a bike right now, so you're safe there. (although those bikes are purdy) But the wheel sites.........there could be trouble there.
Can I get these? Please? They cost less than a new bike ;)

That's one sweet ride alright... One thing, I've seen the new Madone shape up close - it reminds me a LOT of my Giant OCR-C. I thought Trek was 'on the edge' with design? Aren't they the designer of those fancy Lance TT bikes?
Oh well, anyway... I love the looks of this bike! (familiarity, maybe?) hee
Love the paint!
Weird that none of the WSD bikes -- not even the top of the line Madone 6.5 -- have a standard double (53/39) as an option. Gotta think there are some girls out there that could use WSD sizing/geo but between terrain and fitness might not want a triple or compact.
They are pretty though!
EDIT: oh, looks like even on the non-WSD Madones you now have to go up to the "pro" level (which IS more expensive) to get a standard double (what? weird). Apparently they figure the average customer spending over $3000 on a carbon race bike is a weekend warrior (which may not be so far from the truth). Or maybe they're just hoping they'll be able to sucker people into buying more bike than they wanted so that they can get the gearing they want...
The LBS that sells Treks was not very flexible about swapping out parts either (the other local shop, which tends to focus more on higher end bikes than the shop that carries Trek, was ironically very into customizing and seemed like they'd make good deals on swapping parts).
BTW I'm not being snobby about triples/compacts, I have triples on both of my bikes, I just think that if you're spending that much on a **race bike** you should be offered the option of standard gearing, without having to spend more for it. And it's not even an option on the wsd bikes -- there's no "PRO WSD" line -- who are they to assume that all of the women for whom the non-wsd Madone is not a good fit are not strong enough to push big gears?
I've been disappointed in the changes Trek has been making to their WSD line lately.. it seems like while other companies are increasing the amount of stuff they design for women, Trek is cutting back. They're not spec'ing the bikes as well... and having to spend over $3000 to get OCLV rather than TCT is lame.
I must note that these comments (about Trek's weaker spec'ing and oclv prices are equally applicable to the men's bikes).
I tested this one ( I am lucky enough to fit well their regular line)

LOOOVED IT, way better than the previous Madones, more stable, more responsive (yeah, the guys in my LBS totally knew what they were doing to me.....actually, I think they did it on purpose!!!)! I am in a big trouble. I bought a great Specialized last year, there is no way I can justify this wayyy too expensive bike....unles I convince my DH to buy himself another bike :D
...and forget about our trip to Africa next year!!!:(
Seg
Short answer:
TCT is heavier and less stiff. Also, TCT is made in Taiwan, whereas OCLV is made right here in Wisconsin.
here's trek's answer to your question:

I've been looking at a couple closeout Madones, but DH stopped by the LBS today, and the guys gave him a killer price on a '08 5.1 WSD. So I think I'm going to go that way, but it won't be here until late Sept. The larger problem is what size? I settled in on a '07 5.2 WSD, as rode one last year for a week, now the new bikes come in 50 and 52 with new geometry. Right now I'm leaning toward the 52 and maybe using a shorter stem, it's top tube is only 6 mm longer then the 51. Problem is know one has any to test ride, and no one seem to know much about the WSD's.
Seg, what size did you ride (compared to your regular size)?
Any thoughts?
Thanks
I ride a 54 Tarmac. The Madone I rode was also a 54 .It was perfect!!
Seg.
I'm glad I got my Trek 5000 when I did too!
This is the one that turns me on: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1313/...23cf28c664.jpg
Different bike, different use....both equally beautiful, hence the need for many, many bikes to cover all our bases :D !!!!!!
Well, Sara, I just want to say THANKS A LOT! You just HAD to post this, I just had to look and for months I've regretted selling my Trek 7.2fx commuter bike. Then it appeared. A mocha duotone Trek 7.2fx. What was I to do??? After all, I commute 1.2 miles to school, and I'm NOT taking my Burley Sahalie out in the rain.
I swear, you guys on TE are as bad as my kids when it comes to helping me spend money. Gorewear? check GPS? check. Mixte project bike? check. HR monitor? check. Brooks Saddle? check. Now this. I walked into Trek St. Louis, knowing what size I needed, and said "I need THIS bike with a computer, rear interchange rack, 90mm stem and full fenders". Had it within the hour. They were terrific, by the way.
Just kidding about the money thing. I've been given great advice, and have made solid purchases based on reviews and discussions I've read on TE. Now pics of my new commuter. New $saddle$ on order and $Ortlieb bags$ soon.
I love it too!!! What a nice bike and such a pretty color!
