I am seriuosly thinking about it cause I am tired of shaving my bikini line and the razor always give me a rash. And I am tired of using creams. I can not believe those creams are very good to put on your body. But they work so well. But I know nothing about this stuff. Anyone ever had it done?
Hi, I have. I've had all the hair under my arms and the bikini line permanently removed. I love it!!!!!! It's sooooo much more comfy for me and I never have to worry about hair showing. good since I do triathlons and swim several times a week.
I've used both electrolysis and laser. I actually prefer the electrolysis but I think if I had to do it over might try to use the laser more. Laser has gotten much more reasonable in cost lately. It is works best if your hair is dark. It will take about 4 to 6 sessions and then you may still need some electrolysis cleanup work. I'd price a few places around. They will usually have package deals. I'd plan to do it this fall/winter. It's best if you don't have any sun exposure in the area to be treated. you will probably be able to get all your sessions in this winter and then you may need some cleanup next year. Some hair follicles are harder to "kill" and some will be dormant and then come up later.

I wax (during summer at least). I had it done professionally recently, and the woman really didn't do much better than I do when i do it on myself. I was very disappointed. Some of the angles are a little weird when doing it yourself, but it is do-able.
If you go to a salon, try to get some recommendations first so you have better chance of getting someone good. (Maybe try them out on your legs or eyebrows first) If you go the DIY route, start by doing your legs until you feel pretty good with the technique in general.

I've waxed a lot and am seriously contemplating laser. Hadn't thought about electrolysis, does it hurt? I think it's cheaper than laser.
I recently waxed my underarms and I love it. I would love for it to be permanent. The feeling of being in the shower and NOT shaving is so perfect....
Electrolysis is painful (though, from what I've heard, it's on par with some lasering depending on the site). The bigger limitation is that electrolysis has to be done one hair at a time. It's great for small quantities of hair, such as the eyebrows, occasional chin hairs, etc. For large swaths of skin, laser is the way to go.Quote:

For me laser and electrolysis feel about the same. Not that painful. with either they will usually offer you numbing cream. You should ask about it. However, I just take some tylenol and don't find it to be too bad.

But still it will take a long time. Probably one or two years.

Hey thanks for the advice everyone. I do have dark hair so maybe this will work! I am so tired of shaving! and i get a rash no matter which way I shave. I like that when I use a hair cream remover it seems to not grow in as coarse. But like i said i can't believe those creams are very good for you. Besides they are messy too.
How much does it cost about ? Anyone know?
It depends on what body part is being de-haired. Also, remember it takes 5-6 lasering sessions over a year or so to get the whole thing done. A lasering session can be anywhere from $50-300 a pop. About 4 years ago, I paid about $900 to get both pits & bikini done. I'd love to do my legs but they would have cost at least $1500 at that time, and I'm sure it's more now.Quote:

I asked a place up here and they have a sale through the end of August. Underarms are $399 for a package of five visits (they say you need five) and it's usually $580. Now is NOT a good time but $399?! Even if I just did the underarms now and the bikini later....
That is a really good deal. And besides - it's best to start the program in late summer because you'll need to avoid too much sunlight exposure on the treated areas.
I would need the extended price i am sure! That is another reason why i want to do it. I unfortunatly give my husband a (clearing cough) burn sometimes!. I am going to look into this when I get home from this job here in colorado.
Now I thought you had to go through a Doctor for this. A salon does it though? That is better! I am going t look around.
Now pain? Is it like getting a shot? or a bee sting? Or not?

The pain is like getting popped with a rubber band. Taking a pain reliever prior will take the big sting out of it. Also, if you are very sensitive, you can ask about the numbing creme.
I think it just depends on the area on whether a doctor needs to do it or a salon. check around. I've noticed a few places running deals lately. The place that I go to is a skin care place that is associated with a doctor. They have a nurse practitioner pretty much running it. They have an electrolysist on staff and she can treat with the laser.

The pain level isn't bad. I don't think it's anywhere near as bad as waxing, although it is prolonged as they inch around over the target area as opposed to one horrific RRRRRIP!!! when the wax comes off.

See! Sometimes it pays to live on the poor side of the state. :D They seem to run different "specials", every month. I'm getting my upper lip done now. :rolleyes: So I'll keep a look out for you. I know they run a lot of half price deals during Christmas.
