Let me be the first to say a great big CONGRATULATIONS!! I'm sure it's gonna be beautiful and perform like a champ :D I hope we get to see it soon!
Cool! I have heard such wonderful things about Seven. I'm sure you'll love it!
Great news, Regina. I'm glad you decided not to keep your other Seven intact. You never know what you might need a spare Seven. :-)
Will they have it put together in time for the Sunday morning shop ride next week?!?
(since you're not stripping the current Seven maybe that means I'll still get a chance to try it out...)
Woo-hoo, Regina! Your second Seven--does that make it a ......... 14? Sorry, I couldn't resist.:o
Can't wait to see pix!
Actually, I guess that would be a 21, if you count my DH's (hey - We're legal now!). Or... would that be 343?
Regardless...it would be a pretty good poker hand. ;)
After today's shop ride, I left bottle cages, pedals, and a new saddle with Mike for my growing box of stuff. When it's built up (soon, but not sure of the day), I'll bring the old bike over so they can transfer the Garmin parts. It was sort of sad to do my last "official" ride on the Axiom. So many happy miles....so many wonderful rides.... sigh.
Any pictures of the frame yet???
I was just looking at my Seven catalog today, admiring the ID8 on your behalf!
Not yet. Hopefully on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Here are some pictures. Sorry they are not the best. I was in a rush. The crew were busy (horsing around...ahem!), and a bike on a stand is not the best location for pictures...and I didn't want to ask them to take it down.
The bike will have the 700-series Shimano compact crankset, as the swanky new Ultegra stuff won't be available as after-market until after Interbike (late September?). Mike says he'll swap it out with that crankset then.
But...kicker of it all...he says he'll have it built up for TOMORROW!! Wowza! :D
I'll bring the Axiom over tomorrow night so they can swap out the Garmin (cadence etc) and it should be good to go.
Can't wait to ride it!!
Ooh! It's getting exciting! I can't wait to see the finished product!
Ooohh!!!
Very Nice bike Regina. Its funny I come online and see your pics after just reading a review and oggling pics of the same bike in Road Bike Magazine Sep/Oct issue under Ti Warriors.:)
Whoa- looks gorgeous- you must be SO EXCITED!!!!! :p :p :p
The seat post and the head tube look almost perfectly vertical....is that for a reason?- never seen a bike that way!
So in the end, did you go for the really high end components? :)
That's exactly it. I don't recall the angles, but it's pretty standard, and will get that info with the owner's stuff tonight. The top tube actually has about a 9 (maybe 12?) degree slope to it, and it's straight on the clamp. It's a pretty compact frame.
Thanks all. I'm totally excited. I have the truck with me today and expect to pick it up tonight! Other than the 700 crankset (b/c Shimano doesn't make DuraAce in compact), it will have all DA stuff and nice Kysrium wheels. I'll be taking out on the N2 ride Saturday a.m. Looking forward to that...but I may have to do a shorter shake down ride tomorrow or Friday evening.
very cool, regina! shes a beauty. do you have a name for her yet? congrats!:D
Ooo. Nice. :) I really like the clean, simple look of the Sevens.
What's going on with the seat tube? Is it carbon?
oh........my...........god! That is one yummy-looking frame--I know you can't wait to get it out on the road. More pix! *drool*
Beautiful!!!
Can't wait to see the photos of it all done up up!
It seems like the whole process went very quickly!
It's as yummy as licorice!
Yup, the ID8 has carbon seat tube and seat stays. The rest is double butted ti.
I put Easton EC70 Wing handlebars on it. I had these on the Axiom and I quite like them. The seatpost is a bit of an experiment (:o ) - an Easton EC90 - all carbon, even the seat clamp. The clamp is very flexy, so I don't know how it's going to be for seated climbs or hard riding.
Here are some pics. It's very different looking vs. both my Axiom and DH's ID8. I took it for a ride around the 'hood. Very stiff - much stiffer than the Axiom, and I think some of the front end vibration I feel vs. the Axiom is due to the wheels - Mavic Ksyrium SSC-SL's. It's also got an very upright ride. And, even tho' it looks like a tiny bike, it feels very big. So...the response to it, after about 2 miles is..."Hmmmmm" It will be interesting to take it out for a long ride.
I hope the "hmmmm" turns into "all right!" soon. It definitely looks different than your other Seven. Very, very cool to have a bike made just for you. Congratulations!
Now that is a fine looking bike!
(Ahem, not just because it looks a little like mine! :p )
Regina I have those same wheels and they are stiff - but I am quite a bit heavier than you are. I'm not sure what kind of difference weight really makes, but I sure do like those wheels (except in a strong cross-wind!).
I'm interested to hear you thoughts on the bike after a couple of longer rides...
Oh, but those Sevens are easy on the eyes! :)
Yummy is right! Beautiful bike!
Oooh, it's gorgeous! Hope you enjoy it once you are used to it. It looks like a very upright position. You could always flip the stem and/or remove some spacers to lower the handlebars if it bothers you...
I assume the more upright position is supposed to help your back?
It's beautiful. I'm looking forward to seeing it in person!
Enjoy!
Regina, my Alaris has several spacers to give me a more upright posture. Haven't had an issues w/my bum shoulder when I ride my Seven. I'm actually thinking about setting up my other rides the same way, as I occasionally will have shoulder pain on my bad side from riding in a more aggressive position.
Well, DH and I got out after work for a 20 mile shake down ride.
Summary:
Bike is great.
Bike rider is not so great.
I'll spare you my list of woes, but suffice to say:
1. I'm really beginning to like these wheels.
2. The bike carves s-turns like it's on rails. Woo-hoo! Fun. :D
3. It is super-stable and much stiffer than the Axiom and really wants to hop out of the box.
4. I have a brand-new Fly on it, and BOY! I've really gotta break that saddle in....ouch.
Yeah...I'm looking forward to taking this bike out on a long, fast ride!
Ed. And, yes, MDHS, the bike was designed to allow me to ride, minimizing neck/shoulder/back pain from my herniated disc. I stressed to Seven...I want comfort, particularly on longer (40+ mile) rides, but I don't want to sacrifice power or speed. This is what they came up with for me.
Regina, how tall are you? The bike looks really tall... wondering if I am judging the pic correctly?
According to my doctor: 5' 8.25"
According to my driver's license: 5' 9" ;)
The bike has a significantly sloping top tube (I think 12 degrees), which exposes a lot of seatpost and I think helps create the appearance of a really tall bike. However, I do have pretty long legs....my 6' DH fits the bike, leg-wise (the reach, however, is another matter!).
Thanks! Yes, that's how it looks - like you have really long legs and a shortish torso. I'm the opposite. I'm 5'6" but judging by my saddle height, you'd think I was much shorter.
