Since it's been nine months since the "peeve" thread and Silver and I were talking about this last Sunday, so I thought I'd start this thread for fun:
When riding, it makes me mad when...

When riding, it makes me mad when ... on a 25mph road, a car is an a hurry to pass me when I'm going 21mph! Can't they wait!:eek:
I get mad and upset when I see dead animals, like the rare species kind of animals, way off to the side of the road, so not road kill but probably shot dead by farmers from their pickup trucks. I am referring to animals like an all-black cougar, large bobcat and so on. I can't see that kind of thing from a car, but I sure can from my bike, and it is real upsetting.

Mine would be along the same lines...while I am booking it down the road, taking the lane as I should as I come up to a four-way stop, why does some yahoo have to haul azz around me and squeak back into the lane just before the stop sign, causing both of us to hit the brakes a might harder than if said yahoo would have patiently waited until I got up to the sign? Is it that important to get around the cyclist? :cool:Quote:

sara I had the same thing happen one day- one of the guys at work was complaining about having to slow down for a biker on his drive home last night- and after we talked for a while, I realized it was me that he had been following! :D Best part is that i'm his boss, and the more we joked about it, the more he got to hear about why bikers SHOULD use the road to ride-
I think he now has a much better understanding and patience level for bikers-
My big peeve (at the moment) are the bikers who completely ignore the rules of the road, and cut off cars. (I live in a big college town, and sometimes the riders are a bit oblivious of EVERYONE else on the road)
I was following behind a car going through an intersection yesterday and another biker not really paying attention was going through the crosswalk against the light, and cut off the car, causing the driver, to curse, brake hard, and swerve- thankfully i saw it coming, and was able to stay out of the way. That's the type of thing that makes drivers think bikes shouldn't be allowed on the road- :mad:
It makes me mad that the drinking and driving crowd (which appears to be quite large in this area) thinks it's a good idea to dispose of their empty bottles (usually MGD) in the bike lane:mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: . Two MGD flats in a month!
Ditto - and then there are the yahoos who pass us and then brake & turn into a driveway (or onto a side street), causing us to have to slam on our brakes to avoid rear-ending them! :mad: :mad: :rolleyes:Quote:

Fast cyclists who you don't hear coming up behind you who just pass you in zooming close proximity without saying anything or giving you warning that they are coming up behind you on the road. They give me a heart attack, they're lucky I don't swerve for some reason right as they are passing since I don't know they're there, and I just think it's pretty rude not to let people know you are coming up behind them and are about to pass you fast. Is it too much trouble to call out "Good morning!" as you are approaching behind someone?
Trucks that go by and suddenly accelerate really hard as they are passing you. Um, you are driving a vehicle with a 300 horsepower engine. I am pedaling with my legs. Of course you are going to go faster than me. And no, it doesn't make you cool. Neither does honking at me or flipping me off. And no, it's not going to make me change my mind about riding on the road. Yes, bikes belong on the road. See that bike lane? It's for bikes. It's on the road. The city put it there, and I don't think they would have done so if it were illegal for bikes to be on the road. Understand?

I've had one negative experience with a driver, which was a complete crack up. One of our first times on the tandem we're going down a road with two wide open lanes on our side of the street. We're in one going a pretty decent speed down hill and a lady, who doesn't think she should have to move over into the other wide open lane, passes us slowly in her convertible yelling, "Get in the bike lane!" Dh responds with, "We are! Read your DMV manual!"j
There wasn't even an actual bike lane on that street.
But, like I said, over all we seem to be blessed here with drivers who are pretty curteous to cyclists. :)
...some lazy jerk in his big white truck rolls down his automatic window just long enough to yell at me to stay in the bike lane when I AM in the bike lane. Madder still when the apparently blind, moron driver rolls up the automatic window before I have the chance to point out how stupid his comment is.

Ha! There are a lot of people in Everett in Mullet Denial. (Even DH who swears he never had a mullet...). That interurban trail is tricky to navigate until you realize that in certain places you are expected to continue riding on the sidewalk. As for good beer, we do actually have some; Scuttlebut is nice, as well as The Flying Pig. But those bottles are probably a lot harder to shatter.Quote:
