May 18th everybody- get your panniers ready and pack your high heels in tote, ladies!
High heels? what's that?
don't worry; i will be on the road, come hell or high water!
Funny. Our local news was saying it's TODAY (May 17).
Well, today I commuted to work by bike, tomorrow I'm commuting to work by bike so whether it's today or tomorrow guaranteed support from across the Pond ladies:D
Ahhhh, details, details.
According to the League of American Bicyclists, this week (14-18 May) is Bike to Work Week, part of Bike Month (May), with this friday being Bike to Work DAY.
Confused?
Just enjoy the ride! :D
I always do;)
Our company celebrated Bike to Work Day today (5/17).
They gave participants breakfast and a handy little bag. The manager and one of the racers from Team Healthnet came, and gave out cards, posters, and t-shirts.
I asked the racer about which gears they use for climbing, and he said that their lowest gear on the cassette is a 23T during a typical race. Of course, on some hilly training days they'll use a 27 on the cassette "because sometimes you want to take it easy." says the girl who just switched to a MTB cassette to get up some of those hills.
This is one of the many reasons why no one will ever pay me to race bicycles.
California is different, ours is today (Thursday the 17th).
I couldn't ride into work today - I need the car this afternoon. oh well.
I love the idea of bike to work day, week, month. What gets me are the clueless souls that hit the road because "It's bike to work day!". I saw a number of them this morning, riding two abreast on busy streets or riding against traffic. Saw one guy make a left turn from the proper left turn lane, then proceeded to ride down the street, still in the left lane, next to the center divide. This was on a four lane busy road.
Be safe out there kids!
here in San Diego it's tomorrow, May 18... and they're even ADVERTISING it!!! :D they're using the Amber Alert freeway signs and it's been up all week on the freeways...
I'm not riding tho as I am doing Tour of San Diego on Sat... it's long with a whole lotta climbing... and my commute is just over 40 miles with 2000ft climbing... don't want to be dead for Sat ride!
Ooops, sorry, I thought it was all of California - perhaps it's just N. Cal or just the Bay Area.
BTWD is usually organized by local coalitions in partnership with the local transportation orgranizations. All the Bay Area counties celebrated today. While I love any energizer station, I wish I worked near our downtown. The City Hall and County Administration center stations started a friendly competition--both had pancake breakfasts, but City Hall closed off a block for the festivities and the county added bacon and sausage to their breakfast.
Unfortunately my town doesn't draw attention to this event at all. We're lucky if they mention it during a 5 second clip on the evening news the night before. Despite that, I'll still be riding tomorrow unless the rain looks too formidable.
I'lll be one of the Group Health women manning one of the booths down at the UW tomorrow morning if anyone commutes through there say hi! (Burke Gilman at Ranier Vista)
If I had a job I would cycle to it :(
I had a great morning!
I woke up before my roommate and was out of the house in 15 minutes. I biked down to the meeting point to bike from Shadow falls to Rice Park in Downtown St. Paul with the mayor. It was a great morning and I got to ride with people, which I have never done before (am too pokey for group rides). It was great to chat on the ride. One fellow asked me where I biked to work and I said, "I don't have a job, I just like biking!" and then I aked where does he work and his reply was, "At Regions Hospital, I am a cardiologist." Well yay for fun contrasts! They were all great to talk to. Then we cruised down to the park where coffee, bike store coupons, and REI gift bike bottles were awaiting us.
unfortunately, I couldn't stick around long because I had an appointment. From downtown st. paul you have no choice but to go up a monster hill. I have never been able to pedal the whole way up the Grand Avenue hill- but today I did it! that is a personal milestone. But it was worth it because then I had my massage appointment that I had to book it to. what a great day.
Now I am going to finish this ramble to eat up my favorite breakfast eggs in a basket, orange juice, and coffee (and may I say it is the best eggs in a basket I have ever made). thanks for reading about my great day.
It's raining like crazy here today, so no bike to work. I only commuted one day this week.
It's too bad, because I was going to arrange a ride after work and/or get people to ride in. But, when I saw the forecast, I decided it would probably be a lot of work for nothing.
I had a great ride today as well. I did a trial run of the commute last Friday and it took me 1 hour and 45 minutes but this time it only took me 1 hour and 30 minutes. I have a new cyclocomputer and am not sure if it counted the time I was stopped at the Pit Stop. The weather was kinda crappy: 50s, overcast, and a bit sprinkly but that's ok. It was great seeing everyone out on their bikes.
I nearly didn't commute to work by bike today as we had a strong WSW wind (i.e. headwind going to work). Anyway, I thought I'd brave it and at times I felt I was going backwards:eek: I usually take between 15 and 17 minutes to get to work. Today it took me 20 minutes.
By lunchtime the wind had dropped a bit and was veering round to the West so I had a side-wind on the way home. Bit hairy at times but I managed to get home in 16 minutes (uphill all the way). My best time has been 17 minutes until today and I upped my maximum and average speeds. Must admit my little legs were going like pistons LOL. I must be getting fitter:D
Told you I'd guarantee your National Cycling Day support from this side of the Pond:D :D :D
My work lives with me!
He's my stoker, though. Hmmmm, maybe I'll have a bike with work day today. :D
