Doggy Heaven just got a new member..

She is a SWEET Great Dane named Abby...
She was getting sicker and sicker, and I just couldn't let her suffer. We talked to the vet about it first, and she agreed that it was the right thing to do. Seems it was something related to her pancreas.
I'm sad, but I'm ok. I thought we were going to lose her in Janurary, so I was fortunate enough to have gotten a few extra month with her. And I made the most of it. But the last month has been hard, so I'm actually relieved.
And getting the blessing from the vet helped. I was just so afraid that I was giving up on her, but the vet assured me that I wasn't.
So anyway, it's gonna be weird not having the big grey dog around here, but that's part of life. I grew up on a ranch, so god knows I've seen the entire circle of life, and death doesn't scare me. I mourn the death and rejoice in the life all at the same time.

So anyway, I'm off to Wildflower with the family. Hopefully the woodstock of triathlon will take my mind off of things..

It sounds like you did the right thing, and it's always nice when you have a vet's re-assurance. Sometimes they are better judges than we are, since they're less personally involved.

I know how hard it is, especially with a dane! I grew up with one and we had to put her down b/c of cancer. We(well my dad and my step family) have 2 sisters that we adopted a few years back, but they are getting older- can't imagine life without the two biggest little lap dogs!

Oh Denise, I'm so sorry. :( I guess you had time to prepare since the scare earlier this year, but that doesn't necessarily make the finality any easier to deal with.

Hang in there, you were an excellent mom to Abby and I'm sure she'd thank you for it if she could. :)

Yogi and the other TE fur kids at the Rainbow Bridge are showing Abby around right now. Not only are they surprised by how healthy and happy they all feel, they've noticed that there sure are a lot of butterflies up there!

So sorry for your loss. I think every day what it would be like without my Pip driving me crazy, sitting on my shoulder while I try to type. But even driving me crazy I love the little guy to pieces. Take care. Just know you gave your companion a happy home for many years.

I know a lot of us here have had our fur kids go to heaven in the last few months. It's very sad, but in a way I'm relieved. It has been very stressful the last few months because I knew in my heart she wasn't well, but I didn't want to give up on her either.
We have had a great family weekend in so cal. I'll write more later about the debacle that was Wildflower. Lets just say that after 25 years you would think they would have the race organization down??!!
But we stayed in Santa Barbara lastnight, and we ran as a family this morning along the shore. I was raised on the beaches of nor cal, so I LOVE the beach. It's very soothing for my soul. Glad we decided to stay here. Unfortunately the road awaits, so I'd best get going.

((((Running Mommy)))) I am so sorry to hear about Abby. I went through that 3 years ago with our 14.5 yo black cat Smokey had to be put down. We thought we were going to lose him several months previously, then he got better. When he got sick again, I knew the end was near, my heart goes out to you. It's going to be tough for some time, but as others have said, I'm sure the TE furbabies are showing Abby around at the Rainbow Bridge.
