What made you smile today?

Last month I was a catering volunteer on the NSW Big Ride (a 9 day supported camping/cycling holiday). Today I recieved a letter from my team leader.

"Dear Louise,
I would like to thank you for being part of the catering team. It is good as team leader to know that when I ask you to do something I don't ever think of it again.
The team did a great job in often difficult and trying situations, and the camaraderie and good humour was noted by many.
Your commitment and support was much appreciated.

I just had to smile when I read the letter.
I've been a catering volunteer on the event for the past 6 years, and it's nice to know that people appreciate your efforts sometimes. :)

I smiled (and smiled and SMILED) today because my boss said I don't have to be nice anymore to the major b*tch who has been utterly obsessed with me for TWO years. Boss says I can tell her to "f*ck off"!

Yeah, baby!!!!

I smiled today 'cause I talked to Da Boss & she said I could take a week off to help my daughter move from Minneapolis to Seattle.

Oh boy! I get to drive half-way across the country! With an over-stressed cat! Then drive home by myself!

I need my head examined.

My kitten (she will be year old tomorrow) Twister made me smile today. She crawled into the printer in an attempt to catch "that thing" that was moving back and forth. She stuck with it until the print job finished then curled up on the printer tray and took a nap (it is tough work hunting a printer cartridge).

I was cranking up a 13 grade hill. My boss lives down the street from me, and he saw me riding up it very *VERY* slowly. he pulls over, and as I pass his car, he leans out the car, pumps his fist up and down, and says, "LET'S GO!! LET'S GO!! KEEP IT UP!! YOU CAN DO IT!!"

i nearly fell over from surprise. then i tried to pick up the pace to about 5 mph. hah.

:D lotsa stuff made me smile :D

You can do it Mom! The vet will sell you tranquilizers, and that made a world of difference for our two crazed monsters! We crated them with a small cat box, which kept them contained pretty well during the ride.

Made me smile today: a hill that my new bike could climb in two rest stops today, instead of six on my old bike last time I rode that hill! What a good way to deal with computer frustration!

What made me smile today:

Actually it was last night. I just got back from a short business trip to Okinawa and had gotten an early flight home. I was supposed to arrive at 945pm but got in at 5pm instead. I came home and vegged. Twice someone came to my door (not usually something that happens, and I was quite annoyed because I was chilling before bed). First it was for a newspaper. Ugh.

But second was my husband! He had come home early from a short deployment and surprised me! 2 days early! And he would have beaten me home if I hadn't gotten the earlier flight.

Needless to say I bounced around the room for about 10 minutes before he could get a hug in. :)

I smiled today because after a nasty ending to my workday (major b*tch, but I didn't tell her off because I was on my way out the door) I managed to get ALL THE WAY up the beastly hill on my commute without having to stop and walk. AND I got all the way up the two later mini-beast hills that I sometimes walk.

And that sweated the angry right out of me!

(and realized that some people are so miserable and pathetic that there is no point in being angry at them)

Am doing a sad job this week, cleaning out my parents' house to sell after they both died very recently. Unexpectedly found a couple of notes my mom had written to me in the past. Brought a smile in the midst of a sad week, month, year.

I'm glad I started this thread.
Everyday life can seem to be dull & hard at times, so it's nice to get a good surprise.

What made the letter mean so much to me is that next year there are going to be big changes. There's going to be new management in charge of the ride & a new catering company running things. We're not to sure what to expect, all we do know is that our close-knit team is not going to be the same next year.
At the last "group" dinner, everybody was giving speeches & saying thanks for the years of hard work. Faye actually had tears in her eyes as she was talking to us. To be honest, so did I.
Oh well, it's an end of an era, but I have heaps of memories to remind me of the good old days.

It's nice to have made such good volunteer friends. Most of them are over the age of 40 (I'm not quite yet 30, so I'm known as the "young one").
One lady, Lily, thinks I'm a such nice "girl" and a good worker. It's quite sweet really - jokingly I call her my "Camp mother".
And then there's my other friends - Alex (AKA Scotty - he's originally from Scotland), Norma (who likes bird watching), Little Bob (the route marshall who's nice to talk to), Phil (the luggage guy, with a really loud voice & a great joke telling ability) & heaps of other people.
The chefs were a great bunch to work for. The head chef "Charlie" may seem bossy at first, but get to know him & he's really very easy going - on a good day he'd give me a wink.
All the other chefs were nice to us - and to be honest kinda "cute".;)

All in all, it's nice to have made such good friends.:)

I drove a car in to work today for the first time. As in - I got my drivers licence 3 weeks ago and I was alone in the car for the first time in my life. :eek: Why people DO this?! The traffic! The stress! The lights! The *!"#¤% parking!

But I'll start smiling pretty soon. ;)

Getting a call last night that my precious new Project One is 90% completed and ready for me to come in tonight for a few more fitting adjustments. Thinking of the fun times to come on my sweet new ride is making me smile all day long.

Wait wait I just thought of something that made me smile! The Silver's made me smile and laugh at my thread about Sand castles. Very funny!

Today I received a silent dog whistle that I had ordered to see if it'll keep those vicious dogs away when I ride. Well, of course, I had to blow it. I didn't hear a sound, but a fellow employee came bustling into the office--he had heard it! His new name is Albert the Dog Boy.

Ok, Mocha totally made me smile, that is too much!!

I had a few things to smile about this week:

1) i received a "motivational" mp3 on not taking criticism to heart. Its based on the book "the four agreements". I sent it to a friend. It so happened, that she has motivational "cards" and she pulls one out every time she is about to see a client. The one she pulled out - The Four Agreements. Talk about synchronicity.

2) Mocha

(ok i had to say that again)

3) getting a lovely email from a client, just after i saw her for the first time. She is so excited to get started and thanked me for her assessment.

On my ride yesterday, a car passed me, the sunroof was open and there was a dog head sticking out. he was resting his "chin" on the roof. right in the center of the roof. It was hilarious!!!!!

Today I enjoyed many smiles while working as a volunteer for a kids triathlon in Austin.

We had a terrible storm last night and a cold front blew into town and dropped the temps into the 40's (or lower) this morning with the wind still blowing 20-30 mph. at race time. Not the best weather for a kids tri. However, the kids were amazing and really into the race.

I was working in the transition area and helped a few kids pull on shirts over their wet skin (you know how it bunches up on your shoulder blades and refuses to move?) tied a few laces, buckled some helmets, and sent them in the right direction while cheering them on their way.

There was this one girl that was barely 6, or turning 6 before the end of the year, and rode the tiniest of bikes with training wheels. She made me smile. I loved watching her ride bravely away on that small bike. She was determined and needed only a small amount of help while in transition and she never once complained about being cold, but didn't object when her parents insisted that I zip up her jacket.

I want to grow up and be just like her! :)

I had to smile about our new dog Yukon :)

She loves food-the fridge & pantry seem to be places she knows well- but is a bit fat so lots of walkies & exercise for her.:) She is a very quiet dog & doesn't bark.:)

Her tail wags a mile a minute and reminds me of a windshield wiper! She doesn't like rain much.

We've no idea wy the last person took her to the dog refuge-She's a beautiful dog.


Oh I almost forgot-I met up with our group at the halfway point of the hill ride we do & on my way home after leaving the group, I met another cyclist. She drafted off me for a bit & then we cycled side by side. Turns out she had a little one a year ago & was just getting back into biking. We live near eachother & i've promised to try and meet up!
