Hi Susan, any idea when the boleros by Sheila Moon will be arriving?
- Jo, hoping for a purple one
This is a moderate hijack, but I just got wool arm warmers from Sheila Moon and I LOVE them. I wanted to sleep in the the first night I got them. They are so yummy fuzzy warm. Makes me want more wool - if I were more liquid right now I would start buying up all kinds of wool stuff!!
Just to be accurate...these are the specifications of the Sheila Moon "dri-release wool fleece" material:
"Dri-Release Wool Fleece": 11% Wool, 81% Polyester, 8% Lycra. Wicking, Anti-Bacterial, & UV Protection.
I got the SM wool fleece hoodie for my daughter for Xmas (made from the same material as the "dri-release wool fleece" arm warmers), and it is indeed VERY "yummy fuzzy warm"! But we should note that it is actually only 11% real wool, and 89% polyester/lycra blend. It won't have all the typical characterisitcs (either good or bad) of real wool. Sure is soft and fuzzy, though! :)
Okay - well it is the most wool I have in athletic gear (aside from my smartwool socks) right now, and I am really liking it. Maybe it's a good way to "break into wool".... :D
It's as good a way to break into wool as any other...the SM hoodie was so incredibly soft and cuddly I had a hard time not keeping it for myself! ;)
Jo -- Sheila's website has her boleros, in prints and solids, so you can buy them directly from her. The price is $39 and she has in plum. By the way, the prints are quite nice. These are different from the ones that Terry sells, as the backs are longer. More like a little jacket and less of an arm warmer.
Great ! They must have been added just recently, I had checked the Sheila Moon website the other day & they weren't there.
Hopefully TE will have them in stock soon
We've already received the armwarmers, shorts & knickers. Sheila ships to us as soon as she gets product available, so if *she* has the boleros already, we'll have them within a day or two. (We're 2 shipping days from her.) We're still waiting on jerseys and other pieces as well.
Susan
Anyone know how the boleros fit compared to the Terry ones?
I tried ordering the Terry one last fall. I have fairly broad shoulders and it just didn't work for me. I started with the S/M and it was great except that the part across the upper back wasn't wide enough and the whole thing pulled. Then I tried the L/XL and it fit well across the upper back, but the arms were loose and floppy.
There would be cars crashing every which way because of your hot-ness!! They'd be saying, "Wow, look at that totally hot chick in red and poiple!!" :)
All this talk about nice warm things got me looking. If I'm going to keep riding in this frigid weather I need another layer. Does any one know if those Sheila Moon wool / fleece knee warmers have gripper elastic at the top and bottom so they won't ride up or down?
Martha
They're here, they're here, they're here! I've already claimed a paisley sleeveless jersey and matching plum bolero for my very own. :D
They should be up on the website in the next few days (they're still being checked into inventory, etc.)
Susan
Just curious...will you be carrying the other prints as well? (Like I *need* another sleeveless jersey ;) )
Yes. We have several items in each of her 4 prints this season. With boleros and armwarmers to match, of course. :)
Thanks. They're all very pretty. Good thing I have a birthday coming up. I think I may have to toss a coin to decide.

;) ;) ;)
Hah! I just ordered and received a bolero (light blue), which fits perfectly and a pair of the knee warmers, which are also the first leg/knee warmers that actually fit me. When I opened the package, I read through the catalogue that was included. I'm no prude either, but a few of these items seem a bit "sexy" for riding. The prints are beautiful and the things I bought are well made, but I wonder who buys a jersey that has a giant keyhole opening in the front...
Well, I wouldn't buy a keyhole top becuase it might create a really weird tan...
But generally speaking, I do like biking apparel that is somewhat "sexy"- meaning form fitting or with flattering curvy seams and lines. I love my better biking body as opposed to my former flabbier heavier self- and I like to wear my new body with pride. I confess I LIKE to look sexy!
(not to be confused with looking like a "cheap ho" though, but I don't see too many biking clothes looking like that...) :D
I like tight jerseys, too. But, the image some of the models projected looked more "ho" than sexy athletic to me. Just my opinion, I haven't seen anyone around here ever wearing her jerseys.
Hmm...well I haven't seen their catalog- just their website, where I can't seem to find any ho-ettes.
I "like" the styles I've seen so far, but wouldn't maybe wear some of them.
I think some of their stuff has cool styling.
Actually, my only problem with SM apparel is that they name their things somewhat deceptively, as though they were all wool, when they aren't at all. "Men's Dri-release Wool Tank", "Dri-Release Wool Fleece Euro Cycling Cap", "Dri-Release Wool Fleece Knee Warmers", etc, makes it seem like these things are made of wool, not wool blends. In fact, they all contain only 11% actual wool, the other 81% is polyester and other synthetics. They are not going to behave like wool garments, or have wool's typical characteristics. Nothing inherently wrong with using blends, but I just wish they'd CALL them polyester/wool blends up front to begin with, instead of putting that info under "Specifications, Dri-Release Wool Fleece:....". Some people think they are ordering "real" wool leg warmers, etc.
Gosh Jobob, I'm so sorry. They really are here. We've just had an avalanche of inventory come in the last few days and we are a wee bit backed up in photography. But if you don't care about the photography :) , you can give us a call and we can do a phone order. We just can't put them online til the photos are done.
We get samples and photograph most of our products BEFORE they come in, so usually things go online right away. But sometimes vendors don't have samples available, so we have to do the photography when we receive the items. Unfortunately, we had a bunch of those things come in all at once. :(
Sorry!

somewhat thread hijack
Velogirls have Sheila Moon Wool cycling jackets and vests
www.velogirls.com/shop.php
See them in the what's new category here:

or Sheila's stuff alone here:

Incidentally, this isn't everything. We're still waiting for another shipment, but this is all we've received to date. There will be mesh tops as well.
Susan
Nice looking stuff, and nice website! But again, the Sheila Moon "merino wool fleece" items really ought to be clearly labeled as a poly/wool blend consisting of 11% wool with the other 89% being polyester and synthetic.
Call me a stickler for clear labeling....
Woo-hoo! Thanks Susan ! :)
I've been looking at the boleros at Terry and I'm glad to see the SM's here in great colors. Loving the plum and teal. I'm getting ready to upgrade my bike wardrobe and I also need better shoes. I don't want to cheap out like I did last year, but would rather put my money where I will get the most for my money. I just started riding last spring and am now hooked.:) does anyone have any suggestions regarding shorts, jerseys, and shoes? I would also like a new helmet. The hot weather in the south is murder. I never knew I could sweat this much
On the Sheila Moon website, the picture of the model in the pink bolera has on a different style jersey than the sleeveless jersey sold below. Does anyone know what jersey that is? I like the cut of it much better and the lower scoop neckline.
Also, how garish are the prints in person? I really like the look of them online, but sometimes you just can't tell.
Thanks again.
Annisk,
You really should look through many of the older threads discussing shorts, shoes, helmets, shirts/jerseys, etc. There's a lOT of info and many recommendations in those threads that have been already discussed at great length. It's a wealth of info waiting for you to explore!
:)
Yea! Time to drop some serious hints to DH. :D
The one with the lower neckline is one of her shimmels. We have them coming in some prints but not all. The shimmels are a closer body fit than the jerseys.
I don't think any of them are garish. The boldest is the pucci print. The black/orange is very striking, but maybe it's not for everyone. The plum/paisley is definitely the most elegant combo (and my personal favorite :) ). The pink fleur is bright but not loud. The blue fleur is a touch old-fashioned, but very pretty.
Susan
Susan, do the shimmels have any rear pockets? I can't really tell from the pic on Sheila's site. Maybe one in the middle? Or none? - which would be really disappointing (not to mention not very functional). I like the tighter fit in the sleeveless tops. Thanks.
Do you know if they changed the blue fleur pattern? I saw it in an Ad as a bolero and it was the same print as the pink, just with a color change and it was in the mesh fabric. The print that they are showing now with the same name is more subdued with smaller flowers. I'd love to get the bolero that I saw in the Ad, but I don't really like the one shown on the jerseys, etc. Ok, so I'm a dork, and probably worrying about all of the wrong stuff regarding riding, but hey, isn't that part of the fun about being a girl? ;) My BF says that I'm a marketers dream. Just put "woman specific" on it and I'm hooked:D
I ordered the blue links tank from shebeest and the light blue bolero from SM. I'm hoping that they go together.
Staci
Yes, the blue fleur was changed. It initially was a blue version of the pink fleur.
I just recieved my TE order and want to give it the thumbs up to anyone considering it. The sleeves are nice and long so they don't ride up around your wrists and it's cut well around the shoulder so it sits without cutting when you're riding. It packed up nicely when I didnt need it anymore. I got the light blue to go with the Shebeest rings tank jersey. Very nice. Personally, I like to wear a sleeveless jersey under something else because I always overheat even though I'm freezing my fanny off when I start out. I may be needing another one in another color. Hmmm...
