Simple question..... Who on this great forum has NOT fallen with clipless pedals?
Oh, and if you have NOT fallen, how many days, weeks, months, or years has it been since you went clipless. :o)

There are two types who will answer:
Those who have fallen.
Those who have not yet fallen.
:D
ME!! I HAVE NOT FALLEN!!
(now have i jinxed myself for my first ride?)
Me! I have not fallen! (Probably because I use PowerGrip straps instead of clipless.) ;)
Can't help ya. I've fallen twice--once on each of my bikes. Both my shin and my Bianchi have the "scars" to prove it.
Guess I'll count myself in on this... Not fallen yet... 1 month. :o
I thought I was doing great when I first went clipless I didn't fall for the first few months after I got them put on. Then all of a sudden I fell twice with in the same week. Although one was because of a dog took me and my bike out so I really don't think the third time counted. I was unclipped but still fell over.
We had a poll on this topic in August. There were 16 people who reported no tipover falls with clipless pedals, 29 who reported tipovers while learning, and 16 who reported occassional tipovers. So 26% of us converted to clipless padals with no tipover accidents.

I've been riding seriously for 35 years, tipped over once ~32 years ago with cleats and toe clips, and never again. Been using Speedplay pedals for 5 years and love them. Used Looks for awhile before that. I've had plenty of close calls and panic stops where my foot barely came out in time, but somehow it always popped out. Either luck or a panic pull that brakes it loose.

Thanks for sharing this survey Deb. I didn't think to do a search of the site! :(
I've only fallen once, and it was because of a badly worn look-clone cleat. *crosses fingers and knocks on wood* No problems since I put SPD's on all my bikes. now dh...that's another story...but his pedals are wicked
Carrie Anne
PS - I didn't count the time hubby had to catch me and bike because we didn't realize his pedals (shimano spd) were not compatible with my spd-clone cleats (which work find in my M520 shimano pedals...)
I wonder how many of the 26% are road vs mountain bikers? I can't imagine not falling at some point on a mountain bike. On my road bike I only fell once - but what a fall!:p It was 13 months after I went clipless....fell the same day I went clipless on the mountain bike.
We need a recount - how many people have NOT fallen due to a clipless pedal incident (spd'd) on a mountain bike? And, if you have not ever fallen due to this on a mountain bike, how long have you ridden and do you ride the bike offroad?
Hello, my name is BikeMomma and I have not fallen with clipless in 17 years....
:p

I've fallen plenty of times. But I still like 'em better than toe clips.
For those of you who have not fallen ----> Showoffs ;)
And yes, I am very jealous

Last time I had a fall on the mtb and couldn't get pedal unclipped before landing - this summer. Reason: cleat was too loose.
Last time I had a fall that I could have prevented with planting a foot solid on the ground if I could have removed it from my pedal in time - this summer. See reason above.
Last time I tipped over on my mtb bike just because I had not unclipped as I was coming to a stop.....2005. However, not sure this counts as mtb because we were on the road, not sure it counts as road because we were riding mtb's, not sure it counts as a fall because I landed on DH. (wasn't he nice to catch me?) I still got bruises....and was woefully embarassed.
Only fall (knock wood) that I can recall on my road bike was on the trainer last week when it reminded me that the skewer lever needs to be lined up with the notch in the support thingy. Luckily the wall caught me. :D
There have been countless falls over the years, just very few that I would attribute to the pedals. Mostly, it's just been the operator! :p
Hugs and butterflies,

I fell once soon after I started riding with toeclips about 25 years ago. I went clipless about a month ago, and I have not fallen--and here's the important part--YET.
Hmm, well, I started clipless this March on my MTB - off road. I had the pedals set so they would come out really easy, and somehow have managed not to fall b/c of the clipless pedals. Came very close, as in jerking my foot out (like I said, loose) and catching myself at the very last second. Usuallyany close calls I had were at slow speed, ooh, look at her tumble! Any complete falls were at higher speeds, and I doubt I would have caught myself even if I hadn't been clipped in.
My road bike, I haven't had any issues with yet. I've gotten close a couple of times, but so far (knock on wood), I'm still upright.
