Oh boy, it's almost here. What fun things are y'all planning?
No ride for me, but I'm doing bike related stuff, volunteering at the AIDS/LifeCycle Day on the Ride. Gives me an excuse to spend the night in San Francisco on Saturday, since I have to be at Crissy Field by 4:30 am (yes, that's AM):eek:
Oh yeah, all SF or Marin County riders - be forwarned, there will be approximately 600 LifeCyclers on the roads Sunday!
Need to do some yard work, want to tile my bathroom floor. Have a new brownie recipe I want to try. We haven't made it into the Maritime Park to volunteer in about a month. Probably won't make it this weekend either. Oh... and there's the endless housework and papers I need to grade.
Ride wise - probably do the Sunday Club ride, extend it out to go up Morgan Territory, down into Livermore and back home Vasco Road. That'll be about 80 miles. Vasco is the road we hit 59 on!

For me, it's a commuting to the pool (seems like!) and a little Shopping (!!!), then on Sunday, a 60-mile invitational with the tri club. I'm very excited, even if the weather isn't ideal!!!

It's off to France for me and my finace on Saturday morning for some r,r 'n' r for the weekend. That's riding, rest n recouperation!:p
Hope to do a nice long ride on Saturday afternoon, after a quick visit to our favourite caff for a hot chocolate, then another couple of hours on Sunday. Should be great!
The little cottage we stay at is right in the middle of the country so the roads are very quite and what drivers do pass you always give you plenty of room. For all they know they could be passing France's next -big- thing in cycling so they're very good at letting you have lots of room.
BTW - I'm not France's next big thing in cycling, but hopefully a few hours sweating in the saddle will stop me from becoming a great 'big thing' afer all that yummy French food!:D :D
OOOOOO... I envy you Liz. A weekend getaway to France. :) I suppose it's akin to us San Francisco folk going to Napa or Sonoma. But France sounds so much more romantic.

I'm flying to Denmark Saturday morning and working out there all next week. I hate how the eastbound flight takes 2 whole days, great way to kill a weekend :p I get back home late Friday night but the jetlag will probably wipe me out for Saturday & Sunday, so that's 2 precious weekends down the tubes.
( Don't mind me, I'm feeling a bit stressed and whiney right now ... waaaa :( )
I will be going to Geyserville (Sonoma area) this weekend to ride with the cycling club. Sat will be an 85 mile ride with some nice climbing (~5000'). Sunday will be a shorter and more relaxed ride. Weather will be hot so I am drinking lots of water so I won't get dehydrated tomorrow!

I'm going up norht to the cottage. It's going to be in the 50's and rainy. Should I bring my bike? Or hmmm should I plan on nice cozy rainy day naps and leave the bike warm and dry at home?
I am racing in the 24-hours of Adrenalin in Monterey on May 15th and 16th, so Sunday my team and I are preriding the course together. It’s only an 11 mile loop, but we have to ride about 7 or 8 miles (mostly climbing) to get to the start point. Saturday I might go for an easy road ride. I haven’t taken my road bike out for a while. Not quite as interesting as going to France…:p

Saturday morning ten mile trail run with "the girls". Let me just say - it is amazingly beautiful in Boise, in the foothills, in the mornings - then coffee and chatty time :) . Anyway, then off to my son's soccer game, then a bbq at my house with a bunch of friends.
Sunday, about a 50 mile road bike ride, then taking my mom (who is disabled) to a Cinco De Mayo festival. Hopefully, I work in a pool workout somewhere also!
We are supposed to have great weather this weekend - in the 80s.

Saturday I am doing a 65 mile road ride with hubby and on Sunday hubby and I are joining some friends for a 20 mile mountain bike ride at Skookum/White River near Mt. Rainier.

I know I should get up early and show for the local group rides but for some reason I"m chicken. This is odd cuz I"m not a shy person.
They have easy rides. I don't know what my blockage is.

Whats even worse is I actually am already somewhat acquainted with a lot of these people!!
Actually what kinda makes me uncomfortable is I'm not always that keen on "hanging" with these folks--sometimes these groups are way geeky.
But I guess that's really not an excuse. I think I'm gonna try for tommorrow m orning or sunday. I'll report back!

Well, good luck with it!! I don't know any of the people in the local bike group -- but I guess I should get out and try to be more social. I'm the youngest of 14 children and really, really not easily intimidated. I guess I'd better force myself out. There's an inaugral Thursday night ride starting this week -- I'm going to be brave. :D

Going for an easy 20 mile or so group ride. Really looking forward to it since I rarely get to ride w a group. I love not having to figure out where to go and also just riding in a group. Seems the cars are a little less intimidating. Plus this group is in Delaware and I usually ride over the line in Maryland; variety is nice. Not France or California, but our spring here is beautiful too.
How do you guys fit in "60 mile rides on Sunday afternoon..."? I have 3 kids; all of whom play sports (school and city league both). I will be at the baseball field a lot during the weekend. When I am not doing that, I'll be cleaning the house, doing yard work, having 2 birthdays (my husband and my daughter) and an anniversery ALL IN THE SAME WEEKEND! I am going to get up early Sat. morning and ride for about an hour or so. That's the only way I can squeeze it in. If I shirk my housework, riding's no fun 'cause I am always thinking, "...I should be mopping the floors...and the beds need changing and the kitchen sink could use a good scrubbing..............". Oh, well...I need to get off here and get some of that stuff done tonight so I CAN ride in the morning!

Messy house - me too!
The only chores that have to be done on the weekend are laundry (if I didn't stay on top of it during the week), changing the sheets and the groceries.

Do not under any circumstances allow yourself to think of - let alone feel guilty over housework while you are on your bike!!:D
But I can say that because my house is already a wreck. I have three kids and I'm divorced and in Medical School. The house is the LAST priority in my life - after kids, studying, on-call at the hospital, and my mental/physical health things like my bike.
My house is where "Superwoman" came to die - and she did it a long time ago... of exhaustion. hee hee:D I finally figured that of all the things that I might want to be written on my tombstone, "She was a great housekeeper" wasn't in my top ten.
So PLEASE go ride your bike, Trekchic!! :D
LOL - I've been married 22 years and have two children (19 and 14). I learned a long time ago to get my priorities right and housecleaning isn't at the top of that list. I do it when I can get to it and I don't stress about it. :) If I have to choose between laundry or taking a ride to make myself feel better -- off I go. My health is more important than the laundry. :D

The weekend in France.....geez how cool is that. The closest I come is dinner tonight at The Left Bank! (Which by the way was excellent - I highly reccomend it to the Bay Area girls..):p
Great food, but so noisy - I find it really hard to carry on a conversation there.
Married 27 years, daughter is 22 working for Alaska Airlines, son is 20 currently away at college . . . Joe and I LOVE to bike . . . so that's what we do! And housework, I try to squeeze it in but if it's nice outside it's way down at the bottom of my priority list! But 10 - 15 years ago I could never do this! Kids took up my free time and weekends. Soccer, girl scouts, horseback riding lessons, baseball!!!!! I'm glad I did it! They were great times and I cherish the memories and time spent with my kids but now that they are on their own and tasting independence it's time for mom and dad to do the same! LOL and we are and we are loving it! See what you have to look forward to! ;)

Did my laid back 24 miles with group. Much fun. Now housework time. But as you can see, here I am catching up on my emails. Housework happens off and on during the weekend. Finished up by Sunday night, tho'. As long as we're not getting sick and the house doesn't smell...Does anyone know a "natural" quick fix for allergies? My eyes are burning and nose dripping as all the trees and weeds are in bloom. Difficult to blow nose while riding! Claritin, pseudifed, etc make me headachey or fatigued. Any ideas appreciated.
Learn to do snot rockets. I know it sounds gross. I rebelled against doing it. But my nose runs constantly when I ride.

You could get a prescription for Flonase -- it works wonders and doesn't cause all the side effects. I take Allegra sometimes, but it really dehydrates me.
Have tried to flick snot, but am inept so far. I always manage to screw it up. Will continue practicing. Thanks for the advice.;)
Yeah, never tried flonase.
You really need to make sure that one nostril is covered and your mouth closed, and then just give a strong blow. Personally I try to aim more down than back.
Almost hit Thom's boss who was riding with us today. We were coming down off the mountain and I looked back and didn't see anyone. Then poof they were right behind me as I decided to clear my poor nose. His son is a triathlete so he knows the routine. :p

I'm in the do-housework-only-when-it-rains-or-company-is-coming support group! Kids, birthdays, spouses, those may be more important than biking, but not housework. What's a little dust compared to the peace of mind you get from riding? It takes time, but it's possible to lower your housecleaning standards bit by bit. I did it and will never go back. Besides, those kids and spouse (or SO) can help out, can't they? I would bet they are the ones that make most of the mess. Why SHOULDN'T they take some of the responsibility for cleaning? And if they don't care enough to do so, why should you? We're not cleaning slaves if we choose not to be. Sorry, don't mean to sound militant. I know my house is far from perfect so I'm probably defending my reason for having it so. :D

I've come up with an idea:
I work full time (I am part owner of a business with my dad and brother that keeps me on the road---day trips mostly until about 4:00 every day) as does my husband. We have 3 kids--al of whom are involved in sports year round, which costs a lot of money! We eat out quite a bit because we are always on the run. SO...here's my idea... if we skip eating out 6 times a month, I can afford to have someone come in and scrub my house 4 times a month! Then all we have to do is keep the dishes and laundry done and sweep the floors during the week and she'll do the rest! That works for me! And if everyone else gets to spend money on doing something fun..........so can I, right?!?
I've already decided to go with it whether or not everyone agrees with me! That's called making an executive decision and I just did it! I'll let you know how it goes over!

I've been threatening to hire outside help for my house for a long time. I think it's finally time!! I can't keep up with it during the week so that makes me a slave to the house on weekends. And Sundays are out because of church(we all need a day of rest anyways!). My daughter is so busy with school work and piano/violin practice that she's not much help either.
But with three shedding cats I can't ignore it or else we are overrun with furry dust bunnies!:eek: I think I'll do my research this summer(since I'm off :D ) and find a reputable company to hire.
There, I've decided. Easier than I thought. i just hope the hubby doesn't get too upset.

I moved "house cleaning" to the bottom of the list when I was working full time, two kids in sports/activities year round, and I was in college. I was then only a "runner". Now I have graduated and I am now training for "trialthons" so we (the family) have kept house cleaning at the bottom of the list.
I don't think it will ever get priority, even when the kids have moved out because my husband is an adventure racer/triathlete so we have lots of playing to do :).
Happy parents make a happy family :D
