WOO HOO! I now have a Denver Address!

Hi ladies -
I figure anyone who's a little familiar with me, may click in this thread. I am just SOOOO excited and had to share the news with all my TE friends. It's been a crazy 10 days. I finished up my job in Princeton, NJ on Friday Nov 3rd, and BF and I flew to Denver to spend a week looking for our new (rental) home. Signed the lease on a place we both love (a loft that is about 2 blocks from Coors Field, Lodo, etc) yesterday - and flew back to NJ tonight.
We are here in NJ for 10 more days and then we start our journey towards our new home. Just being in Denver I was so happy. We are a block away from the new Denver Skate Park, about 2 blocks from the Cherry Creek Bike Path. We can walk to the flagship REI - oh my goodness I think I could live in that place. Oh - and we have a view of the mountains from our balcony.

'sigh'....I can't wait to get settled. We even picked up our season passes for snowboarding while we were there.

Anyway - I just thought I would share my news, since I've been away a bit. BF tried to show me around (he lived in Denver for 10 years before moving to NJ 3 years ago) but I was still pretty lost. So any of you ladies familiar with the area, I would love suggestions for eating, shopping, banking, etc. I went to a Title nine store - such pretty stuff.

I was in Denver this past 4th of July. I discovered the wonderful bike trails in Denver. Now, when we go there (usually during baseball season), I want to bring my bike along...you are in a wonderful location. I rode the bike trail to Vail, many, many years ago...such a wonderful ride. Lucky you:p ....I am jealous:D

So glad things are getting settled. I think the move will do you both a lot of good. View sounds great. Bike trials nearby. What a find.

Congatulations on the move. You will really enjoy Denver. There is tons of places to go to! Vesta Dipping Grill is Downotown where you live and is really good. The Denver Chophouse is good...steaks and they brew there own beer. Fado irish bar is nearby and Sing Sings is a fun place to spend time too. For Mexican, the Rio has great food and killer margaritas. There us a great sushi bar at 2nd and Detroit in Cherry Creek with good deals during happy hour. Movies and Nike Store on the 16th Street Mall too. You have a lot to see. Let me know if you need any advice. Hope you enjoy your stay!

Here's something you might want to do...

Tell b/f about easy ride...
Load up car with bikes
Head west on i-70
Take Idaho Springs exit
Unload bikes and begin riding
Ride south on 103 for 15 miles
Take Mount Evans Scenic Road
Ride for 15 miles to summit

Now that is as cool a view as you'll get in the eastern half of the Front Range :)

You can also visit Outdoor Divas at Cherry Creek mall, ride the Platte River trail south to the Bear Creek trail, my neck of the woods, or continue on to Chatfield SP. You can also ride the Platte River trail north, then connect with the Clear Creek and ride to Golden.

I'm just guessing but don't count on Mt Evans at this time of year, save it for summer. The lower part may still be open but the upper part is most likely closed. Besides, it's a lot colder up there than it is here in Denver.

If you're here Thanksgiving, the DBTC is doing a ride from the Performance at Lakewood to Red Rocks. It was my first ride here and absolutely gorgeous.

There is a storm coming in tomorrow that will dump 2-3 ft of snow in some areas over 9,000 ft. Have you tried Snowshoeing?

I found The Eggshell Restaurant on 15th & Blake - I LOVVVVVVE omelettes! And My Brothers Bar was pretty cool. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Thanks - and we got our 3 mountain pass (Keystone, Arapahoe Basin and Breckinridge) plus 10 days at Vail and Beaver Creek. They were supposed to stop selling them the weekend before we were there but they (luckily) extended it. I can't wait to break in my new board. :D

Hi ladies - I have been MIA during my cross country move, but bf, doggie, bikes and self are all accoounted for in Denver now. We got the modem to hook up our internet this afternoon - it felt like forever waiting for it.
The move was....not perfect, but not too bad. Biggest obstacle has been the weather, oh...and the fact that bf's pickup truck broke down 2 hours into our drive.
Sitting on the side of the PA turnpike, I thought 2 things. 1) I am really glad I talked bf into getting AAA last month, and 2) WHY WON'T NJ LET US LEAVE....IT'S SUCKING US BACK IN.....AAAGH!!
Hee hee - ok, it wasn't that dramatic, but still...we had just started our journey when it happened.
It ended up being only a 4 1/2 hour delay after the truck was towed to a Pep Boys in...get this...Mechanicsburg, PA - and fixed. We got to Chicago the day before Thanksgiving and had wonderful weather until we left Chicago on Nov 29th, with the temp around 60 degrees. Torrential downpour for about 5 hours, and then it got colder and colder as we travelled West. When we got to North Platte, NE to spend the night, there was about 6 inches of snow on the ground and it was painfully cold. Before leaving the hotel the next morning, we checked the weather channel and it was -1 degree and -15 with the wind chill. That's just OBNOXIOUS.
We got to Denver on Thurs Nov 30th and our stuff arrived the next day. We are still unpacking and shuffling. We moved into a much smaller space - a loft - so we are having to get pretty creative with the space. We have hung the road bikes on one of the exposed timber beams, and the MTBs are gonna go up to the ceiling via pulleys. Should be interesting. Luckily our ceilings are about 16 ft, so people might not notice them.
Denver got a lot of snow the day before we got here, and it is still melting. I can't wait for it to warm up a bit.
Anyway, sorry this is so long, but that's the scoop.
I've missed you guys - I don't even know where to start catching up. Any new news?

Sounds like getting out there was an adventure in itself. Whew! Glad you made it there in one piece.
I've always wanted to live in a loft. You'll have to take pictures of your new area and post them so we can see your new surroundings. I'm sure it's breathtaking this time of year (in more than one way: scenery and the sheer cold temperature).

I grew up in the Denver area, and though I've now lived in CA longer than I ever lived in Colorado, I'd go back in a heartbeat. Lucky you! I hope you enjoy living there. It does get cold, but I'd be willing to bet the winters are generally milder than what you were used to in New Jersey.

My brother lives in Denver ,and he loves it. Beautiful blue skys all the time. Enjoy !!!! Congratuations

You're going to wait a few months for the weather to warm up. What's it like to be at such a high altitude?

Welcome! :) Its supposed to warm up this weekend, I'm hoping to get out for a short ride.

Cheri, congratulations on moving to Denver! Incidentally, I'm not *too* far away (in Aurora, on the east side of Cherry Creek Reservoir).

For other awesome Denver restaurant recommendations, I would HIGHLY recommend the Buenos Aires Pizzeria and the Buenos Aires Grill, owned by the same people, and both in the area of 22nd & Arapahoe in LoDo (Lower Downtown). Argentine food is fantastic! Also, in LoDo, there is the Paris on the Platte Wine Bar (15th & Water). I love it! Le Central at 8th & Lincoln is a great French place. There is a fantastic vegetarian restaurant off of 13th & Grant in Capitol Hill called Watercourse Foods. Highly recommended.

Westword (westword.com) has many fantastic reviews and goings-on about town.

Of course, you probably already know about the Tattered Cover Bookstore (a location on Colfax & Elizabeth and a LoDo location at 16th & Wazee). Also, a Twist & Shout Records Shop (awesome independent music store, huuuuge) housed in the same building as the Tattered Cover on Colfax & Elizabeth. Also, farther east along Colfax are several very good Ethiopian restaurants--gotta love that injera!

Enjoy living here! Like the state motto sez, "'Tis a privilege to live in Colorado." :)

IFJane - I am in a loft near 20th and Chestnut...near the new Denver Skatepark. I am not sure I see the triple bypass in my ride list this year - looks a little beyond my range yet. But i do hope to be able to do a century this coming year.

Mimi - the altitude adjustment hasn't been too bad here at 5280 feet, but I noticed that when we went for a car ride into the mountains around boulder that I was getting a little queazy. Not sure if it was the up and down part (like a roller coaster) or because I kept looking back and forth with my head - or the altitude. But I didn't feel too good. Haven't tried riding out here yet.

HappyAnika (Jen:) ) were you able to get out for a ride this past weekend?

Congrats on your move! I moved from New England to Wyoming in the early 90's. It was a long move. Moving from there to Colorado wasn't as bad.

When you decide to explore more of the state, come on over to Grand Junction to enjoy the red rock canyon country of the Colorado Plateau. Just 4 short hours away on I-70.

Lots of great bike riding here. Wonderful fruit and wine in the eastern part of the Grand Valley too.

Hey Cheri! I did get out for a ride Saturday, it was great to be out despite the wind. I'm glad the sand on the sides of the roads wasn't too bad. Yet.

So you went up Boulder Canyon? Some of the best hiking in the state is up just west of Nederland at the top of the canyon. Its my favorite place to go in the summer. Usually just driving up to the higher altitude won't make you sick, it might have been the roads. Exercising at the high altitudes it what you have to watch out for. But now that you've been here a few weeks you should be fine. It only takes a couple of weeks for your blood cell production to step up.

I'm jealous you live so close to the REI flagship store. I love that place. I could spend days there. And if we lived that close we would spend all of our paychecks there. The Boulder store is just not the same . . .
