Not being able to ride stinks!!!

I have not been able to ride in over a week. We finally had some rain come in which I wouldn't dare complain about we need is to bad, but the weather has been off and on. Plus all the responsiblity things that creep up and have to be taken care of. Why do the nice days land on days when I have things I have to do. DH has an awards ceremony today and it is beautiful outside. No wind, a bit chilly, but can deal with that, sunny, just gorgeous, but I wouldn't miss his award.
The rest of this past week has been spent, running my mother and MIL around trying to get things taken care of for them and the other days were rainy. We were going to go on an organized ride tomorrow but DH's 30th high school reunion is tomorrow and they are having a lunch get together, then an evening thing so that pretty much shoots tomorrow. Don't know if we will go to the evening thing, but just in case he decides to, I wouldn't want to make other plans.

Since I have not been able to get any exercise on the bike, I decided to pull my pilates tape out yesterday morning when it was so windy and do it.
OMG, I am sore this morning. I forgot how many muscles are not used on the bike. Which tells me I need to do more than just ride my bike to lose weight and tone up.

Oh, well, I know eventually I will have some days I can ride. The bike is not going anywhere. Guess it will make when I do get to ride that much better.
Harder, but better.

Looove pilates! Good for you to stick with it and find an alternative to riding while waiting out the rain. The soreness will go away just in time for you to get back on the bike and you'll be all the happier! :D
Is the hubby getting an award or just going for the food? :p
My 20th reunion is coming up next year. :eek: My how time flies when your out in the real world. (I try not to look back on those years, rather traumatic at times.) I haven't gone to any previous ones but since I now work with a classmate who is helping to organize it, (student council, cheerleader...) I'm being shamed into going. Maybe I'll go in costume as Frankenfurter! (VERY closed minded community, hence the trauma.)

Not riding is no good - I havent been able to get out much in the last 4 weeks. So, if you missed a week, don't feel bad. Between lack of enthusiasm, changes in weather (lots of rain) getting colder, injured hand, etc., I just can't seem to get myself out there.

I've started doing my yoga and core exercises; and am set to go swimming so I'll get started again! I'm just in one of my off riding periods. Soon, I'll be back in the swing again!

It was the city Service awards that we went to. DH got an award for 25 years of service, along with 6 others. It was a nice lunch and now I won't have to cook supper. LOL Dont' want to eat a big supper on top of eating a good size lunch like that, and then turn around tomorrow for the 30 yr reunion and eat fattening bar -b -q.

Your right Lisa, most of the time, we don't have very bad weather during the winter, just lots of rain usually. Even if we do have winter it usually doesn't hit until Jan. or Feb. and then it will be an Ice day here or there. I can still ride though if it isn't icey or wet cause I can always put clothes on.

It still stinks though when you have to go without for a week or more :eek: . I really feel for those of you that have the snow and cold icey weather all winter long. Of course, sometimes it would be nice to see some snow for a change. I would love to have a white Christmas for a change.

Yes, I know too well how awful it is not to be able to ride. :(

Pilates and Yoga are wonderful. I do both daily.

Oh, you will enjoy the pilates, you just got get over that initial sourness from mucles that are not used to being worked.

I enjoy the pilates, I just wonder how long it takes before you get better at your balance and stuff with it. Plus there are some thing with my weight that I am not able to do yet, and I wonder if it is just me, or if there are just things that overweight chicks cannot do.
I have one part on one of my tapes where you sit on the floor with your knees crossed and you have to sit up straight to do work on you triceps and it is very hard for me to sit up straight with legs crossed like that. I think it is because my weight makes me very unbalanced or something.
I end up having to do it with my legs straight out in front of me.

I haven't tried yoga bikingmomof3, isn't it kind of the same as pilates?
I always thought yoga was a kind of relaxing type exercise, didn't really work on strenght. Am I mistaken?

I so agree. Not being able to ride for long periods of time really is a drag. For a while I couldn't ride when I was pregnant cuz the baby got in the way. When I did ride, I had to be on a stationary bike, which was awful. This lasted at least three months.

I haven't tried pilates, but I am willing to try it out. I use running as my alternative to the bike. For some reason the days that I ride are stronger and better when I run the day before. It is amazing what a difference it makes when you combine activities into your routine.

it's hard , especially when you don't have something else to do. I was able to keep myself happy with hiking when I broke my arm, but when I feel and got some major road rash last week, I was going a bit bonkers.

Yea not being able to ride in NOT fun at all...

only 5 more weeks and hopefuly my cast will be gone but till then im gonna go crazy havin to be calm i think and hold kinda stilll..

Many of the Pilates move have roots in Yoga. Yoga can indeed be ralaxing, but it is very challenging. It strengthens the core muscles and uses your body weight to lengthen muscles and work muscles. I encourage you to give it a try. Patricia Walden has an excellent beginner video. If you think it will not be enough of a workout go straight for any Rodney Yee workouts-he rocks!

I forgot to add, for me, Pilates is the more relaxing of the two. I do Stott Pilates and Windsor Pilates for relaxation and Yoga for strengthing.

My husband cannot either, but he is not overweight, he just is not flexible. Yoga almost kills him. He continues to work at it and he has gotten better, but he simply is not flexible. Fortunatley, I am. 18 years of ballet taught me flexablity. Long story short, adapt the stretches for you. You should not be in pain when you are doing any move. I have seen some very large people do amaxing things in Pilates and Yoga. A lot has to do with flexability and if you are naturally not flexible, it will take time. Hang in there.

I have Yoga for Inflexible People that I do once in a while. It's great because it adapts the program for folks like me, but you need a lot of props like a chair, strap, towels, etc. It can be quite challenging to me to hold some of the poses.
