You know, just some sort of an image. Maybe a pic of your favorite view along your favorite ride. Something that speaks to the glory of the area you live in, or even the true grittiness of the commute you must make to get you where you're going. Maybe it's not pretty at all, but it's city, it's real. What do you all think? If nothing else, this may just be my tricky way of forcing you out on a ride today - ha ha, (or at least lazier than ever me these days) Now get out there and shoot it up!;)
today isn't a day you can see this, but when its clear out (one of those rare days) this is what i see.
the first picture is of Frosty Peak with Baldy Mountian infront of it. if you can find this, you can find home.
the second picture is of the view out of my office window (that makes me want to go ride) that looks across to the Aghileen Pinnacles and Pavlof volcano (which is active).
we have a couple more volcanos around here, but i don't want to be a picture hog.
OMG - chick - hog away!!! I am in "pretend I am in Alaska" heaven. My BF visited Alaska in June 2005 (before we met) and took the most beautiful pics. Once I am in Colorado, I hope to be able to add some pretty pics of my own, but....NJ smoke stacks aren't exactly day dream material.

chick - beautiful pics. My husband and I backpacked and camped our way around a little of Alaska before we had kids. It was fantastic and I love looking back at all our wonderful pics. You are one lucky girl.:)

Can't cycle here, and its definately not Alaska, but its all I got - Clark Hill Lake. Manmade and full of Georgia Red clay. Caught a big bass there, tho - 5.4lbs - and I set it free.
Ohhhhh, what a wonderful spot! My husband and I were out riding a trail two weekends ago, we rode past what looked like a great fishing hole and I was so upset that I didn't have a pole with me. I love to fish, my husband hates it. Fortunately my son loves it too and while he was growing up I took him on most of our fishing trips.Quote:

'Scuse the poor pic....this is part of my favourite ride...along the waterfront in Victoria. The seaside roads, Beach Drive and Dallas Rd wind their way along those bays and points down to the harbour. A breeze usually blows off the water, so it's a great route to cool down on after a long hot ride. Sometimes, it's the only ride I do just because of the scenery.

Here are two from my little square of the world. The first one is at the lake I ride around a lot. The second one is from the countryside where I also ride a lot. It's Oklahoma- flat and barren, but pretty and peaceful to me.
Here's my So Calif scene. Apologies, as it was a foggy, ugly morning when I took these pictures.
The first shot is my home town and starting point (Torrance Beach).
If you look South, you are looking at some hill climbing on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. If you look North, the beach bike path runs about 20 miles to Santa Monica. This path parallels a second bike path on a segment called The Esplanade, which is located right next to the bern (you can kinda see it). The Esplanade was used as the final stage in the Amgen Tour of California. Both the beach bike path and the Esplanade are very crowded on weekends, but during the mornings you can reach a pretty high speed without problems. You go through many different kinds of neighborhoods on the beach bike path, some very urban (like Venice Beach), some suburban (like this one) and some very isolated stretches where there is nothing except you, the sand, and the seagulls.
The second shot is a side view of part of the ascent of the "PV Hill", which will give you an idea of the grade. (This ascent is easier than the east, which is steeper and contain some wicked switchbacks.) There is also hiking and MTBing trails, as you can see.
The third shot is going up and when you reach the top, you are rewarded by lush, rolling hills and well-kept bike lanes. There are plenty of horse paths and runner paths which are kept away from the bikes, which is nice. Cyclists kinda "rule" this area on weekends, so most motorists are pretty good about being courteous. There are plenty of places to stop and admire the view of the Catalina islands (if it weren't so darn foggy) and the sheer vastness of the Pacific Ocean. Definitely a nice place to ride!

Here's some pics from a 24 mile ride near our home today. First country ride on my new bike. First are my BeeLady socks; then some "rollers" which I call hills before i make it over them and I'm feeling whinny, and then hill looking down on our two barns (trees are in way of seeing our small country home).

Thanks. I enjoy riding out here much more than in town. I'd love to start a cycling bed and breakfast out here -- except you fix your own breakfast, do your own laundry and you stay for free! In other words, I'd love to share this place with other cyclists and enjoy some company, but actually having a B & B sounds like real work to me.

These are from the 50-mile loop around the northern half of Lake Washington. The first is looking at Mt. Rainier from a park on Lake Washington, and the second is looking back at Mercer Island over the I-90 Bridge (same bridge that the Seattle Danskin tri people ride across). It's a gorgeous ride.

I definitely live in the wrong part of the country. There is nothing scenic-maybe if i drive to WV? Where I ride there is; concrete, buildings, asphalt, concrete, smog....I need to move.

now if you feel strong, you go up Etzel. A real killer at over 10% with one 17% grade mixed in. I once broke down crying up there, but finished after eating something.

Wow - really some pretty places! Seattle, San Francisco area and I love Zurich. Was in Zurich two years ago - next time I go I'll make sure I have a bike. Will be in San Francisco next October - hope I can go biking there too, but don't think I could keep up with Veronica's group!
I've noticed a lot of rides here seem to include a water feature, as do mine. I often include a stop on the boardwalk to check on the ocean conditions. Here is Saturday's ocean report - taken about 1 mile from my house. I feel very lucky to have this view once in a while. But sometimes it's more like the 2nd pic.

Salsa - I will make it a point to snap a pic of our lovely "fall" foilage tomorrow for your viewing pleasure.
Looking at these pics, I really wanted to visit Veronica cuz that tree pic is amazing; then seeing Switzerland made me realize how much I miss Germany. Then the ocean shots got me itching to go to the beach.......

I am on vacation. Here is todays ride. The first pix was taken on the Coastal Bike Path between my hotel in Monteceito and Santa Barbara (BikePath). The second pix was taken from the Santa Barbara Harbor. The last two were taken at Arroyo Burro Beach, one facing the beach and the other facing the mountains. As you can see it was an overcast day, but I still had a great ride, georgeous scenery. (I can't figure out how to past the pic in the message so I attached them instead).
Wow! you all live in such wonderful places, i'd be itching to get out and ride (even more than normal) if i lived where you all live.
Maybe i'll take some pictures of my "scenic" route, some pigs and a scrapyard! :D

Well, here's my contribution.
A short distance away from where I live in England, there's the Isle of Wight, it's famous for Cowes week (international yachting), infamous pop concerts back in 1968 and 1969.......I was at one of of them. Also, the famous Needles (which is a rock formation).
Anyway, went for a weekend of bike riding a couple of years ago, riding along the top, it was fantastic but scared the cr*p out of me!

I'm not too brave at the downhill stuff, it's good looking back at the photos though.
I guess that is why I enjoy this site, reading about all the rides you guys manage to do.
