Bicycle Lust

I can't afford a new bike right now but that doesn't keep me from window shopping, right? Last week I looked at this creamsicle-y goodness:

... which lots of people seem to think is ugly, and maybe it is, but it's ugly in such a happy way.

Then I was lusting over the Litespeed Bella based on photos online:

... but to my relief I hated the color in person (even though the bike is otherwise gorgeous). It looks like a bridesmaid dress.

Unfortunately, no such luck with last year's Ruby Pro, on closeout in my size, and so much prettier than either the online photos or this year's versions:

This is the object of my bicycle lust... Alas she is WAY out of my reach AND the LBS doesn't have any more even if I could get her....

She's the 2006 Trek Pilot 1.2 WSD and her name is Pele.. She told me she was ready to "Burn up the Road"

The 2007 isn't talking to me quite as well as the Lava Red although, she may have a name if I manage to end up with her... Lady Ice - She'll freeze the competition.

The color has to grow on me yet though as I really LOVE red. I will say that I've at least seen the color in person and it's prettier than the photo shows. It has sort of a pearly undertone to it. It looks like they've changed the wheels and some of the other components this year as well.

My lust has been quite satisfied by my Waterford. Sigh....

I'm lusting after tires and a new pump (my $20 Serfas exploded the first time I used it) and some bike bags.

Object of desire is currently Vittoria Randonneurs with reflective sidewalls in 700x28. Get em Wednesday. Can't find a link to them, but i think several TE'rs have them.

Does bike-accessory lust count as bike lust?

Don't know if this helps but when I went to my favorite LBS they had me test ride the Orbea Dama Race and the Litespeed Bella. They are both great bikes but I got the Orbea. My LBS said they have had trouble with Litespeed. Anyway, ride them both and see which one you like.

I am lusting after a Trek Pilot 5.2 spa wsd. I don't like the color so I want a Project One version. It is expensive but I will be able to use some of my payout for vacation and sick leave when I retire. So last January I bought my first bike, a Trek Hybrid, and this January I plan to order my second bike, the Trek Pilot. I hope my bike lust will then be assuaged. :D

xeney, I love the orbea..we don't have any dealers locally but I would choose her over the lightspeed. I lusted after the yellow and black Fuji Robaix this spring, searched for one in my size, then as luck would have it, put a new roof on the house..priorities stink. So, now to find a shop with a sale and hopefully they have one that fits me. I've always wanted a yellow and black bike, but after seeing the orange-y color of the orbea, i would take her...

I was laughing at myself last week because I realized whenever I see a cyclist, I'm not checking to see if a hot guy is riding it - but rather checking to see how hot the bike is!! :p

I loooove the creamsicle orbea. The color is just so fun!

I currently have a Red specialized Allez and am quite happy with it. I am lusting after a new sexy wheel set. But otherwise, I love it. I absolutely adore the Ruby Comp Pro but the women specific bikes do not fit me because I'm so long.

I am dreaming of adding the Specialized Cross Roads into the family. Yes I even like the brown one. http://www.specialized.com/bc/SBCBkM...d=07Crossroads

I am looking for a new bike and hope to get enough money to buy a custom build Stevens SCF2. The dutch womens trade team Buitenpoort-Flexpoint (and thus also Amber Neben) have them this year without any complaints so I guess it must be good stuff.

Unfortunaltely they do not have an US dealer.

You guys all have excellent taste. these are all beautiful, lovely bikes.
I want an italian steel bike with campy components that fits a smaller woman.
And it has to have enough room for FENDERS...!!
Realizing that what I want is unattainable, I can't even start dreaming about colors. I like the creamsicle.. I even like that silver and white Terry!

Oh, those aren't bikes I am seriously considering. I am thinking that at this point I need to buy something very low-end, if I can find something that fits me, and see if I ride more with a bike that fits. Then I can think about upgrading later.

Or I might go mid-range and buy the Orbea Dama Mitis, which is just as pretty in the orange, and the bike shop offered me a great deal and said that if I hated the 105 they could swap my Veloce group over. I'm just trying to decide if I can afford a new bike at all. This is the fantasy thread, not the things I am really considering! (Or I would have test ridden that Ruby yesterday.)

Take the Shimano from the new bike, put it on the old frame, that makes a complete bike. Can you sell it?

Or would it be cheaper just to order a bare frame and move your components over, then sell the old frame (bare)?

When I was considering a Soma build-up, one of the shop guys told me it would be cheaper to buy an entire bike and then swap all the components to the Soma frame rather than buying the components seperately. That was an eye-opener! I checked prices, and for what I wanted to do he was right!

A Bianchi Veloce without Veloce components is probably kind of silly, but I could sell the frame.

It's all moot, though, because my husband wants the Veloce. It fits him fine since we swapped out the seatpost for me -- it's so far back now (too far for me to reach the handlebars) that he didn't even need a longer stem. He already has a road bike that he doesn't want to get rid of, so I don't know what he plans to do with the Bianchi, but he wants to keep it. He may ride a century on it in two weeks.

What is a fair price to charge one's husband for a three-year-old bike that he has maintained for free for the whole time you've owned it? I'm thinking four or five grand? ;)

That's what I am doing also, it really is cheaper. It was one of the reasons I started looking for manufactures which had a custom build program. You still get (some)what you want for cheap price and then afterwards to get around the table with the bike shop guy and start upgrading or changing the bike. He keeps the new (unused) stuff from the bike (the parts which you didn't like) and puts on the stuff that you do want want for a small (or even none) extra price.

In my example I don't like the 'standard program' Mavic Ksyrium Elite wheels, they have to much failures. But I could try to get the bike shop so far to swap them for Easton Circuits which are priced almost the same but are much more reliable.

Interbike and the Women's Bike

Just got back from Interbike so I'm on bike looking, parts looking overload, etc
BUT I always keep my eye out for lady friendly bicycle companies, women specific bikes, etc.

I fell in love with this powder blue wonder A 595 Elle Look carbon fiber frame. What a beut!

If I already didn't have a pink Giant TCR from last year that I absolutely love, boy would I be drueling big time.

The Orbea's are sweet! I've been overly exposed to them the last couple months as my DH is in the market for one. The '07's are arriving in our LBS this week.

I hope they look as good in person.

I am actually a teeny tiny bit disappointed that we made my bike fit me, because my friend at the bike shop offered me a sweet deal on the '06 Dama Mitis, and it's not that expensive a bike, particularly with the discount. But we have a major vacation planned in January and I haven't bought the plane tickets yet, my husband is on a new job contract that might not work out, and my job is becoming increasingly unbearable. Not the time to buy a bike. I bought a new helmet instead, and I have given myself advance permission to buy whatever bike I want -- a custom frame, diamond-studded, whatever fancy metal is trendy by then -- for my fortieth birthday, which is only two and half years away.

Custom steel.....

I'd probably build it up with Campy Chorus and would seriously consider getting hand-built wheels. But for now, my Bianchi ED makes for excellent company!

Well, although I have been infatuated with de Rosa last year and this year... hear is what I lust after now...

I have a Giant TCR Aero 2 which I race both road races and TTs on. I would love to make her my TT specific bike... and this, therefore is what I lust after now... she would be a perfect for road racing...

This "pretty-in-blue" is on my wall paper at work...

I did test ride the Litespeed Bella as well when I was shopping last winter and ended up really hating the componentry and general feel of riding the bike. The Orbea was love at first ride.

Of course, new this year Orbea has come out with something even sexier...

But like Trekhawk, I would like to head to Chattanooga and have Lynskey build me a custom bike. There only a couple of hundered miles away!

First of all, there is NOTHING ugly about that bike! It's fabulous!

Of course I have an orange Element so I'm notl likely to be happy with pale, retiring colors. I saw on HGTV once that if you want to know which colors are on the horizon for decorating and home fashions, watch the auto colors -- they are the first to implement the hot new colors (by several years).

So I think we can anticipate a lot of oranges and maybe yellows in the next few years, from the new models I'm seeing on the road. Think it will cheer us all up? And think bikes follow the auto trends?

well, i found some bikes to lust after. Two different brands, Mondonico
and Torelli!
There's a bike shop south of me (Spoke & Sprocket, near Tacoma) that seems to specialize in steel road bikes. They have a lot of ITALIAN Stuff. yes, I'm italian too.
They also think it's important to have room for fenders.

No photo yet, but it's certainly distracted me from what I should be doing today, that qualifies as bike lust

I agree about orange becoming popular. Love the orange Elements too (my stepmother has one -- I have the 2004 green). Just bought a lovely new, ultra-light women's sleeping bag today at REI: Sierra Designs Glow. It is a new product from this company and is gray and - yep - orange! I'd been coveting it, so when I saw it had just gone on sale, I let my REI Visa do the talking!

I'm kinda liking orange lately....I guess I got tired of all the pink stuff. And of course, blue is always nice. :D

Emily, who thankfully is pretty immune to bike lust right now, since I satisfied mine with a used Titus Racer-X this summer.....

Oh ... I wish they'd had that when I bought my new bag last month! I got the Marmot Angel Fire, which is not only heavier, but is that boring color a friend of mine calls "outdoorsy girl blue." Half the stuff I own is that color, and it is so boring.

$35 is not bad for the large! That looks like a great bag. I love the clip-on to the saddle part. I really hate trying to "tie" a bag under the saddle with velcro.

I just saw this bike on their website. Sexy is a good word!! DH must not have seen them yet, he loves the Orbeas and is always showing me the new ones. They are so beautiful.

This bike is not over-the-top expensive, but I won't be able to spend this much on my next bike. So it is a lust for me!
