Hi! I am brand spankin' new here! I wanted to share my New Bike Story because I am bursting with excitement over my new bike. I have always loved biking, but I have never had anything nicer than a dept store Schwinn. My husband recently used mine (it has the hitch to pull the bike trailer) and said, "Geez, this bike has seen better days. I'd sure get you a new bike if you'd like one." Well! What woman says no to that?
I decided to look at a higher end bike since I really do get almost daily use out of my bike and felt I could justify it. I hit the LBS, who decided I should have the Trek Navigator 100. I left thinking there had to be more to fine bikes that that. Out of curiosity, I perused Craigslist instead and happened across a new listing for a 2010 Trek 7.6 FX. Turns out the bike was in excellent condition and was being sold because the owner upgraded to a road bike. Owner and I are same height and similar build, so the bike was my size! Came with computer, water bottle mount and Bontrager rear rack and bag...she sold it to me for only $400!!! I took it to LBS (looking rather sheepish since two days before they thought I would buy their Navigator) and asked for a tune-up. Bike didn't even NEED a tune-up! What a steal! I had no idea what a deal it was at the time, because the listing was at the immediate start of my search. Talk about beginner's luck.
Seller and I are both nurses and discovered we have lots in common. I have kept an email relationship where we chat and I show her pics of 'our' bike. I have since gotten the Trek trail-a-bike hooked to it so my 3 yr old can take long rides with me and the 6 year old. She knows she could have sold it for much more, but she really wanted someone to use it and love it. So, she's happy it's mine!
I love learning from all you ladies and thank you in advance for what you are teaching me! I also love your exceptional wit and grammatical expertise. Rare things these days, those.
