It happens out here too - I'm also from Pittsburgh (and the hubby is from Maine) and we still laugh when panic sets in here over snow, but we do realize the city is not equipped to handle it so it gets much worse, faster. (and no I don't think it matters that Seattle is hilly.... Pgh is just as hilly if not more... the biggest difference is that they *salt*, and to tell the truth for the amount of snow we get I'd just as soon not see salt on our roads... its really damaging to everything) People aren't equipped to handle it either. No one has snow tires - a lot of people don't even know how to walk on ice... (or that they are the ones required to shovel their sidewalks... I head a lot of belly aching about the city not keeping sidewalks clear.. uhhhhh that's *your* responsibility mr/ms property owner)

People who transplant from northern areas flip out in Austin when the city shuts down for ice. We don't even get ice every winter, why would natives know how to drive on it and why would the city be equipped to ice all our high overpasses? My friend visited from CT and was floored at our "Flyover" overpasses because with her winter weather they would be impractical and deadly.

It is raining this morning. Beautiful, glorious rain!! We only need about 15" to get us back to even on this drought but what a lovely sound this morning. Wish someone would tell the dogs it is a good thing. :p

I had to have this procedure performed at a surgery center because they were concerned about bleeding/clotting time.
I had to put on this gown that had "ports" in it. they looked like the hole in the top of a vacuum cleaner bag.
Well, they put a hose in that port and cranked up heated air. I was poofing up like the Stay-Puft Marshmallow man

I asked if they could put it on reverse so I could get shrink wrapped but no.
I also asked one of the nurses to give my phone number to the anesthesiologist but I doubt that will work out either.

No solid foods for three days I'm on the ice cream diet.
So I got that going for me :p

How come I can't make biscuits??? Just some baking powder biscuits for a quick meal....I followed the directions PRECISELY and rolled them out, but they didn't rise. They came out like little disks. So I made another batch, didn't roll them, just balled them up, and they still didn't rise. They came out looking like they went in. Taste fine, look terrible.

I hope you heal fast Zen. When you described the gown it reminded me of the "hair dryer" my Mom used to pu on my head. It was this cover like thing..like a hat with a tube. Once it was on my head she would turn it on and it would puff out with hot air. I will see if I can find a pic.

Okay, I think I finally figured it out. Cold shortening. I didn't use ice cold shortening, which I know to use for pie crusts, but I didn't know about biscuits. I'll try that next time.

This sounds like a particularly bizarre party you might have gone to this weekend (not sure what this observation says about me, but I digress).

Warm chocolate pudding is also good after dental surgery--my personal favorite.
