We are having steamed Penn Cove (local) clams, fresh Dungeness crab, a green salad, bread, and a couple of Marie Callendar pies. And some Dutch cookies from my grandma's recipe, and probably some caraway scones. This is the first time I've wanted to bake in quite a while.
I think there will be 10 of us - Mom, Dad, Brother & Sis-in-law, Sister, Niece, Niece's fiancé, Nephew, Nephew's girl friend, and me.
They'll all come to the house, I'm the "chef" of the family. I always accuse my mother of kidnapping me from my true father Jacques Pepin.:)
That sounds nice. I do not cook much, although I can. The second stint through graduate school, for inexplicable reasons, made me stop cooking. I think it was the "abandon all unnecessary activity" approach to graduate student life. And somehow I never restarted, even though I've been done with grad school cycle number two since, uh...1995.
I stopped for awhile too, but then realized my parents were living on frozen dinners. :eek: So, I've started fixing dinner 4-5 times a week. eatingwell.com and cookinglight.com have become regular sites for me.
being particular keeps me cooking. I can control exactly what we eat, including portion size. It's just part of what i do.
(and Raleighdon does too, which helps) Unfortunately, we're tending to eat out more which means more $$, more waste, and less really good food, even though we don't eat at fast food joints EVER
I cook good meals when SKnot and/or Trek are here, but just do beans and rice type stuff when I'm alone.
Guess I'm one of those "Eat to Live" type folks, rather than one of the "Live to Eat" kind.
Going to my mom's for Christmas eve and Christmas day.

Well, it's a balmy 2c here, which is just as well as I set fire to the last of my furniture yesterday in a vain attempt to stay warm. Still no heating engineer. He's due 'between 12 and 6' this afternoon. If you see him, tell him to get a move on. To add to my troubles I discovered when I lept joyfully into the shower this morning that I have no hot water either. Imagine my delight!
On top of all this I have managed to incubate a nice cold so have a sore throat and endlessly running nose to add to my list of gratitudes.
Grump, grump, grump.:mad: :mad: :mad:
Thanks goodness for porridge - my ancestors knew what they were doing when they designed the Scottish diet. I'll be having a Scotch pie for lunch.

Bruno, I really feel for you. I was without heat for 36 hours (no heaters either) and discovered that if i didn't stay on my feet I could NOT stay warm. You have every right to complain. I'm surprised you aren't staying in a hotel or something!
(at least your computer works) :p
I was recently without heat for 52 hours.
I had four layers top and bottom.
I entertained myself at night with crosswords by kerosene lamp and battery powered NPR.
I slept between two dogs, all of us under the covers.
Them dogs is warm.
At one point I thought the heat had come back on.
