No! I haven't even gone to the basement yet! I'm stuck in the vortex that is Team Estrogen Women's Cycling Discussion Forums!Quote:

I can bake 8 cookies at a time. Eight. That's it. I even had to find an extra small cookie sheet! When I buy a place and have a real oven again, it will be the height of luxury. :p
Now I'm going to the basement. Bye.
EEERRRRR. I can get into any other site, just not Terry. Can't get to it through google. Can't get to it through the cache. Can't get to it on BF's computer, or with IE or Firefox...
Rebooted the DSL, and now I can get in. Thanks for telling me!
Lise, I love my toaster oven! I miss my old one, though. It never got hot to touch. The new one, even though it says it doesn't, still does, so I have to move the toaster off the top before using it. I love it for baking a small batch of those refrigerator cookies...
Got my saddle! Probably on sale because it is 2005. Less padding.
I'm escaping the vortex right now and going outside. I already have my leftover pork tenderloin and oven-roasted potatoes out there, with a gloass of a previously untasted Alice White Chardonnay, which smells very fruity, and my wine log, and my Palm with my wine software, and my 23 Days in July book, and my pen, and a Sierra Trading Post catalog, and some other catalog. Now all I need is the torts and Dill, who is already packaged up to go out. I can hear him hooing for me.
It's 94F, 40% humidity, dewpoint of 66F, sunny, SW wind at 13mph.
That's great, Nanci!
Lise, I have a mental list of things I want in my next place, too. This time it's more storage and a kitchen I can actually move around in, plus an oven that isn't 75 degrees too hot (I burned some things before I figured that out.)
My senior year of college, a shower was first on my list. The building I lived in was so old that it had plaster on the walls and not enough water pressure to have showers! I thought at first it would be relaxing, but it was the worst. When there was no hot water, a cold bath was pure torture. I was the RA for that building, so it wasn't like I could move. The things I did for free rent...
*drools at the thought of the white Chardonnay* Nanci, because you seem so experienced with wines- have you tried petit verdot? It's pretty interesting... Sakes too. Esp. Ginjo Junmai.
CWR... are you implying something? *squirrels away bike receipts to a place that may or may not be found and waits for DPITA to come home* :D

(Ibex should give me comission, or at least free goodies, for all the times I mention them. ;) )
Edit: Mimitabby has these, too. And Quillfred wants a pair. Join us... resistance is futile.... join us.....
I don't believe I've had Petit Verdot- although I may have had it in a blend. But tomorrow I am having a Pinot Meuniere! It will probably suck...
As does the Alice White 2005 Chard- all I can taste is oak- no fruit at all. I tried it cold and warmer- sucks at both temps. Too bad- it smelled so good!
Zero acid, too.
gruh. I hate it when they oak it too much. dpita's ex was a home brewer, made meads and wines of all sorts. Oaked the h*ll out of pretty much everything and as I like it light 'n fruity (NO PUNS, Knotted or CWR!) it totally ruined them for me.Quote:

Kitsune, do you like Pinot Gris? That is currently my favorite white. VERY different from Pinot Grigio. I also like Gewurtzraminer and Viognier and Gruner Veltliner a lot. And some Sauvignon Blanc. And of course Riesling. Oh, and Chenin Blanc! I hadn't liked Chardonnay until recently, because of the oak, and the Alice White typifies what I hadn't liked perfectly...
I LOVE Gwurtz. I'll have to look up the Gremlin Gwurtz... it's made locally, I think... very nice art, very spicy, fruity taste. I'm alright with Pinot Gris- it depends on the brand and the year, though... I'm a riesling freak, though. =DQuote:

I alternate, white one night, red the next. Sometimes a dessert wine on a special occasion. Although Bonny Doon makes an AWESOME Viognier dessert wine in a 500ml bottle that I can NOT resist. OMG!!! I like the fortified wines, too. I have only drank Florida native ports (750ml bottle for $8!!) but am hoarding a Quinta do Noval "real" port. For reds I love Shiraz/Syrah, Petite Sirah, sometimes Zinfandel. Sometimes Pinot Noir. Less often Merlot. Almost never Cabernet Sauvignon. Like Cabernet Franc and Lemberger and Malbec. Only tried one Rioja, didn't impress me. I am sitting on a Barolo, but haven't ever tried it. I like red blends a lot, too, and some white blends, particularly Rhones.
I'm going to do the Pinot Meuniere tonight, since the Chard sucked...
Ok, that sucked so much I poured it out!!
Liiiissseeee - are you back yet???
We're getting ready to eat dinner. Tonight we're having a one-dish meal. It's shrimp (seasoned with Old Bay of course), zuchinni, squash, stewed tomatoes, and corn - over rice. Chicken works well in this, too. It's totally easy and yummy.
Mr. Fish is waiting for me - he's running through the XM radio stations on Direct TV. FishJr seems to do interpretive dance to any kind of music. She's currently dancing to Queen (We Will Rock You). Yes, this is entertainment in our house :)

I'm back! Had to get dinner in the oven. I'm making something super easy, too. Chicken with green enchilada sauce, baked. I was going to make rice, but then thought--hey I love corn tortillas, I have corn tortillas, therefore: no rice, no extra pot to wash! We need a "therefore" symbol on the computer. You know, the three dots in a triangle.
So. The saddle. I like it. I'm reserving judgement a bit until I've ridden more. Also, I was so excited to get out on it that I forgot to take off my undies and put on Chamois butt'r before I pulled on my bike shorts! :o I'm riding, thinking, oh, crud. That feels like seams. It is seams. It's my undies. Shoot!
The saddle is firm. If it agrees with my sit bones, I will be very happy. I like the narrow nose. I did not feel any pain under my pubic bone. I hated the Serfas tri saddle because it made my pubic bone hurt so much. I took the allen wrench with me, and stopped a couple of times to move the seat back, then forward, tried it out for a couple of miles each way. I like it all the way back. That makes sense, as I'm pretty long legged. When I got home, I tilted it down a smidge, and will ride it that way next time. Rode 13 miles this evening. If it's a quiet night on call, I'll ride some more tomorrow. Without undies.
Nanci, you know I'm not supposed to drink when I read "that sucked so much I poured it out", and I thought, "you wasted alcohol?!@!"
What's Pinot Gris on the sweetness meter?
It just tasted weird. The cork looked good. It was a 2002- I think the amount of "brownness" it had was probably normal. It didn't taste _bad_, just icky. it smelled vaguely of fig, and I oculdn't relaly name what it tasted like. it was _almost_ fizzy.
Oh well. Two strikes, I'm out. Strangely, that's the second of three bottles from the same shop which was bad. The other had something major wrong with it. I have left, from there, one bottle of 2000 Gewurtz from Germany. It all came from a small shop in Blue Ridge, Georgia. The other bad wine was a German Pinot Noir Rose. Totally bad. Actually, I had a Martin and Weyrich Muscat from California, from the same seller. It was ok, as in not bad, but not something I would buy again. But my two bottles of Dahlonega gold were wonderful...
I wish I had room for a proper wine cellar.
Lise, I hated doing it- but- it was so bad...I only poured out the glass- the bottle will get to breathe tomorrow night and get another chance.
Cripes, I _still_ feel my lungs lunging out of my chest in longing when I see someone light up a cig on TV- and I've quit for maybe 15 years. It totally disgusts me, but the addiction is there waiting for the slightest weakness.
Do you store them sideways to keep the cork wet? It tends to prevent shrinkage and still maintain the wine's ability to breathe... Oh, and use a little shot of C02 to blast out any oxygen-rich air that gets in the bottle before corking it... (unless you do all this already.) :D
Pinot Gris is about 21-24 brix. About 13-14% alcohol.
Lise, do you cook rice a lot? One of my best kitchen purchases ever was a rice cooker. Absolutely perfect every time.
Yeah, you know, these guys I went out with this spring/summer, some of them really questioned me about why I don't drink *at all*. Like maybe I just over-reacted when I got sober 22 years ago. I wanted to ask them, "Really? You want to sign on for that little experiment? I drink 'socially' so you won't be uncomfortable on our date? How much insurance do you have?" Take my word for it. It's for the best, me not drinking! Hmm, let's see, I'm also allergic to certain antibiotics. Or shall I take some tonight and just see what happens?Quote:

I do cook brown rice a fair amount. I love the taste of white basmati rice, but I believe its nutritional value is about...nil. How's the rice cooker for ease of cleaning?Quote:

Nanci, how does it work on brown rice?
It has a little aluminum pot, non-stick? that lifts out and is simple to clean. The rice gets into a little crust thing on the pot that flakes right off.
Have you ever had brown rice with French's Freeze Dried Onion Rings crumbled into is??? OMG- it's _so_ good.
Oh, now that sounds delish. If I can manage to not eat all the onion rings right out of the can! OK, I'll pick up a little rice cooker. I like the "flakes right off" and "throw in the dishwasher" parts. I don't really like that instant rice in bags, and I hate scrubbing out the pan when I cook rice. I really do like corn tortillas, but sometimes, you want rice! Thanks for the tips.Quote:

I got the most pressure from my own family... They all thought I was just being anti-social. (In actual truth I avoided it because it encouraged my ex to drink and that was not a good thing.) And they were all so happy when I started drinking again after I was separated... People are weird.
a rice cooker is the best kitchen investment we ever made. it is so easy to clean, the rice is always perfect and it can keep rice hot for hours. this is great when dd wants rice for lunch and dh and I are planning stirfry for dinner.
brown rice works will in the cooker as well. yes, it takes longer, and you have to play around a few times to get the rice to water ratio perfect, but, you can definitely do brown rice.
Lise "I want to find a guy who's fit, smart, spiritual, and couldn't care less that I don't drink. Oh, yeah, and really digs me. (Just in case the universe forgot what I'm requesting :p )"
Yes, just in case the universe needs reminding I wanna find his sister.
Also it seems I need to be more specific to the universe, she should be single. Not like the gal who asked me out recently and (I think I'm safe here, she doesn't bike and never will) says "Oh, I should tell you my GF of 4 years? I thought we were breaking up but now she wants to get back together and I'd just like to have someone neutral to talk about this with"
First off darling that's called a therapist, our time is up now, you'll get my bill.
Secondly it's called "matchdotcom" not "ijustwannabefriendsdotcom", although it can be "iwannabefriendsfirstbeforeanyonebooksauhauldotcom" but .... sheeshkabob.
Well I worked my a$$ off all day and the wall is almost finished. I am bagged, but we're going out to the little restaurant down the road for a late appie supper and to listen to a live blues/jazz guitarist. H'es supposed to be really good. Hope I can stay awake.
Lise - here's a picture you can probably appreciate. My cat "Allie" in her favourite sleeping place...

Trek: HA! Tell me about it! I've got an open mind if said guy's sister is more up my alley...:p
kelowna: Yep, that would be Isaac, if I didn't have a flat screen monitor! I have a great picture somewhere of him conked out on my desk with my master's thesis up on the computer screen. There's a bag of pretzels and can of Diet Coke on the desk. Sums up my grad school experience. Oh, and driving up to Madison, Wisconsin and spending a gazillion dollars on the phone with this ...well, we'll just say ex. This was before anybody much used email. Imagine how much I could have saved. Imagine what I could've learned in grad school if I weren't obsessing about that "relationship" nonsense!
Dinner's finally done. Did you know that chicken takes longer to bake when it's half-frozen going into the oven? What's that about?
kelownagirl, Allie uses a Mac! smart cat.
Similar to my frozen pizzalast night no doubt? Dark crust, cold center...Quote:

That's my old imac - I think it had the first version of OS10 and OS9 on it. I have a cheapo eMac right now but it serves its purpose. Would love a flat screen but .... sigh... I'd rather buy bike stuff. :D
kelownagirl "Is there any other computer?"
nope :D everything else is just a toy. I have a G4, it's almost 10 years old, running OS 10.2 and purrs like a kitten. It works fine, running DSL sure I'd like a flat screen too but I need to revamp the kitchen and there's bike stuff....
and that would have to be OS jaguar/panther/tiger/kitty cat.
Lise if she has a brother I'll let you know. You may have the fit-smart-spiritual-couldn't-care-less-that-you-don't-drink-and-really-dig-women guys. Not that there's anything wrong with them that is, some of my best friends are guys :D
