Oh, yeah, that sweet corn is the best. Friends and I used to go out in the field and pick our own. Yummy! :)

Here are some photos from my trip to the homeland (Crested Butte). Trail 401 is a must-do, and offers something different every month in the progression from spring flowers to summer corn lily and cow parsnip 4 feet high slapping your legs to amazing autumn aspen leaves. I was up there in late July.
Whew, I made it!

View at the top, turned slightly left from the last pic. The faint trail in the center is the old way up. The trail to the right is the new, improved re-route.

Turn a little more to the left and it's time to drop in!

Damn, this is fun :D!!

Still descending :D :D !! Mt. Crested Butte is the prominent lacolith on the right. See the valley floor? That's where I came from, and where I'm headed  :D !

Fixed Gear Gal,
Those are GORGEOUS pictures!!!
But hey, isn't that a "No Bicycles" trail sign I see your bike leaning against??
Beyond that sign is Forest Service Wilderness, the other direction is plain ol' Forest Service, without any "mechanized transport" restriction. Actually, this was one of the key trails/areas used to justify denying bikes access to Wilderness when they rewrote the law. Funny they'll let 1000 lb. horses on the trail, tho  .
I guess they figure that horses will fertilize the wildflowers. LOL
Seriously though- glad to be reassured about you following the rules! ;) I think they look at foot or hoof prints as being less disturbing to the ground than rolling tires- when I think of it that way it makes more sense.
No, we were just running around down there- took that road and then a little paved path just to the (north?) of there. We were marathon training while vacationing, so just trying to get in 10 miles (but NOT trying to kill ourselves running up the mtn). We did, however, stay at the campground at the top of Swan Mtn.
Well, if you can avoid getting run over on Swan Mountain, there are paved trails everywhere else. Rumor has it that they are in the process of putting in a paved trail over the mountain, too. I know where the campground is, though I have never stayed there.
Haven't posted in a while, but here's a photo from the Napa century this past August '06. Happy holiday's all!
here is a pan of my fav! Big sur California. Highway 1!
