Thread Drift

Did you guys ever see the movie "25th Hour" with Edward Norton? I have it, watched it a couple years ago, but didn't remember anything beyond it was REALLY good, and the general premise- he's a guy going to jail for seven years for drugs, and it's his last 24 hours to say goodbye/tie up loose ends, with some flashbacks to how he came to be in that position. Man, I forgot the ending, sort of- I was bawling my eyes out! Great film if you haven't seen it. It's got Phillip Seymor Hoffman in it, too- I always like him.

Lise - I almost forgot to tell you...there were 2 fat dachshunds at the thing I went to in Knoxville. They were the neighbor's dogs. I thought of you immediately! There were amazingly tolerant of the kids. Ben likes to give little dogs big hugs. But geez they were chubby.

"Fat dacshund" is usually redundant!

True enough. These were twice as big as the fit and trim one in Lise's avatar.

"Fat dachshund" is just sad. Their backs can't handle the strain of all the weight. Schatzi got a bit pudgy at the end of her life, but my mom never let her get fat. Mom taught us not to overfeed the pups, that it was mean to them in the long run. Schatzi did go through a period of "prison breaks", in which she'd dig out under the fence in the back yard and roam the neighborhood, eating garbage! Mom had to replant the fence deep enough that those tough little legs couldn't tunnel to freedom! :p

PS, Nanci, I loved "25th hour".

Awwwwwwww - so cute! They weren't so fat they couldn't run, but were a bit on the pudgy side. Ben gave them some exercise ;)

Really, I don't know _why_ we should feel sympathetic for the drug dealer character, except he seems like a decent guy, other than THAT. But he's _not_ reformed, he just got caught because he didn't quit soon enough and got greedy- planning to get a little more for retirement. He doesn't have any other skills or education, so what's he going to do after he gets out of prison anyway?

Weird. But I still love that movie.

I know. I just felt like--what do we (as a society) gain by putting this guy in prison? What a waste of our money. Plus...I like Edward Norton. What can you do? :rolleyes:

Nanci, it's cool and rainy up here, and it looks like rainy all week. I'm thinking of you down in the Sunshine State, and wishing I could sent some rain your way. L.

I'm finding it difficult to focus today. I'm still waiting to hear about an interview. Things can move slowly in the gov't. Big surprise, eh? Realistically, I won't hear anything until mid-July or so. However - anticipation drives me crazy!!!

I riding tomorrow morning. I hope to have more confidence this time. When traffic starts to pick up, I've been heading back to the house.

We had a good rain yesterday! Now it's in the forecast all week- but just scattered thunderstorms, 40% chance. I wish we'd get back into the afternoon rain cycle.

why does it always rain on days that I have time to get the new bike out? what is the cosmos tryng to tell me?

Heh, we are in our typical summer pattern now, high pressure over the area giving us dry and hot conditions. Pushing one hundred today, but I am wishing autumn was here! REI has a clearence sale going on and I picked up a fleece jacket yesterday. I also got Crank Brothers Egg Beaters at my LBS for my commuter! Woo-hoo! I love those pedals!

We've cooled off a bit here. It's only supposed to hit 86 as the high all week and low 60's for the lows. VERY unusual for us this time of year.

Tater - I carpool/work with a guy from Idaho.

I'm going to a food tasting party tonight :D It's from a restaurant near where I work (The Crown) and their line of food products (Taste of Gourmet). It's a gem here in the Delta. They've been featured on Bobby Flay's show and one of the other shows on Food Network (can't remember the name - Sandra Pinkney hosts it). The restaurant has a dessert table that is all you can eat and is included with your meal. My kind of place :) Should be fun. Maybe they'll have good wine, too. Just maybe ...
