And here I'd promised myself not to buy any new cycling gear in January....
But I needed the long tights. Just ordered 'em. Thanks for the heads up. All they have left are L and XL, if anybody else is interested.

MORE BRIGHT COLORS!
Of course I love purples, burnt oranges, golds/yellows. But we definitely need color!
Does anyone have the IceBreaker Tech T-shirt? You can see it here: http://www.icebreaker.com/site/icebr...90_tech_t.html
I'm wondering what the sizing or rather the fit is like? Are they pretty snug and fitted? Going by the info on their website I would be a Small but I'm usually more of a medium so I'm a bit worried about ordering the small.
Thanks!
I have an Icebreaker Tech Top zip-t neck. http://www.icebreaker.com/site/icebr...mb_value=Black It's a large, which is what I wear in just about every brand including Ibex (my gold standard). The tech top is about as fitted on me as on the model in the picture, maybe slightly looser.
If I were to order any other Icebreaker top, I'd feel pretty safe ordering a large again.
BTW, I love my Tech Top.
Thanks, that info is very helpful. I think I'll probably go for the Medium rather than the Small. I have an Ibex tshirt that I like the size of and it's a Medium too.
Oldest woolies in your closet?
I just realized that I'm wearing 23 year old wool tights! I bought them in 1984 at Marks and Spencer in Edinburgh.
They make peachy long underwear, but they do itch a good bit at first.
I think my next oldest wooly is my fair-isle sweater, which is probably from the late 80's. After that my Swanni from 1991.
oh, dang.
I just paid my cc down enough that i *could* get this vision of loveliness:
http://www.ibexwear.com/F06/View_Pro...&CategoryLine=
but I neeeeeeed the space on the card to buy airline tickets to see another vision of loveliness!
someone buy my massage table or my diamond ring, quick!
SHAGGE - The jacket has climawool "cirrus" on the front. How does that compare in weight to the "lite" on my el Fitos? Is it a lot heavier? Is the Dash Hybrid as a whole going to be warmer than my Switchback? A little more wind resistant?
How about the fabric on the back of the Dash Hybrid? How does it compare to the Switchback or el Fitos?
I *want* this jacket, especially at $115. But it's got to be a warmer heftier more outer-wear kind of jacket than my Switchback or I just can't justify it.
my oldest woolies are from the 80's but i bought them second hand, so I'm not sure.
I went to Value Village this weekend expecting to find all sort of marvellous things but i was sadly mistaken. THey had UGLY stuff.
Now that the storm has started (gee, what great timing!) I'm gonna walk down to the pawn shop down the street and see what they'd give me for my old diamond engagement/wedding set.
I waaaaaaant another Ibex.... waaaaaaant!
Bummer. Shop won't even give me enough to buy an Ibex.
Guess I'll have to try another shop. Poopy.
Are they the M&S Wool tights with feet? If so I have a couple pairs of those from just a slightly later vintage! I hadn't thought of them in ages and must dig them out tonight.
I've always been a fan of natural fibres but I was completely unaware of clothing brands like Ibex, IceBreaker, Smartwool etc until reading this forum. It's a slippery slope - I bought an Arcteryx merino tshirt and loved it. After reading posts on merino tights I bought Ibex tights (a discontinued style I think - called Rendezvous?) and now an Icebreaker tshirt.
I've got woolies from the 70s. A LS Protogs T-shirt. Stil-long long underwear pants. A wool balaclava. Wool Dachstein mittens. Wool fishnet underwear. Some of the old stuff has moth holes.
My Stil-long underwear is the dark blue men's with fly. The women's only came with stirrups under the feet and in powder blue.
Is anybody familiar with this brand? Prices sure are low:

yeah, I think someone mentioned it a few pages back. Sounded like the quality was less than adequate.
Good!
I'm not tempted, then!
[QUOTE=KnottedYet;159319]Oldest woolies in your closet?
I have a hat re-knitted by my old-hiking-mate Rachel in natural black and white wools that her Auntie spun from the fleecee for a sweater that her (Rachel's) mother knitted in the 1960's
I also have a scarf (cashmere and wool) from Harrods c.1982
My newest is a lovely little almost-edible-it-is-so-sweet hat from my Jan ss.
A beautifully textured (both how it looks and how it feels) combination of st-st and reverse st st done on a circular needle. (See Thank you ss January thread)
Hi Again Knotted Yet,
The Climawool Cirrus material on the front of the Dash Hybrid jacket is similar in weight to the Climawool Lite on your El Fitos, but the Cirrus is more weather (wind and water) resistant. The fabric on the back more like the fabric of the El Fitos (a stretchy knit wool)
I wouldn't describe it as "heftier" than the Switchback, but it is definitely more of a performance piece and I think well worth the investment. Don't forget we are very liberal with our exchange/return policy--take it for a ride and see if it works for you!
Hi my name is Knott! I don't have a lot of wool but I am building up my stash. Got four pairs of cycling socks today. A cashmere sweater for christmas. And some other stuff. Bought my first duofold today.
Oooh, www.rei-outlet.com has a bunch of Ibex on sale 40-50% off, plus a few things have an extra 20% off if you order before midnight.
And there're Ibex Nolita and Cube jackets on sale, too. They sound nice and warm! ($136 or so)
Ah-ha, found it, finally. :) (I have my forum options set to view 40 posts/page so page #'s don't help me much ...)
The good news is, Portland Cyclewear just started using a new type of wool. It's still 100% merino but it's supposed to shrink a lot less.
And the bad news is, they're behind schedule on account of switching to the new wool. So it goes.
If & when I get my jersey, I'll let y'all know if it seems less prone to shrinking than their previous jerseys.
well, for everyone's sake, i hope they have improved. it was a beautiful Jersey, but now it's too tight :D :D :D
Major SCORE!! I went through one of my local thrift stores today and found TWO 100% merino soft black turtlenecks that fit me perfectly, for $10 each!!!! Woo-HOOOO! Even DH was impressed.... :D
hmmmph i'm shopping at the wrong thrift shops.
back to housework...

Today I'm wearing my OR Sequence T, 12% wool, 88% polyester from Steep and Cheap for $12.74. I spent 3.5 hours in the woods in 38-42 degree temps (yes, I wore more than just the T) and it was comfortable. Sweated a bit in my Goretex rain jacket. I stink a little, but won't know until I take it off if the smell is the shirt or me. Probably me.
Hi Deb,
I have a Goretex rain biking jacket too. Paid a LOT for it. It worked well as a windbreaker/rain jacket when I was camping. But the two times I wore it on cool rainy biking rides it made me sweat like mad- I felt I was suffocating in a plastic bag. I much prefer my SheBeest Windpro jacket, which though not waterPROOF is water resistant and certainly cuts the wind. But best of all it breathes and keeps me warm and cuddly though I can still feel some air circulation. It seems to work well in many temp ranges. Very versatile for me, especially with a merino base layer or two under it.
P.S. Knot- it's interesting that the Ibex sale items found under "Special>web specials" are all different items than the sale items found under "Outlet>women's outlet".....??
I would think that 88% polyester content would definitely cause some odor though, especially under the Gortex jacket -if it's anything like my Goretex jacket!
I have had better luck when I wear a 100% merino thin base layer UNDER a polyester top so as to discourage the underarm bacteria that always multiply in polyester environs.
P.S. Knot- it's interesting that the Ibex sale items found under "Specials...web specials" are all DIFFERENT items than the sale items found under "outlet...women's outlet"....??
It was the shirt that smelled. And Goretex was appropriate because it was supposed to rain all day, but stopped about the time we started hiking. Didn't really sweat much because I wasn't hiking fast and I opened the pit zips when I got hot.
I think "Outlet" is older stuff Ibex isn't making any more. Clearance type stuff.
"Specials" seem like they are current items or newly introduced items.
She's been sucked into the vortex. THERE IS NO ESCAPE.

there will be no deviation...
