18 miles on Saturday my longest run to date, fighting a little bit of a cold so tried to take it easy. Speed intervals today, 5 miles tomorrow then 1/2 marathon on Sunday. The following Saturday is 20 miles then we start to taper for the marathon - less than 5 weeks to go.
Ran 5K outside; 55 degrees at 9:15 AM.
I felt pretty good. I have no idea of my pace, except it was very slow; no idea what time I left. I walked .33 mile to warm up and ran the rest of the way until I got back to just past the same spot where I ended the warm up. The only walking I did during the run was when I took a sip of water, maybe 3-5 steps and at the top of the big hill. This run has a lot of downhill and I have to be careful not to tweak anything doing that. I spent the about 5 miles or so near the end of my ride yesterday in the big gear and sometimes that affects my knees or hamstrings, but they are fine.
I'm in a recovery week and only running 2 miles at a time; hardly seems worth the effort ;)
Last night was my first 5K race ever. It was a really fun evening St. Patty's day run. My goal going in was to be a little bit faster than my normal running pace of about 11:20 per mile.
I was super excited when I got my time of 30:49 with 9:55 mile pace! Yay! Not too shabby for a girl that couldn't even run 1/4 mile without searing pain only a few months ago.
I had a lot of fun. I'm so so glad I've put so much effort into figuring out my proper running form.
I've signed up for a 4 mile trail race in a few weeks.
Thanks guys. I was really surprised that i was able to do it that fast. I couldn't take a complete breath the entire race though so I've made an appointment with my family doctor to see if maybe I have exercise induced asthma. I'm sure I could have done even better if I could have taken a full breath!
That is an impressive time. I see that many of you have a race time as opposed to a "regular" training time. What was discouraging about the one race I did was my inability to push through the pain and run any faster than I usually do. I chalked it up to the 95 degree temperature that day, but generally my mantra the whole time is "this sucks, this hurts, I hate this." Not especially conducive to improvement.
I got out with a friend of mine and a friend of hers for a 4-mile run/jog/slog through the park. Fortunately flat, as it was my longest run since the Celtic Solstice 5-miler in December. With folks to talk to and pace with, it made it much easier to run the whole thing (stopped briefly at the turn-around point to shed a layer). It made me happy that I could still do that, however, as it puts me in a better mind-state for my 8K run on April 3rd.
When I got home, I did 10 minutes or so of circuit work (jump rope, lunges, Skier's Edge, chest presses, repeating), then went out and did 4-5 hours of heavy yard work (pruned back the butterfly bushes, and helped DH and a friend cut up and haul a large tree that fell in our backyard last month during a storm. We'll split it eventually for firewood next winter). Needless to say, I'm VERY sore right now and suspect I won't want to move to get out of bed in the morning!
I am thankful I got my long run in yesterday as it was sunny and gorgeous (although chilly) and today it is SNOWING! Yuck.
Got in 11 miles. Managed to keep a nice steady pace. My lower back, right-hip area started to get really stiff around mile 8-9. I did a lot of stretching, icing, and more stretching and icing to try and get things healed up.
3.5 easy miles for me this morning. 10 miles and speed work coming up later this week.
Completed my first 1/2 marathon race yesterday. Goal time was 2hrs and I hit it just about on the nose 2:00.08 (8 seconds over), this weekend is our 20 mile training run for the marathon - then we start to taper. 4 weeks til race day.
