This morning the pool was fairly quiet. I was sharing the wide end lane for a while and then had it all to myself. I swam 2000m and then worked on step 1 (and a tiny bit of step 2) of learning a fast open turn.

KG your doing an excellent job in the pool! GO YOU!
I decided to swim on me own this morning as i know i might not have tons of time this weekend. I was only in the pool for 1hr but did:
600m warm up
300 Finz
300 pull buoy
100 x3 easy, medium, fast
100 kick
I'll attempt to do a swim on sunday where i can work on just kicking and backstroke then go off and do some deep water running.

3000 yds in 52 minutes--not bad at all! Certainly faster than I swim (my sort of "natural" pace is 500 yards in 10 minutes for freestyle, so that would bring me to an hour for that workout assuming I didn't switch up the strokes at all). I haven't done any swimming in a while so I'm sure I'd be slow now.
I like the length swim at noon on Saturdays. There were only 3 of us in the double 'medium' lane. It was nice. I swam for 55 minutes and did another swimplan workout. 1400 metres this time. I felt great.

Kelowna: WOW! I haven't been reading this thread religiously, but it seems you have increased your swimming distance very quickly! I'm so impressed. Great Job!
Thank you everyone. You make me feel good. If it wasn't for you ladies, I wouldn't believe in myself enough to think I could do it at all. Truly. :o
I did the same 1400m swim workout today. Felt pretty good but didn't feel as strong as I felt on Saurday. What? I can't improve every single time I swim??
On the good news front, I've been trying to figure out the best way to get a coach to give me feedback once a month or so. I have a teacher friend at work who's a triathlete and her hubby is a coach so I had thought about seeing if he does coaching on a 'once-in-awhile' basis but I know he's pretty busy with his serious triathlete clients. Suddenly realized that there's no reason why my friend herself couldn't give me a feedback. She's a competitive swimmer and an awesome triathlete (she's qualified for the worlds in the last two years) and although she's not a certified coach, she's certainly qualified enough to give li'l old me some direction. Anyway, I asked her today and she said she'd be happy to come down to the pool and give me pointers once in awhile. Yay!
Swam 1500m today. Similar workout. Felt ok but I'm tired today.
I've been going between speedwork days and distance days. Today I swam 2000m continuous, only the second time I've managed that. Unfortunately, I lost an earplug along the way. :p
Well, I was out of training completely for about 2months due to various issues (school, work, burnt out), but since the end of December I have been gradually adding it all back in and am enjoying it again. This block I have increased my swimming to 2x / week.
Tuesday: swam 1100 with a mixture of 250yards freestyle then drills, repeat.
Thursday: I started using the swim workouts in the Gondolfo book so my workout for the day was:
w/u: 200yards free
main: 8 x 50 yards with 2x 50 swim, 2 x 50 kick, 2 x swim, 2 x kick
12 x 25 drill on odd lengths and freestyle on even lengths
10min continuous freestyle working on form and changing pace
c/d: 200yards switching between breast stroke and back stroke
It feels good to be back doing this again.

I have a hair question. Anyone have blonde highlights? What happens to your colour when you're in the pool so much? I need to get highlights back in my mousy brown hair and now that I'm swimming three times a week, I'm a little worried about turning green like my blondie daughters used to...
What helps me, I don't have blond but some color, is use a purifying shampoo and deep conditioner once a week. I am a HUGE fan of PureOlogy. If your interested in trying some let me know. I can send you some at cost. Otherwise I know Aveda has a good one also.
Always wet your hair with "normal" water and put conditioner in it before you get in the pool. It acts like a barrier from the pool water.
