Web and database developer for a med school. I don't work with patient or research data, only adminstrative data. I can't kill anyone!
In my "spare" time I also bake and garden, both of which I like to do with my 2-year-old son. My husband and I have been renovating our house off and on for 11 years.
Wow, everybody.
I am a lawyer in a small town private practice. Indy I do a fair amount of bankruptcy here.
Hub, I have been to your Ms town! I went to college in Columbus MS.
I am also a cat waitress.
I am a lawyer and cat waitress too.
You know there is a team called the Fighting Okra - Delta State University in Cleveland, MS. I lived there for 5 years.
My job - Molecular Biologist - was on fish, now bees. DNA is DNA as they say. My focus now is detecting genes associated with mite resistance. No grants to write - the joy of being a fed.
At least you weren't a poet...striking fear into hearts of many with our mighty pen.
Yeah. And in high school I was a Lambkin. Nice. Embarassed on both accounts.
an institution that was the site of one of my attempts at Grad School (Southeast Missouri State) changed the name of its athletic Teams about 2 years back (They were the Indians). among the name under consideration was the Fried Okra (im not how serious). They wound being the Redhawks :o i was pulling for the Riverboat Gamblers,. myself;)
To really go OT, some fun HS team names i've run across
Columbia(MO) Hickman Kewpie Dolls
Freeburg (IL) Midgets
Coben (IL) Appleknockers
Cario(GA) syrupmakers not to be confused with the Cario(IL) Pilots
Boiling Spring (PA) Bubblers
Steelton- Highspire(PA) Rollers
Hey.. at least you all know what your mascots are..
What the heck is an Aggie anyway???
Dogs have masters, cats have staff.
However if you're my dog, it appears to be both!
An Aggie is a person who attended A & M uni(tech?) in texas. AggieAmma went there. (Yes, i am paying attention!)
-Coben (IL) Appleknockers- umm oh dear..
C
What is an Aggie? ME!
An Aggie is term for people who attend agricultural schools. The A&M in Texas A&M University stands for Agricultural and Mechanical. I guess it is kind of like a farmer, at A&M we have a yell (kind of like a cheer) called "Farmers Fight".
Not all land grant or A&M schools are Aggies, NM State is a Land Grant School (same as Texas A&M) and they are Aggies too. OK State is a land grant and they are the Cowboys. VT Tech is a land grant and they are Hokies. I could go on if I kept googling. :D
CC- You are paying attention. :)
Hey, Okra is spiny, sticky icky when raw, slimy when boiled & tasty when fried! We do okay for a small state university. Last fall we beat my sister's much larger university (Stephen F. Austin State in Nacogdoches, TX, the lumberjacks- their mascot is Ax-some Jack. Their enrollment is about 12K, ours is 4K).
Look at that face-GRRR
Aggie_Ama, ya.. I'm an Aggie too but I hail from UC Davis. :)
And to Fultzie, My sister at Stephen F. Austin, she teaches Anthropology- to those fighting lumberjacks. :D
I know about those okra... get 'em fried at The Hollywood in Robinsonville, Miss. Remember Marc Cohn singing about that place? It really is great.
Grew up in the Miss Delta, from Memphis down to Arkabutla and eventually Greenville. Still got "kin" in all three places. Escaped to the Wild West of Wyoming and it's hard to imagine going back (heat, mosquitoes, a wee bit of a crazy class system:eek: )
I'm the features editor at a small (but sorta famous in the industry) weekly newspaper. The best part of my job is writing, editing and publishing great features. But I also am the traditional "society editor" writing about whose kids made the honor roll, what those cute lil' cub scouts are up to this week and having to try to console people submitting obituaries.
If I were working in Misssissippi, I'd also be writing about debutante balls.:D
You women all sound brilliant and amazing! My career for the last ten years has been homeschooling my four children. They are ages 16, 14, 10 and 8.
Steph - that's a tougher job than most! You deserve a medal!:)
I'm in Ewing Hall, Family and Consumer Sciences. I'll guess that if you were at DSU, you were across the parking lot in Walters-Caylor.
btw- I had been meaning to zing you that I 'got' the Red Stick, Le Baton Rouge, My Division chair used to teach at LSU (Geaux Tigers). Are you at LSU or a fed?
This is a dream of mine . . . Last year one of the colors availble on the Orbea Orca was acid green--- and one of my work study students was training for the MS 150 ride to Vicksburg. I suggested a team . . .(him and the hard core folks he rode with----Okras on Orcas:D
I'm a fed - work for USDA. When I was in Cleveland, I worked down in Stoneville. I was good friends with the head of the music dept at Delta State and I know some people in the Education dept. Mr. Bee works for LSU and we are big Tigers fans! It too bad you weren't on TE when I was up there. Ah well. I know a good 7-mile route to ride for laps if you're interested. And - good detection of the "Red Stick"!:D
For 27 years I have been a directory assistance operator, and for the last few years I have been going to school, working on my associates degree in accounting. Only 3 classes to go after this semester!
I'm in the College of Education building- name names!!!
Cool--- I'd love to get directions for your route! I live near Bear Pen Park & usually ride in the neighborhood, then down memorial drive to Boyle . . . or over to the campus & make loops around the quad. I think I ven remember why the stick is red- to judge the cayenne peppers to determine if they're ripe, right?
I teach 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade art and A.P. 3-D. I have been teaching 22 years. Its a good job and I get to ride my bike everyday. I also am a mother to a dachshund, a cheeweenie, and a jackaroodle.
It is amazing all the wonderful vocations everyone has!
I am a clerk at JC Penneys.
No not really but I just had to say it.
Following in Twins footsteps I too am an art teacher currently completing my 22 year. I teach 11th and 12th grade drawing, painting, handbuilt and wheel thrown ceramics.

Im a loan originator at my DF's mortgage company!
I am a full time student studying communications and I work full time with United Airlines in outside sales so basically....I have no life :)
I am a photographer with my own business - mostly photos of kids. I ride my bike instead of worrying about where my next job is coming from.
If only I could figure out how to take pictures while riding my bike, life would be complete.
Supportive husband and 2 great boys help a lot too!
I'm a Certified Nutrition Specialist, specializing in science-based nutritional programs for women’s general wellness, weight management, life cycle health, and medical conditions resulting from diet and lifestyle choices.
What an interesting job. That would suit me in my nex-life .
Actually, in my one after that because I am going to be a bra engineer in my nex-life. Or maybe , since I know quite a lot of nutrition in this life and not so much bio-physics I should do that then that...
Well, I quess I fit in with the classic New England tale... I have had many careers HA! I used to coach at the Collegiate level and loved that, managed many retail stores, worked as a carpenter and have been a bike mechanic for the past 15 years... which I absolutely love!! In the offseason, besides doing bike repair, I work at a ski resort and am a custom ski/snowboard boot fitter. And of course, I'm also restoring an older home on the side:):)
Very interesting thread!!
